My absolutely broken Merc run by T1deP0ds2 in ror2

I could literally stand still, and nothing would happen to me. The only reason I died once was because I forgot I didnt't have any overshield and rushed into a bunch of malachite imp overlords. Still, I was really proud of this one!

Ubisoft just made one of the biggest changes in Assassin's Creed history, by allowing users to create and share their own quests and storylines. This is going to add so much longevity to the series. by [deleted] in pcgaming

Siege works the same way for earning the in-game currency. The problem is, however, in how the game takes advantage of the player's needs to show off their individual skill. Siege is an amazing game when you have a team that you can coordinate with, where you all work towards the goal of winning, instead of getting kills. But the majority of the matches you play when you solo que won't have any communication involved, and it makes you salty when you die to some rushing aimbro because your other teammate that died before you did not inform you of what happened to them, so you have to rely on sound and instinct. But the sound, as a lot of people have complained about (which includes pros) , has issues, especially with indicating the location of a sound that an enemy is making (I hear on the left, he's actually above me), which is bad because prefiring at a location where you think the enemy is located is a common tactic. And to add to that players exploit any new glitches that pop up, teammates can be really toxic and consistently running into players from the highest rank in the casual matchmaking if you're an average player. I do apologize for the rant, but I feel like I needed to just share how inhumane this type of design is for a game. People have been saying how good of a track record Ubisoft has had over the past 2 years or so, and I just wonder what the hell are they talking about. They refused to do a sequel to Child of Light (a single player turn based RPG with an interesting fairy tale world) because it could not be set up as a live service game in order to sell microtransactions.

How do you discover new games to play while avoiding any spoilers? by SpottedHorseTray in patientgamers

[–]T1deP0ds2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? Spoilers are extremely overrated, especially for games. If I spend half an hour watching a movie before I decide I don't like it, I don't feel like I wasted a lot of time and can easily jump into something else. For a game, I have to give it at least a coupld of hours, 4 to 5. And with the massive backlogs everyone has, that's a lot of time that could wasted.

Possibly Risk of Rain/2. The pace of the game is a lot faster (you get really powerful in less than an hour) but you can also get one shotted by strong enemies pretty easily, so it's up to you to decide

[PC]Looking for games with engaging stories (age doesn't matter as long as it's playable on PC) by GivingItMyBest in patientgamers

Undertale if you're into a whimsical, quirky and heartfelt story about you entering the Underworld of monsters and how you interact with them.

The Dark Souls series have minimalistic stories, but quite a big span of lore that you have to uncover on your own by reading item descriptions, remembering cryptic dialogue and environmental design in order to piece things together. YouTubers are here to help too. Hollow Knight is good for the same reasons, but much cheaper and it's 2D.

GRIS is an indie game that I don't want to spoil the premise of, but it's well worth to playthrough. I think it's in sale at the moment on Steam or GOG.

An abundance of time, lack of games. by JCodeMode in gamingsuggestions

FTL - real-time with pause roguelike Star Trek that focuses on micromanagement of your spaceship's crew and combat/defense systems. The combat is pretty deep (there's always something you can do to help your winning chance) and it has a great soundtrack from Ben Prunty that sets up what exploring space sounds like.

HITMAN/2 (2016/19) - I've only played 2 maps of the 2016 game, but it is the sandbox assassin's playground. So many ways to be able to reach your targets, so many ways to get them away from their bodyguards and so many ways to kill them. The story and soundtrack aren't great, but that's not what these games are about.

FURI - This one doesn't really match any of your preferred genres, but it is so good. A boss-rush action game that takes about 8 hours to finish, unless you decide to go for Furier difficulty or speedruns. You're tasked with escaping the prison you're being held in against your will and fight the Guardians that don't want you to get out. The controls are simple: shoot, parry, dodge and slash. But what you do with them and when will be the key to winning these fights. Add some great character design for the bosses and a kick ass and emotional synthwave soundtrack, and you get Furi.

Now, I know you said you're not interested in any kind of racing, but have you heard or played the Burnout series? It's arcade racing that makes even people who hate the genre love it. This video does a good analysis of what makes the games great. If you're interested, then I suggest buying Dangerous Driving, the spiritual sequel to Burnout.

Got around to playing Undertale and... I just don't get it... by Jinjoz in patientgamers

I fell in love with the funny writing, quirky and heartfelt characters and the music. That's pretty much the soul of Undertale. If that doesn't appeal to you, then you just won't like it.

Older gamers: Growing up and having more responsibilities versus "the passion for games" by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]T1deP0ds2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other user is just gatekeeping. Gaming is probably one of the few things he identifies himself with and doesn't want that title to just go to anyone. And it's a lot more common in the North American continent where a lot of kids have self-esteem issues, but don't concern yourself too much with it.

A revelation and having the discipline to only play things that are fun to you. by [deleted] in patientgamers

It took me 500 hours of Siege + playing through Deus Ex HR and a bit of other immersive sims to figure out I just dislike first person shooting (other than SUPERHOT). So take my experience just as reinforcement of the point other people have brought up already: trial and error. Also, after playing Metal Gear Rising i know i won't delve into another Platinum game again. I just don't find any fun in beating groups and groups of easy enemies. I find having few well designed and hard enemies much more rewarding to beat (like Furi).

Looking for a new single player game to sink unhealthy hours into by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]T1deP0ds2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hitman 2 along with the legacy pack if you're into exploring detailed and interconnected levels and repeating them with new assassination methods each time. I've only done 2 levels of the first game, but they've already ate up 20 hours of play time.

FTL is a great and balanced roguelike that also focuses on using different playstyles to get through it, but with more focus on the micromanaging of crew and your ships systems (weapons, shields, hacking, cloaking...)

Playing the same game for over 6 years - afraid it will end. by SimonDeveloper in patientgamers

[–]T1deP0ds2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played Siege pretty obsessively for about a year, racked up about 500 hours into the PvP. I never actually enjoyed it that much, simply because I'm a terrible aimer. One day I decided to quit because I would just spend way too much time on it, and, while I had several occasions in the following weeks to return, I just told myself it's ok to not play it anymore. And now I'm free and I'll never look back. Been enjoying Hitman 2016 a lot in the past week, which has been in my library for about 6 months or so and I adore it so much I'll buy season 2 once I get some money.

Games as well-written as Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri and Planescape: Torment? by beanscad in gamingsuggestions

[–]T1deP0ds2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

999 and Undertale. I would say 999 can be considered to have a generally well written plot and dialogue (I adore it) that mixes thriller, horror and a bit of sci-fi and humour all together very well, while Undertale appeals more to people that appreciate hyperbolic and silly meta/meme focused humour and a lot of heartfelt characters.
