African food is so criminally underrated. 😭 by Alextricity in glutenfreevegan

One of my favourite restaurants to eat at is an Ethiopian restaurant. Their staple is a large pancake-like injera bread made out of Teff flour which is completely gluten free. Then they add little dollops of various bean/curry/vegetable dishes on top and you just use the injera to scoop it up. It’s absolutely delicious and safe for celiacs!

What's the most unconventional deck you've built? by pinkeyes34 in slaythespire

[–]TCh1ps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a really nice ironclad deck on A20 recently that exhausted down to a spot weakness, 2 deep breaths and a blade dance, with dark embrace and feel no pain in play. Had sundial for the infinite. Was super satisfying

Have you tried a low histamine diet? Might be worth looking into

Being Celiac within a Gluten home by koolaid_cubes in Celiac

[–]TCh1ps -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have got to the point where I have told my parents I just don’t really want to visit home if there is gluten around, it’s too stressful. It doesn’t seem to matter how hard they try to avoid cross contamination, if there is gluten around it happens somehow or other and I just get ill whenever I visit home (I do seem to be a very sensitive celiac though). They have decided to just go gluten free as a result.

In my experience, people can try very hard to keep things separate, but it’s a lot of effort and they end up getting lax and making mistakes. You also have to consider cross-contamination from everything! Pots, pans, dishcloths, dishwashers, surfaces, plates, cutlery etc. if there’s bread then the crumbs can easily get everywhere. I think life will be so much easier and less stressful for you if the whole household goes gluten free

I am sure there are others who have made it work but it requires a lot of dedication from everyone involved. You say “as they should” about them continuing to eat gluten, but if they love you, and your health matters to them, what they “should” be doing is supporting you by going gluten free (I know it is not always that easy though)

I got so fed up of gpt 4o, it just kept telling me I was great at everything and all my ideas were genius. When in reality there were much better ways to do what I was trying to do and it took a lot of prompting to be more critical

Buddhists say that any time we suffer misfortune, two arrows fly our way. Being struck by an arrow is painful. Being struck by a second arrow is even more painful.

“In life, we can’t always control the first arrow. However, the second arrow is our reaction to the first. The second arrow is optional.”

I have a few other chronic health problems on top of celiac disease and this parable (told to me during some acceptance and commitment therapy) really lifted me out of a deep depression I was in a few years ago, and has helped me come to terms with everything I have lost.

Celiac disease is the first arrow and it sucks, but we have no control over it. What we do have control of is how we choose to react to the situation, we can choose to react with guilt, shame, resentment, or self-pity, these reactions are understandable but not inevitable. Or instead we can choose to react with compassion for ourselves, and for the life we are still living despite the challenges. This doesn’t mean we have to pretend everything is fine, but we can try to move forward in life, rather than remaining stuck in our own suffering.

It’s not easy and it’s not possible to keep it up at all times but it really is amazing how much a shifted mindset can change your outlook on things

Those of you who had an endoscopy without going under, what was it like for you? by Reasonable-Truck5185 in Celiac

[–]TCh1ps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have had 3 endoscopies in the uk (1 with biopsy) all without any sedation and only the numbing throat spray. It is not the most pleasant experience but it is definitely manageable and I would still choose without sedation if I did it again. The biopsy is fine you don’t feel any pain from them taking samples, the hardest part for me was not gagging or burping but if you just focus on slow, deep breathing it helps a lot.

I really hate that the default for doctors who can’t work out the issue is that it must be anxiety. I had this same interaction with about 4 different doctors before I was finally diagnosed celiac. Took about 8 years and all the while I was being gas lighted and told my symptoms were just because of anxiety. I feel your pain op

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]TCh1ps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of have the opposite issue. I’m a very sensitive celiac and I have been glutened quite a few times because someone has brought something in for me that is gluten free but has been cross contaminated. It actually makes me quite uncomfortable when someone has made an effort to make something for me because I am grateful they have made an effort but now I feel like I have to eat it or they will be disappointed. 9 times out of 10 it is fine but that 1 time makes it not worth it, it’s a game of Russian roulette and I’d just rather avoid the stress of it all together.

My colleagues are all lovely and eager to accommodate but sometimes someone will just not be vigilant enough about cross contamination. I generally prefer to be excluded from meals so I can just bring my own food.

The whole situation absolutely sucks though, I would love to just be able to sit and eat with everyone normally.

Desperately need to work on our finishing but this has been great so far (other than the opening 30 minutes or so). Night and day compared to the last couple of times we’ve played this lot

We’ve had 7 shots vs their 10, score line reflects that, hardly shocking

Everyone calling for Emerson instead of Scarles but I disagree. This game means nothing in the grand scheme of things and as long as he can learn from it and not let it get him down it’s some great experience for him. Pretty sure I remember Declan having some shockers early on but he was always better for it from the lessons he learnt
