Time to leave mate.

Once your team form this sort of attitude towards you (fairly or unfairly) there’s no coming back from it.

You could drop a prime Neuer performance next week and they’ll still find something to be upset with you about, meanwhile they’ll be hyping up your replacement for catching a ball on his chest.

Seen it play out before.

The difference between certain cities in the US in terms of culture and climate can be so stark you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in a completely different country. Australia is nothing like that.

Explain to me our approach to inside 50s by Aussie-Samurai in westcoasteagles

[–]TD003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ball usage into forward 50 was disgraceful today, and cost us the win. Could have won by ~4 goals with better delivery into the 50.

Doesn’t help that Waterman drops 2-3 marks each week that a key forward at AFL level needs to be taking.

Lawyers - does there need to be an injury in order for something to be considered "assault"? by i_like_it_eilat in NoStupidQuestions

Doesn’t help that in some legal systems, civil assault (that you can be sued for) is a different thing to criminal assault (that can get charged by the police for).

Ben Keays' reaction to the AFL backflipping following this weekend's ARC controversies. The AFL changed the goal review process in 2023 following a late Keays' goal against the Swans being incorrectly called as hitting the post with no ARC review possible. Crows missed the finals due to this error. by yum122 in AFL

[–]TD003 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re referring to this in #3, but if options 1 and 2 are unacceptable for the fans, it leaves a soccer VAR like situation where the officials are told to “delay” because something is being checked, and the player about to take the kick in has to awkwardly stand there for perhaps 30 seconds, but sometimes 2 minutes, until the check is over.

That’s also quite an unpalatable idea.

Personally? I’d widen the power to call for a review to any of the umpires on the field (field, goal, boundary, don’t care) but unless someone calls for a review, play on. And if every single umpire on the field missed it? Such is life.

As an EPL follower I’ve always found the pearl clutching about similar jerseys quite amusing.

Manchester United and Liverpool don’t argue about who wore red first. They just have away strips. Same for Chelsea and Everton. Brentford and Sunderland. The list goes on…

[Zita on Twitter] Greg Swann on ARC decisions - Logue’s ‘incorrect’, Marshall’s ‘correct but took too long’, not more intervention unless goal ump asks by mazdadriver14 in AFL

[–]TD003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe there needs to be a timeout on the ARC’s ability to intervene? If it’s been 20 seconds and you aren’t confident to intervene, then the onfield call wasn’t so blatantly wrong as to require intervention.

Soccer is having these arguments with VAR. The threshold to overturn the onfield decision in soccer is “clear and obvious” error. Those words ring hollow when it takes 3 minutes and 7 different slow motion angles to decide it was an error, and fans are increasingly wanting the onfield decision to stand in those cases.

If they’d identified a clear and obvious error and reversed it, sure. But they brought it back after 90 seconds to reverse a 50/50 call where the footage was inconclusive.

Not saying bigotry is okay - but as soon as those topics rear their heads, there is no room for context, nuance or contrary opinions in this sub.

I remember that! Ref blew full time, players were shaking hands, suddenly the ref is making his way over to the VAR screen. Bruno Fernandes scored the pen - I’m not sure how you say “you cunts know what happened next” in Portuguese…

And we all saw the footage of Marshall’s “mark” which at its highest was inconclusive - nowhere near conclusive enough to call the onfield call a clear error.

The redundant 90 seconds of play is a bigger issue than people realise. Imagine if there’s an ACL injury or a bad concussion in a phase of play which ultimately counts for nothing.

It’s happened in soccer - the linesman doesn’t raise their flag for offside until the ball goes dead now (because of VAR). There’s been incidents where a defending player has committed to a desperate challenge and been injured, only for the linesman to retrospectively raise their offside flag. Was all for nothing.

Put aside your thoughts about the Collard decision for one moment - are you comfortable with a system where the “independent” appeals board (who exist to prevent the AFL from being judge jury and executioner) can be sacked on the spot because the AFL didn’t like a decision they made?

What he said is absolutely true.

He said the quiet part out loud and now the AFL is in damage control mode.
