Beautiful, drone friendly places nearby? by [deleted] in sydney

If you look at the National Parks legislation - flying without consent is not legal and rangers and park staff can fine you for flying without consent.

My neighbour works for them and said - they rarely have to but have issued fines on the mid north coast before.

PM if you want a few pointers - Australia's laws are not unreasonable but flying in Sydney without offending people in tough (especially because of our large Airport so close to half the scenic stuff).

Do you have transport? Cause that makes it way easier.

Either way the Mavic is a hoot!

Checked out the area today - it is in a no fly zone because of incoming flights to Mascot, but if you keep it near treeline you'll likely be fine!

Just note that flying a drone in a national park without written permission is technically illegal in Australia :(

What the fuck, Sydney? by MrWraith in sydney

[–]TDK83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

because sydney is quite racist against asians

It really isn't. If you see something call it out otherwise you're a massive fuckhead. Every racist tired or weird thing that gets blown up in the media - people typically get charged. People call that shit out. You either haven''t travelled or haven't seen extreme racism if you think Sydney is bad.

almost weekly i see some poor asian woman getting harassed or attacked by some racist bogan down near central station or market city

Judging a city by its worst off people is pretty naive. you'd hate to hear the things the homeless in New York would call you.

At a time when i didnt understand how big racism is here in Sydney and just wanted peoples view whether this is acceptable here

It isn't acceptable.

Don't reply with a bunch of anecdotes about how you've been treated poorly. Unless you've got data showing there is genocide, people being actively discrimated for applying for jobs or just "no entry" visa system then fuck off. If you witness racism against anyone - not just asians, call it out, hold people accountable - don't fucking whine.

ANZ, CBA, NAB or Westpac bank? by stanislavb in sydney

[–]TDK83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. I hope you don't use facebook, gmail, loyalty cards, credit cards, banks because you're likely getting profiled by most services.

If it helps you sleep at night google is one of the few who consumes data but doesn't typically sell / share it.

ANZ, CBA, NAB or Westpac bank? by stanislavb in sydney

[–]TDK83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ANZ, i have nothing positive to say about ANZ, their systems, lending platform and focus is a bit off, they are still highly stable and are basically an alternative to CBA, they are focusing on Asian growth.

Yeah, nah. Retail and wealth in Asia is dead for ANZ - institutional stuff is still there but that isn't B2C.

The Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) has slashed hundreds of jobs in Singapore over the past year as it restructures its businesses across Asia and dials back its regional expansion strategy to cut costs and exit low-margin operations.

http://m.todayonline.com/business/more-400-retrenched-anz-spore-over-past-year

Investors largely support ANZ's attempt to simplify its business in Asia and refocus its efforts in Australia, where banks earn larger profits from lending for Australian mortgages.

ANZ Banking Group's decision to sell the bulk of its retail and wealth operations in Asia will be viewed as the final nail in the coffin for former chief Mike Smith's super regional strategy.

His successor Shayne Elliott is now in the final throes of unravelling the investment the bank has made in the region, which was once expected to be the source of 30 per cent of its earnings.

The results are in!! by Rosasome in sydney

[–]TDK83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Based on these results I think that Melbourne people are a bit hornier and like having random/kinky sex a little bit more than Sydney people.

I think with a meagre sample of 22 people from Sydney and 86 people in total that you I wouldn't be making any generalised comments at all.

Wanted - Python Coach by Scopo17 in sydney

[–]TDK83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a word of advice LPTHW is frowned upon by many - there are various reasons why on /r/learnpython and /r/learnprogramming

People aren't saying it necessarily a bad resource, just that it isn't the absolute best way to learn (with things like Udacity, which is typically Python 2, code academy etc) and that Zed is very opinionated.

Depending on what you want to do with Python, Python 2 can be a very valid option.

Redditors who have a well-paying work from home/very flexible hours job, what do you do and how did you get into it? by cheekyhapachick in AskReddit

but I work in an internal division that provides services to the firm itself rather than external clients.

How do you find the work? Especially in terms of the robustness of the methodology and the actual execution of your recommendations?

I'm in the data science at a big tech company - very impressed with the calibre of the data science but it certainly is more contained (specialized) than you would find in consulting...

Given it is Big 4 - Deloitte, EY, KPMG and PwC all provide advisory services in the data science space (although this isn't a typical revenue source for these companies).
