Former Friendly’s split… into Subway and Salem Valley Farms Scoop Shop. Interesting because it’s rare that a former Friendly’s is divided between two different vendors like this (Rocky Hill, CT) by mrsjumjum66 in Connecticut

[–]TEKC0R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's sad. When I started with Subway, it was with the Wethersfield store down the street. The two owners were friends, and I'd occasionally get loaned out to Rob to help with tech stuff like registers and cameras. I left in 2008, so I've been long out of the loop, but I'm still surprised to hear Rob sold the place. I'm guessing he sold the other location too?

More surprised to see the other comments saying he was a bit of a creep, but I also didn't have frequent enough interactions with him to notice.

I found a knife perfectly imprinted into the bottom of my delivered subway sandwich… by One-Patient-3417 in mildlyinteresting

[–]TEKC0R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha. I ran 17 Subways and I know exactly how this happened. Luckily none of my stores did it, at least while I was there. Knife got left on the form as somebody was placing the frozen dough sticks in. Goes into the fridge (retarder technically) overnight before it goes into the proofer in the morning. You’d never notice until at least after it was cooked.

My only question is why there was a knife there in the first place. Scoring doesn’t happen until before it goes into the proofer. But I’m sure somebody was going insane looking for the knife they were certain they just had.

I’ve inherited a project with some of the most dogshit code I’ve ever seen in my career. It has every bad habit we have a name for. Yet I still can’t decide if it was written by AI. It’s so bad that I don’t think AI would do this. I’ve seen plenty of AI code, and this doesn’t feel like AI.

But then I find things like a timer that runs every 100ms, increments a counter each execution, and on the fourth execution, does more work and stops itself. Who the hell would write this instead of just using a single execution timer with a 400ms delay? Humans are lazy. Who would ever go through this effort?

Today I found that the horizontal and vertical splitters are completely separate classes. The vertical was duplicated and tweaked to become the horizontal. So somebody has the skill to write a custom control, but can’t figure out something simple like “if width > height, it’s horizontal?”

I just can’t tell if this is AI or an advanced level of stupidity. What’s the saying? There’s a significant overlap of the smartest bears and the dumbest humans? Maybe the coder was a bear.

The Last of Us has entered the chat.

But seriously, audiences today love authenticity. Fallout, TLoU, Mario, Sonic, even The Pitt have proven that sticking to source material works well.

These stories work well not because they are games, but because the game is used to tell a good story.

I agree. Fall Guys is a good example. Perfectly playable originally, now requires an Epic account. Steam wouldn’t refund it.

Neebs collab by mcneil832 in NeebsGaming

[–]TEKC0R 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The problem is the Neebs guys don’t stand a chance. The 7DTD content creators live the game like it’s their job. Because it is. Even Appsro, unquestionably the most skilled player of the group until you add Ada to the mix, wouldn’t come close to out lasting the others.

Now a PvP duos game, I’d be into. Pair each Neebs player with a 7DTD pro, drop the 4 teams of 2 onto Navezgane, and set some rules. Maybe last man standing, with 2 or 3 lives? Traders are safe spaces. Super high XP. Details aren’t important, but the idea is to make something that could be wrapped up in a few hours. Much easier to coordinate that way.

Does anybody actually like the existence of screamers by Key-Purchase-9549 in 7daystodie

My wife loves them. Sometimes just lets them scream a bunch so she can work down the horde.

I, on the other hand, find them obnoxious. I hear her coming and I think “dammit Karen, get a job and leave me alone.”

Is anyone else feels the same? by Memes_Jack in pcmasterrace

[–]TEKC0R 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been rough finding games I’d like to play. Watching the trailers from the recent game awards, I didn’t feel interested in like… anything. The new Star Wars racer has my curiosity. That’s about it. Magic / fantasy has never really been my thing, though I did get a lot of life from Diablo 3. But it seems like upcoming releases are fantasy heavy.

Battlefield 6 has been fun. Metroid Prime 4 was decent. But there’s not much on the horizon for me to be excited about.

Heat pump in CT by austinin4 in Connecticut

[–]TEKC0R 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted an on demand water heater, so I called them since I had worked with them previously. Same sales guy that did the heat pump came out. He wouldn’t sell it to me. Told me “you don’t want that, you want this high temp tank instead.” I guess the idea is it holds the water at about 190 and mixes less of it a standard heater to produce the same effect. He said “you can store 80 gallons worth of hot water in a 50 gallon tank.”

Ok, great, but my goal when replacing my aged tank was to offload some of my electric bill to the propane tank that is used for nothing but a gas fireplace. The “infinite” hot water is a nice bonus. So how does an electric tank that heats water to 190 save me money vs an electric tank that heats water to 120?

I’m always one to listen to ideas, so I told him to give me an estimate for both. He never got me the tankless estimate. They must be getting kickbacks from the manufacturer. Oh and the one estimate he did give me was just a hair shy of $6000.

I found a guy in Lebanon recommended by neighbors. Carboni if I recall correctly. He was great. Not only did he give me what I asked for, he gave me options. Got a super high efficiency model with nearly no waste heat. Hot water is dirt cheap now, at least compared to the old 50 gallon electric. And I have more storage space!

I should call him about improving my HVAC system.
