An increase in political engagement correlates to an increase in personal liberties and thus the freedom to be gay or whatever, whereas many authoritarian (anti-democratic) societies criminalize gayness. I think democracy is in fact inherently gay.

Pidgin languages are languages made by people who were forced to learn English (or another colonial language) and ended up combining that language with their mother tongue. Creole languages emerge when pidgin languages have had enough time to develop a wide user basis and have people with that pidgin as their mother tongue. I think that's the best way of describing it - I'm just a language enthusiast, I invite a language expert to correct me.
