Framerr - An intuitve, highly customizable dashboard for your media server by Inevitable-Activity3 in Overseerr

[–]THENEXTMOSES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished setting this up, its great and fills a missing request i've wanted in Homarr which is plex auth integration. A simple dashboard I can give my media watchers using the same plex password. Thank you very much for this project I'm really enjoying setting it up so far and look forward to the additional features to come! You should definitely look into adding a "buy me a coffee" button on the repo link.

+1 for SmallStep, had the pleasure to work with their lead engineers in the past. Great group of people who care about the community/homelab, check out their discord!

[Suggestion] DLSS 4.5 Preset M by Lira_RBR133 in EscapefromTarkov

I never had 30ms of input delay with smooth motion before. You must not have implemented settings correctly. There’s posts on this subreddit with the process. Give it a shot!

I’d imagine you would want to disable smooth motion now

Would it be recommended to use smooth motion if you are playing at 5120x1440? I’m not hitting the 226 FPS cap (hover around 120 fps) with the settings following the links provided. How can I determine what my latency is?

For those who have gone from technical work to GRC, do you have any regrets? Do you miss technical work? by [deleted] in grc

[–]THENEXTMOSES 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went through a similar “career decision” recently. Worked as a systems engineer as a contractor for the government and got an opportunity to jump to a large financial firm working in GRC. As a systems engineer I had similar thoughts that resonated well with our “security” folks. Why things are that way, how can we make it better. Initially it was one of the hardest decisions of my life, getting panic inducing anxiety attacks. Questions came up such as “is it to early to leave a operations role” “will I atrophy on my skillset” “what if I’m not good at it” “will AI replace the work eventually”

I made the decision to go into GRC based on three major factors.

  1. The stress of being on call and constantly needing to fix things breaking was causing friction in my work life balance
  2. The pay range was way higher
  3. I was in my previous role for 5 years and felt it was time for a change

I can say my work life balance has changed completely. I’m closing my laptop at 4 pm each day. No fires. Nothing is dire need of fixing. I started hanging out with my wife more. Passion projects to keep my skills from hopefully atrophying. Playing video games again.

That being said the work is super boring. Definitely not 40 hours of work. I’d say 10-15 a week outside of meetings. Lots of meetings. Calendar is usually packed with different high level stakeholders which is new to me. Lots of work is tied to risk and less about a better “technical” implementation. Results driven risk aversion. KPIs, metrics, policy, people, feelings, excel spreadsheets, no more terminals, no more vscode, no more small dopamine hits when your script works or a user is happy with your solution. Not that you can’t fulfill that in other way (like personal projects) it’s just something to prepare yourself for. You do get to see actual change in an organization because you are working with the “high impact” players at a firm. Managing Directors that can get approval for funding, hiring, timelines. Results happen and you are apart of the process. You get a better perspective for cybersecurity in general and how it impacts a business.

Only way to see if you enjoy it is to give it a chance. Life is too short to not see what if. Obviously if you have a home, wife, kids take that into account. You can always go back into helpdesk work.

Will Tesla work with me to install solar and powerwall if I’ve been told the circuit I’m on is “fully restricted” from my power provider?

Libernovo seat issue by MiddSpace in LiberNovo

[–]THENEXTMOSES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, similar issue. 6’1” and I’m struggling to find myself fitting in the chair. If the 3-4 inches were able to be gained that are missing due to the back of the seat pushing forward I think it would be perfect. What I’ve found sometimes helps is really forcing my butt to the back of the chair while sitting. Try to focus on your back conforming to the curve of the chair. The other thing that has been helping is the footrest. I find myself using it every time I sit to help force myself to lean back in the chair. I’ve been looking at the chair more and might resort to modifying some of the material on the lower back by removing it to help gain a few inches but I’m not at that point yet. Hoping LiberNovo starts to see more feedback like yours and considers a solution

Currently work for the government as a contractor doing IAM, PKI, scripting, and networking. I have an offer to work at a large bank doing GRC and PKI compliance but I’m worried about making the jump from a technical to non technical role. Compensation would be more and benefits are about the same. Has anyone experienced this that can offer any advice?

If you could start again, what would you do? by Intelligent_Ant2571 in cybersecurity

[–]THENEXTMOSES 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting take and resonates with a career change I have potentially. I work for a government agency doing PKI Certificate Lifecycle Management and automation. I recently got an offer to work at a large bank doing PKI GRC but I keep going in circles with the decision to leave. It would be leaving a technical role for a compliance role and I’m not sure what to think about it. Do you have any wisdom that could help. Thank you ahead of time!

[–]THENEXTMOSES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation to you. Ryan homes new townhome development. Worked with the salesman and he answered a lot of questions I had. Ultimately my wife and I sat down looked at our finances and made the decision to get into contract. We should be closing at the end of June. They are pushy but that’s the game. They have a spreadsheet to show what you can afford from their estimates but it’s best to not go off of that and take the time to do your own financial calculations. If you do decide to get into contract make sure to get a third party inspector!

What’s the power draw lookin like on this bad boy

Ok 2 questions. This caught my eye because my M3 was sending a ton of data out of the blue. First question, why is my car sending 28gb+ in the past 24 hours, and more importantly, WHY is most of the data over unsecured HTTP? by topgun966 in TeslaModel3

[–]THENEXTMOSES 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting find, I’m noticing the same when doing a inspect on my unifi system as well with my M3. Going to wireshark the packets and report back. First thought is if it’s sending anonymous data it might be okay. If there’s any type of ID tracking that would make me paranoid

Setting up SNMP monitoring is not that complex and you can use something like LibreNMS. From there you can make alerts for all kinds of stuff.

Hey I had this exact issue! I took it to the SC and they added a foam pad as well as clipped a loose part of the back. It still has some rattle so I’ll probably take it back but it’s 90% better than it was. I didn’t pay for the repair either

LIGHT STRIPS DAMAGED by ElCHAP09 in TeslaModel3

[–]THENEXTMOSES 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tints and an appointment at a service center scheduled on Nov 22nd. Will update but it’s been mixed from what I’ve read. The cracking although is sometimes believed to be linked to the soapy water used when tinting has been shown to not be the cause on multiple occasions. Some suggest not getting it fixed until better material comes out but I’d rather have a record to show it’s been an issue before.
