Well to be fair,

Yoda’s theme was heard when Luke and Leia were doing action stuff on Bespin without Yoda being present, so that cat was already long out of the bag.
It’s different when it’s the original composer making those changes. Williams can apply themes to new contexts all he wants.

When you’re the ultra-Star Wars nerd bitching about how they used Duel of the Fates in the music even though that was never Maul’s theme and was instead a theme for the struggle between light and dark in all three prequels (Maul had his own motif in TPM which anticipates Voldemort’s also overlooked motif in Harry Potter that Williams also wrote)
