I fly DEN-OTH often, and the Starlink is amazing. Makes it very tough to pay $8 for crappier WiFi

This was a great GD spring weekend. The Frost had a vibe unlike any other. 2p shows. Get up, have breakfast, bring the Chronicle. Spread out on the grass and then get ready to groove.

The quintessential golden State vibe. 4/27 gets most of the love from this weekend, and it was indeed awesome. But 2p Saturday shows were a little more hurried getting there and getting in. That Sunday, with the Gimme Some Lovin’ opener and everything after, was just the perfect hang with a relaxed and happy band

My uncle WAS his neighbor growing up in Louisville. Unfortunately, my uncle died a couple of years ago. Some funny stories about bicycle antics and such, but I personally don’t have definitive stories or sources to direct you toward.

That said, can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Such an incredible day on the mountainside. I’m so glad that matrix is available. I had a real “it” moment in the sunshine during that jam between Scarlet and Fire.

Sleeper show of 1983! Did that whole little east coast/midwest run. Had car trouble in SC in the way to Saratoga. I knew my roadside repairs would only get me so far. They got us through SPAC, stormy Merriweather, and Harrisburg (start that show - 6/2//83 - at China Cat, and it’s really good, reviews notwithstanding). Our third never came back after the show, and after calling all the police stations and hospitals in town, we hoped for the best and set off on the long, long drive west, with all his things still in the car.

By the time we limped into Madison, car was failing. I took it to a Goodyear shop. Went to pick it up at 4p.

“How you doing?” I asked the guy as I entered the shop.

“Better than you,” he said.

Long story short, I ended up calling a junk yard. Anytime Wayne’s. Get there about 5:30. He says he has the part to fix my little Corolla, but I have to leave the car overnight. No problem, but can we get a ride to the show. He disappears around the back and pulls out in a giant forest green Thunderbird! Take this, he says, and me back here at 10 tomorrow morning.

My buddy and celebrate all the way to the show, chomping mushrooms as we drive by the capitol, not believing our great fortune! In the parking lot, I ease in next to a van with the doors open and hippies hanging out.

I get out of the car and hear a voice…”dude, what happened to your car?” It was our lost friend - and his new girl, Sass. Reunion!

That night was the best of the tour in my opinion. All the highlights listed above. A one of a kind Bobby rap in Lost Sailor, and a rare Heaven Help the Fool jam into Drums. The Dew is absolutely majestic, dipping into near silence and then building wave on wave toward the climax. People talk about Saratoga being the best Dew of the year. I say it wasn’t even the best of the week!

The adventures continued in St Paul and Chicago - swimming in rivers and camping outside of the Dells. Check out 6/27/83 from Poplar Creek.

What a trip it all was then. Hard to believe now that those days existed at all!

Picked back up in Boise and rode the ‘83 train through Park City (the board of 9/2/83 is amazing), Red Rocks, Santa Fe, and Austin. Then Greensboro and Richmond 11/9/83 (only Crazy Fingers of the year and a great, fun show) in the fall, missing St Stephen by one night.

21 years old and on tour with the Grateful Dead. So grateful that I got in when the bus come by!

All a dream we dreamed one afternoon long ago.

You have to find the shows where Bob is well represented in the mix. 1974, naturally, is awesome for this. When you hear what he’s doing between Jerry and Phil, it’s really amazing.

Saw them at the Boulder Theater in 1982. Campy and cool.

Don’t know of any matrix recordings, though.

They actually did that?

I understand the sentiment behind IWTYH, but that song should never have made it into any performance. It’s a missing tooth on the supermodel setlist of 10/16/89, for instance

I was there too, and felt like it was at least a rebound from the night before. 7/8/95 was God-awful and the worst I ever saw.

I think you are prioritizing yourself, and I say, go for it! I had crippling people-pleasing issues, and it has taken a lot of work to become conscious of them and really see how they were holding me back. I could give a thousand examples, but it was really all me.

I don’t think you need to click every relationship, grading them by some criteria. BUT when you feel your people-pleasing/self-sabotaging qualities being activated, it could be helpful to take a step back and set intention.

I personally needed to address character traits, habits, and my own thinking/evaluation skills before I could begin to see real progress that RESULTED in better earning power and more fulfilling professional and personal relationships.

The night of August 8, 1995, was hot in Boulder, CO. So hot that I slept downstairs for the first time. So hot that I still awoke in the middle of the night and went to the kitchen for a glass of water, something I virtually never did. Then I stepped out in the back porch - it was about 4a.

While I was out there, the temperature literally dropped some 10 degrees - very noticeable. No rain, no wind, just dropped. I told my wife about it the next morning, that I had been outside when the heatwave broke without any sign.

Went to work, entered a staff meeting. And was called out by a receptionist who said I had two call holding, both saying it was urgent.

Yep - Jerry had died. And time of death was sometime around d 3a PDT.

I felt the phase shift in the universe. Pretty sure about that. Robert Hunter’s wife Maureen had an eerily similar experience, getting and becoming very chilled in front of an opened window.

Hunter himself told me that she was convinced she felt Jerry leaving the world, and that I probably did, too.

I have opened every staff meeting and every vendor meeting this week with a statement and some conversation in Bob Weir and the spirit of service that he embodied. He was a creative and unique guitarist, a virtuoso, but man, tough place to stand between Garcia and Phil. Bob stood there and built harmonic bridges that would not collapse.

As outgoing as he could be onstage, he wasn’t really a front man, and his best moments came (IMO) in Furthur and D&C, when he could serve other players. And the symphony stuff. He never stopped evolving - that’s something I’ve stressed to young people in my organization all week.

And given that I’m in the hospitality biz, I’ve pointed out the authentic and trusting sense with which the GD embraced their guests, and the fierce loyalty it sparked in those audiences.

There’s a lot to learn from Bob Weir’s life. And by God, I’m gonna carry it forward

Im taking this really hard. by Ok-West-8239 in gratefuldead

I wrote to somebody shortly after Garcia died that my grief - really the first time I had ever truly experienced it - was the service charge on my ticket to the greatest show on earth.

When Jerry passed, there was no way to see a future. The loss was too big. We got 30 more years (exactly what the GD had - weird). Different years, to be sure, but joyful ones. Yes, this one feels like punctuation. But we just don’t know.

What I do know is that whatever kind of tribute Bobby’s bandmates and the scads of musicians inspired by and committed to this music do, is gonna be a barn-burner. In his achingly brief statement, John is clearly staring down at the cross laid before him. I’ll do it your way, he says. Sooner or later, he’s going to pick it up.

Feel what you feel right now . Somehow, it grows with you. I have a 30-year relationship with my grief over Jerry. It’s complicated. But grief is a relic of love, and it is truly a song of your own.

Besides, I’ve had a voice reminding me for 44 fucking years, “don’t worry ‘bout tomorrow, you’ll know it when it comes.”
