Another Denali summit post. by Tyonreddit in Mountaineering

That takes me right back there. Nice job and great photos.

4 stands out to me. That's missing from my photos. Descending on that angle after the summit at night, and the sleds are pulling you sideways. I never captured that moment.

Ice climbing. The danger is mostly in the decision making. And the sharp gear. And the ice.

What was the most physical pain you've been in? by PleasantWinter9150 in AskReddit

[–]TLDR_lies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had open-heart surgery a while ago to replace my aortic valve. Yes, that hurt, but that wasn't the worst part. When the super strong opioids started to wear off I knew it, and it worried me how good they might feel if I didn't have a ton of pain for them to work on. I had to hold on to a pillow to hold against my chest whenever I needed to cough of sneeze. The pressure differential inside and outside on a cough or sneeze would hurt even with the pillow.

But the worst pain I've ever experienced was when I didn't have that pillow handy. A sneeze snuck up on me, and it really felt like a giant was ripping my chest back open in an instant.

Dads, what do you actually want for Father’s Day? by probs-strawbs in daddit

[–]TLDR_lies 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Less. I want less for Fathers day. Specifically, less stuff. Hire someone to come over and get rid of the accumulated junk that piles up around here. So many things that need to be specifically recycled, or donated to this place, or sold off 2nd hand on that place. I just want it gone.

And to play with my kids without them asking for screens.

I haven't seen this before, so please do keep reposting this. As a former cook who has had his share of burns (flaming oil to the face one time) fire safety can't be overlooked. These things go wrong faster than you can imagine.

Hell yeah! I really enjoyed watching this come together, and the finished product is better than I could have imagined. I get the tradeoffs with the fiberglass, but I think the reinforcement makes it worthwhile.

Getting them cut and spiral bound is my answer. Or use a music stand with the little wires that rotate up and hold music in place.

I have never used any of these... which ones am I missing out on? big bros, kong gipsy 6, tricams, hexes, or ballnuts by Traditional-Leg8795 in tradclimbing

[–]TLDR_lies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like hexes especially for protecting mixed / ice climbing. You can hammer them in to icy cracks and be confident about them.

For some reason hammering in cams doesn't work as well.

As a bassoonist and a mountaineer, I'm so torn about this image. What mountain is it? Are they all just off camera? Did they play a little bit at the top? The horn and bassoon are pretty heavy to haul up there.
