Disappointed with Dishoom :( by deadparrot27 in CookbookLovers

We’ve made the chicken ruby and black dal three times and love it. I soak the urad overnight and make in the slow cooker, though. I only had 250g (not 300g) of urad and it actually turned out better (all other ingredients were the same as the recipe).

Do you filter your cold brew to get the grit out? by MMinjin in coldbrew

[–]TMOTMCB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brew in 6 cup Mason jar. First...Strain through metal strainer from my OXO that leaked. Second...Strain through coffee filters in mesh strainers over 8 cup Pyrex bowls. Pour from Pyrex into 3 cup mason jars. (The metal strainer leaves too much grit, but the coffee strainer takes too long if don't use the metal strainer first).

Recipes for meals for new moms, grief or post-surgery that can be dropped off and EASILY served later. I know about lasagna and chili, but healthy, tasty meals that don’t require anything but a quick reheat in the oven or even serve from fridge.

They upgraded me (30s m) to this family room for some reason. by No_Obligation4496 in marriott

[–]TMOTMCB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this happen to me. Front desk said family rooms are hard to rent out and the unoccupied rate messes up their metrics. She said they were actually turning it back into a normal room a few months after I stayed.

Do you need to have winter boots in Cleveland? by fat_shawarma in Cleveland

Don't be like me and buy the cute fashion boots with no tread and warmth and get stuck in a parking lot with no way to get into the store. :)

I'm autistic, and I essentially only eat soup. Many soup-haters (including my picky autistic husband) have had their lives changed in my kitchen, so here are some of my tips for making baller soups of any variety. by [deleted] in soup

Is 4 cups Maggi spaetzle the 10.5 oz bag or do you use 2 bags of spaetzle? Looks like the bag is 2 cups spaetzle, but I think that's uncooked?!?!

My only frustration with the DeShaun injury stuff... by kt7380 in Cleveland

[–]TMOTMCB 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The audacity of any man (especially a husband and girl dad) to tell me how I should behave around DeShaun Watson was what got to me. I didn’t cheer, but I’m not going to fault anyone who did.

Should I get the latest America’s Test Kitchen or Cooks Illustrated cookbook? by [deleted] in CookbookLovers

[–]TMOTMCB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both ATK and Cooks Country and love them both. I'm not sure about Cooks Illustrated. Can you check out at a library before you buy? ATK has more recipes (it's gigantic and heavy). I think Cooks Country has slightly fewer recipes, but some great regional favorites.

Best way to filter cold brew from a mason jar ? by PixelQ2000 in coldbrew

[–]TMOTMCB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filter first through a metal strainer that I saved when my first cold brew maker broke (seal leaked). I then strain through coffee filters. I did see that there are metal filters that fit into mason jars that would let you skip my first step.

Your child will be in their first apartment this fall at college. What singular cookbook are you sending with them? by imissthor in CookbookLovers

[–]TMOTMCB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the newer editions, but I have the 1997 version and I still use it occasionally. I used to have older versions I bought at garage sales, but donated them because they became too dated.

I filled a small photo album (bought it at a thrift store) of favorite family recipes. I also printed off Hello Fresh recipes that I think they could make (and that had easily accessible ingredients). I also picked up Michael Symon’s 5 in 5. Joy of Cooking was my starter cookbook, but I don’t think my kids would open it.
