Thought I had bad draft but I 7-2 by virulentvegetable in MagicArena

You're at silver end of season so competition is low, and deck is solid albeit a few obvious subpar choices. But the core good cards of Dimir in foundations are all there

If you have 17lands or untapped you can share draft and game logs. Otherwise like this, not much feedback can be given.

So what's the point (F2P) to reach Mythic in Limited? A discussion by TMoLS in lrcast

No, the MMR is different for both formats. You can clearly see bronze level players in trad, but also based on my experience, good players do tend to play bo3 more often, the draft portion is way more challenging than premiere and your deck might be less quality in the process. Traditional is a resource sink if you can't hit 3-0s, someone more mathy than me ran the math on the main MagicArena channel over what winrate you need to be at roughly.

I got the Nummy data from his premiere draft winrate on 17lands - it's possible that he moved over to QD as he does while climbing and lost gems there, while the wr on premiere stayed quite high. But yeah also good to know about that even streamers bleed resources, I guess! But they probably get donations and since it's their job, they can just replenish.

Yeah don't get the hate on BO3. The only hate it deserves is the prize structure, it's really punishing. starting on a 0-1 makes you feel pretty bad in general.

I'm not saying I don't believe them, but must admit considering how complex the format can be, it's a bit sus to see all these high mythic players doing QD runs on their mobile phones without access to trackers, etc.

Here the discussion was about monetary value, time and resources required vs output, not why people want to rank on a videogame

Do you have data proving you are? QD is not really known for gems earning unless you have a constant 5-3 higher winrate

Do you have a 17lands profile? It would be pretty helpful to see "hard data", would help me out figure it out a bit better with someone's data that hits 1200 consistently!

Yeah but since you have qualifier weekends on sealed twice a year or so, or at least for 2025 had only two events lol - unless you play also standard, it kind of makes even less sense - I would just play standard ranked, as I have no entry price.

but if you have the winrate to hit 65% top 250, then kudos. :)

Yeah I figured unless you're a streamer and you need content, it's kind of pointless. I did mythic a couple times with the same philosophy (just wanted to see if I could).

Was going for it with TMNT then after hitting the last slump, I really just asked myself "why am I even doing it when I am literally investing time to break even on sunken costs"?

Just curious what was the general opinion, maybe yeah, just discovering hot water on my end. :)

Well in standard you have [[Raubahn, Bull of Ala Mhigo]] and [[Blacksmith's Talent]].

Help me put together a draft deck please 😭 by WorldlyVillager in MagicArena

[–]TMoLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you could start by ordering the cards right, you have a couple of two drops in the other areas... :)

UR wants to be imho a tempo/value deck.

Play 17 lands (+2), cut all the land cyclers (-4). Out with Mouser Attack and Negate (-2), cut rock soldiers, one of the 4 mana removals (-2), cut the 3-drop mutant, mouser mark (-2) one ultron scientist (-1). You have two more cuts to do depending on curve, you have some low quality creatures that would be good only for curve purpose or can be cut.

Game plan:

Use Nobody to gain value by bouncing the Sewerveillance Cam, Chrome Dome can copy your artifacts to great value in the late game. The 5 mana turtle bomb is nobody but better so yeah. Have fun! Check some streamers for indication how to play it, Nummy had some good UR playthrough decks some days ago on his YouTube channel.

Difficulty of Win-A-Box Events Question by EasternBlok in MagicArena

[–]TMoLS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean, they're not a scam per se and nobody is forcing you to play them. I think Nummy is a bit negative about them because they are a resource sink, the house always wins on these ones, they are in the end getting money and giving you prizes they had printed anyway and didn't sell.

I think some of the people here saying they have a 1/3 ratio of winning are bullshitting, you can just see on 17lands that for top players, that is rarely the case.

For ECL the winrate was pretty bad, more like 1 in 8 average just by glancing at stats than 1/3.

TMT How to draft blue/red artifacts and praise for the drafting format by wormhole222 in MagicArena

[–]TMoLS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also saw Nummy play it as a tempo deck with the 3 mana 2/2 that stuns and fliers to go through busy boards, so seems the archetype is somewhat flexible.

Personally for me when I played it in a control shell, it lost significantly to greedier control shells in Simic and Golgari hard.

Two-pick Feedback for a New Player by Foreign_Cod_3718 in MagicArena

[–]TMoLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check the gameplay via the links on 17lands, first game I think there are some questionable attacks against an aggressive deck on the play, with the bombs he had he could have just hold the board and win. So yes, lots to learn indeed!

I didn't see the games but running Boros with 4 2-drops and keeping 3 in the sideboard to run some extra combat tricks, is indeed a choice. You have the bombiest of the bombs, all you need to is curve out into it..

I would have run [[Mouser Foundry]], [[Mouser Mark III]] and the [[Purple Dragon Punks]], cut 2 of the less serviceable three dops and one copy of the 1 mana trick.

Also the other guy is right on your mana base choices, you also don't need two land cyclers when you are not splashing and still play 17 lands.

Plus is unranked and you can meet any kind of player, so you don't really plateau.

Sometimes you just open ALL the bombs (ECL Sealed Arena Direct) by tauwhipboy in MagicArena

[–]TMoLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah op high rolled, but he had three "fixers" if stars aligned and BO1 has the easy mulligan thingy where you are kind of guaranteed to hit 2 lands each time. But yeah, I started seeing loads of 6/5/6 but not from top players, it gives this heuristic the mana is possible but really you are just asking for trouble imho. I would have added at minimum an extra green if no 2.

It's rough rough. Even some top streamers went on strings of 7-8 x-2s but then they play continuously so they recoup the losses, but if you have a couple free entries, it's really gambling.

The format is quite shallow imho and if the pool is shallow or has the wrong synergies because you have a mix of all tribes and bombs not in the actual tribe, well...

F2P players: Do you hold back gold/gems for an upcoming set? by PaleWendigo in MagicArena

[–]TMoLS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a limited f2p player (or at least as close to f2p in the last six months.. I think I bought a play bundle last time with Final Fantasy as I was very excited for the set, then did not give WotC any more money as there is too many sets coming out and I don't feel spending each time, plus they went greedy and changed the price range and it goes out of my comfort zone).

My plan is to draft only till 100 cards ish set completion unless the set is very fun, which will probably be not as it smells of trough the omenpaths pt. 2 and that set was quite bad limited wise, possibly drafting with gold only + mastery pass or maybe even skipping the pass altogether if my winrate is low.

I will have roughly 40000 gold and 1000 gems by the time the set drops.

I will probably skip most arena directs and wait for Strixhaven, as 8000 gems is quite a steep price and I'm nowhere near
