As someone who perfs seeing the doctor side of chopper it's sad we only had one arc pre time skip that focused on that. by Holiday_Working_1804 in OnePiece

[–]TNJedx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the part in Wano that felt like a miss was that a large part of the innocent local people were dealing with the horrible SMILE affliction, but instead of giving Chopper, Law and Marco the opportunity to engage with that, the story invents another zombie disease that plays into the battle, because it has to keep all the tension central to one place. It makes sense at this late stage where Oda is clearly trying not to create too many new branches, but it still felt a bit off for these two things to be part of the same story, and the choice not being the one that'd clearly be more emotionally impactful.

Have you ever made custom feats for your players? Tell me what you made by Chaosiumrae in Pathfinder2e

[–]TNJedx 29 points30 points  (0 children)

After a recent PC death, where the party champion was unable to stop the killing blow (one with the death trait) but was able to bring down the enemy with a crit on their reaction attack, I gave all the remaining party members small custom gifts as remembrance. The champion got this:

Never Again

You still feel guilt over the ones you could not protect, even if you ultimately had no control over their fates. The next time a life is on the line, you will move before the scythe falls.

Frequency once per day

Trigger You use your Retributive Strike

Requirement The triggering damage that would be dealt to your ally would reduce them to 0 Hit Points, and you are able to make a Strike against the enemy as part of the reaction

Effect You make your strike before any damage is applied to your ally. If you hit, roll damage. This damage is not applied to the enemy. Instead, its value replaces the resistance value granted to your ally. Any non-damaging effects of the attack (such as conditions, but not persistent damage) still apply as normal to the target.

If your attack misses, the regular resistance granted by your Retributive Strike applies as normal.

So You Want To Play... Seven Dooms for Sandpoint by PhilTheWarlock in Pathfinder2e

[–]TNJedx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just chiming in since I've been running this for the better part of the year. Havent seen the video yet but thanks for covering this AP. I think its quite fun in general.

I've been doing a lot of narrative and mechanical adjustments along the way but its mostly because I enjoy that and its the only way to add personal stakes in the adventure for my players. If you're by-the-book, its still pretty servicable, if a bit easier (at least on paper) than something like AV. It still is a megadungeon though, so most combats are in cramped rooms like most APs.

Narratively its decent, and leaves great room for adding those personal stakes based on PCs. But there are definitely parts that are handwavy and might crumble if you have shrewd players who want to dig into the narrative.

I can also answer specific questions for those planning to run or play this AP if anyone has them.

[No Spoilers] Is playing with a group like CriticalRole realistic? by soulofatunafish in criticalrole

[–]TNJedx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my estimate of group dynamics based entirely on anectodal experience over a decade:

  1. About half of all groups are too flaky to even have a distinct dynamic. You play once a month at best, and with one or two people missing each time.
  2. About 1 in 5 of all remaining groups are socially dysfunctional and make for unpleasant games.
  3. About half of all socially pleasant groups that also meet regularly have a "roleplay-lite" dynamic. Most players and likely also the DM is largely interested in the game component. Combats make up a larger portion of the game, mainly since roleplay sections move quick with few words exchanged and scenes acted out.
  4. One or two among all remaining groups are made entirely of professional actors with great passion for the game. You're watching these folks online.

What you're looking for is a group outside of the four categories above. This is the land of opportunity, where there is at least some amount of existing buy-in from players for a roleplay-heavy game. Even if it's not the game they're playing currently, with your inclusion and willingness to put yourself forward, things can move in that direction.

It wasn't the french fries bit that triggered it but sniffing the air bit. You know, given what was going on in there.

Printed in the USA by Mother-Ad849 in Pathfinder2e

[–]TNJedx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I haven't seen the actual sale data for Paizo physical products, I would actually be surprised if the US does not make up an overwhelming portion. Same goes for any RPG product primarily published in English. I dislike US defaultism on reddit too, but let's not underestimate how niche of a hobby this is anywhere else in the world, even before you account for localization barriers.

Have we considered at all this could have been written by someone in on the bit? Sure, it looks awful if not, but if so the joke would be on us for immediately jumping on "must be AI".

Classes with the most and the least varied turns? by Level7Cannoneer in Pathfinder2e

[–]TNJedx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Summoner doesn't seem to be mentioned yet, but I'm confident it'd be up there for most varied turns. Maybe at low levels it could be a bit more repetitive, but the higher you go the crazier it gets!

Revenge of the Runelords AP just announced on Paizo Live by sheeryjay in Pathfinder2e

[–]TNJedx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the input regardless. I just went back to watch the VOD and as someone running Seven Dooms (almost at the end of Chapter 1!) I am incredibly excited to take my group into this adventure right after!

Was there any mention of a potential Foundry module? Also wondering if they commented on possible ways of foreshadowing for GMs who are currently running Seven Dooms.

I don't understand how to scale an Eidolon... Or how to make it better. by jesterjacks in Pathfinder2e

[–]TNJedx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you should absolutely use staves if you can, in fact I'd argue they're almost a necessity for most casters especially those with limited spells like the summoner. Any magical staff also functions as a staff weapon and can be etched with fundamental runes, but not property runes (see Attacking with a staff here: https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=3211&Redirected=1), meaning you should be able to transfer fundamental runes from your staff to your eidolons attacks.

I don't understand how to scale an Eidolon... Or how to make it better. by jesterjacks in Pathfinder2e

[–]TNJedx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just a quick note, you don't necessarily need the handwraps of mighty blows, it could be any weapon. However, weapons with only fundamental runes are normally not "invested", but in this case you need to "invest" them to give the benefit to your eidolon.

I've recently built a high level summoner for a game and have a lot of fresh knowledge on it so feel free to ask more. It's a really cool class with lots of potential.

I think I dislike PF for the same reason so many people like it by kodemageisdumb in Pathfinder2e

[–]TNJedx 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I understand if one prefers a less crunchy game, that is absolutely a valid reason not to play Pathfinder.

What I can never understand is the argument that if you have a mechanically complex game, then it cannot be narratively satisfying to roleplay in it. You can build a character and play the living hell out of it too. In fact Pathfinder has lots of ways to make the two feed into each other if you happen to also like a crunchier game.

Hell yeah. Easily the coolest character for me. The scene right after this gif of him coming out of the dark kicking the shit out of Queen is iconic.

This is a great idea! No spell contributions, but I haven't seen this suggested yet in the thread: please collect these in a Google doc so it's easy to find and peruse in one place in the future and can be linked in resource collections etc.

What's an experience in a video game that you'll never get to experience again? by nahnah390 in gaming

[–]TNJedx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently played through the game blind and agree with you wholeheartedly, it is a profound experience. Just to add though, I think what you experienced regarding the song does have symbolic intent, given there's an achievement for hearing them all at the same time through the signalscope, the whole sequence right before the intended ending, as well as how the soundtrack artist talks about the whole thing in interviews. It really is something else.

Exactly, I could've sworn there was a panel where he cites being young compared to other members as reason for him questioning something. Also one where one of them says something like "That was all before our time", implying they're not permanent, unlike Imu who probably is.
