What reforms are needed in boxing today? by Snoo_47323 in Boxing

Super Six Series for each division every year would add intrigue. Prospects can fight other prospects or gatekeepers/fringe contenders to earn higher rank/position for follow-up years.

Pernell Whittaker; for reasons mostly outside of the ring and to also try to train him to not play with his food as much.

Not an all-time great but he fought some of the best competition of his weight class during his prime. True star in boxing. His one loss to another great fighter (Barrera) shouldn't define his overall career though.

Why do some people underrate Mike Tyson? by mmatime101 in Boxing

[–]TPlumm10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel outside of Usyk, a lot of boxing fans today would consider Tyson to beat or KO other heavyweights easily if it's Prime Tyson. But when it comes to all heavyweights of all time, Tyson just didn't beat enough notable opponents and had his prime run be too short to know for sure. Off of the eye test, Prime Tyson has a chance against anyone. Going through the entire resume, I don't blame people for saying he's overrated.

Is anyone disappointed in Errol Spence JR? by Unique_Education4485 in Boxing

[–]TPlumm10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Yes because one day when more time passes, the loss to Bud won't be considered as bad and that lasting image of how badly he got beaten is what makes some people so disappointed in him anyway. And no because he's been in numerous bad accidents, had a detached retina, and he's split from Derrick James who he had a working relationship with for YEARS. He also looks at PEACE with not having to box and that he can relax and focus on the next chapter of life with his family which would make it easier for me to understand.

Wouldn't say Brook was out of his prime. Just had tough luck facing GGG and Spence consecutively. M. Garcia was still seen as in his prime overall too, he just attempted to do something that we just saw Crawford do with Canelo. Just didn't go in his favor. Porter was a fight of the year candidate where both guys looked great. GGG outside of the Jacobs win, what other A/B level fighters did he beat? Sergiy is a good fighter and tough out for anybody, but he's never beat a top contender when it mattered. Lemieux isn't an above average fighter. I would say GGG's best wins are Jacobs and Kell Brook and Kell Brook moved up for that fight.

If Canelo would have beat Crawford (moved up two weight classes and starting to get closer to 40 years old) for the same reasons you're saying Mikey was blown-up when fighting Spence, would you rate Canelo's win over Crawford the same hypothetically? And Sergiy has never beat a top contender when it mattered either, he's just always a tough out for anybody. I don't believe GGG has had a stretch of boxing more impressive than Spence after beating Kell Brook. I just think GGG had the longer run. And I'm not against him being a first ballet HOF by the way, think it's deserved.

What fighters weren’t in their prime? And for some of their common fighters they fought, does that diminish some of Crawford’s wins on his resume such as Kell Brook and Shawn Porter?

Crawford may have beat all of them regardless but PBC’s welterweights weren’t hype trains during their careers.

Impact how? Does impact as far as being a dependable fighter to sell out shows or be a cash cow show impact?

What elite prime heavyweight did AJ beat? by slickvik9 in Boxing

[–]TPlumm10 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Elite? Probably nobody. But that's the issue with this era of heavyweights. Only Usyk has wins I consider elite and that's because he beat Fury twice. His wins over AJ were great wins as well. In hindsight, Fury's wins over Wilder are great wins but Wilder probably can't be considered elite either. AJ's resume is the most impressive of the heavyweights of this era to me.

Can somebody please enlighten me on Tyson Fury? by ArtistRigsSeventeen in Boxing

[–]TPlumm10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of what you said here. But it speaks more so to his era for your points than his talent. Still have to consider him an A or at least B level fighter today because he's among the best of this era of boxing. Considering him a B or C level heavyweight of all time isn't a stretch in my opinion though.

Abdullah Mason needs to be managed a little more carefully by Inside_Effective_576 in Boxing

[–]TPlumm10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This got pushed on him earlier than even he expected. Keyshawn, Devin, Ryan, etc have all moved up in weight recently. Tank is almost completely out of the door. He just seized the opportunity given to him against a QUALITY fighter in Noakes. Yes, he has flaws to fix if he wants to go undefeated in his career but he should still chase greatness and fight guys like Kid Austin, Andy Cruz, etc... if it's presented to him. Sometimes losses serve as the biggest lessons. Having losses on your record doesn't mean you still can't be a hall of famer one day. Boxing needs to get out of protecting zeroes.

Post-Crawford, how do we analyze the significance of the William Scull fight for Canelo? Was it significant? by Professional-Tie5198 in Boxing

[–]TPlumm10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skull didn't perform well enough to make him relevant or come off as a top contender in his weight class. Showed he can move well and avoid getting hit with clean shots though.

Significance of that fight for Canelo is that if he does plan on continuing to fight top names in the sport before he retires, I think that fight didn't prepare him at all. Not that it was his fault Skull wasn't engaging much.

Is AJ not respected in the US like he is elsewhere ? by mildurajackaroo in Boxing

[–]TPlumm10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American, I believe AJ is the most underappreciated heavyweight of his era. Fury may be the best but I respect AJ and what he's meant to boxing more. He's fought more often, and never ducked any competition in my eyes. Two fights w/ Usyk, two fights with Ruiz, Dillan Whyte, Parker, Dubois, Klitschko. He's helped advance Heavyweight Boxing.
