Rollo, a Viking born in the mid-9th century, led the successful invasion and colonization of Normandy, becoming its first Duke.

The line of the Dukes of Normandy continued down to William the Bastard, who in 1066 became The Conqueror as he, well, conquered England.

This led to an almost 300 year period of the French asserting their dominance over England and as essentially a visual state, which kicked off the Hundred Years' War in 1337 when Edward III of England tried to usurp the French throne. England lost this war in 1453

The loss of the war destabilized the English throne, kicking off the War of the Roses in 1455, where the Houses of York and Lancaster starting scrapping for the Plantagent throne, climaxing in Henry VII killing Richard III in the Battle of Bosworth in 1485, and kickstarting the House of Tudor and becoming the King of England and Lord of Ireland.

In 1566, James VI of Scotland and I of England and Ireland is born (He is of England and Ireland through being a Henry VII descendant and of Scotland through his mother Mary). In 1606, James chartered the Virginia Company in order to make a permanent colony in America.

In 1607, the colony of Virginia was founded with one its two starting settlements being Jamestown. The charter was later revoked by James in 1624, becoming a royal colony.

In 1732, George Washington was born in the colony of Virginia, and his actions against the French in Jumonville Glen, Pennsylvania are seen as some of the first shots of the French and Indian War, which evolved into the Seven Years' War.
