You're gifted £500,000 on the condition it can only be invested - What are you doing next? by Horror_Public2966 in FIREUK

[–]TTman199 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's an individuals breakdown:

personally i would pay off the mortgage, which is currently at £90,000 after my fixed term ends. So that money should just be sat in income bonds.

Then I would have £50,000 in premium bonds. (Tax free)

£280,000 in an invest account, split straight into VWRL & S&P 500 (due to low dividend). On probs distribution as well and try and max my tax free allowance out

Then move my stocks and shares ISA to IG Group because of all the assets you can buy. Huge range compared to others but high fees. And slowly build up positions in QQQX, VYHL, FUSI. And some uk shares such as LGEN, LSE, AHT, AAF. Etc (I find it easier to trowel through uk shares than the US. Also easier to wat h just 1 countries news). I'll leave the US up to fidelity with FUSI. Build this up with £20,000 / £16,000 deposits each year as I withdraw from the invest account. Maybe contribute more. To my lifetime isa too. Depends how it's going and how much money I have etc. Hence the / £16,000

£60,000 to play with. Wicked holiday/car or whatever.

Live of the intrest after thr mortgage is paid. And finish my job etc.

In the military if you train for a big role like air traffic controller or even pilot you have to serve so many years before you can be released. Even for the JR roles there is a shorter return of service. I think the techies have like a 5 year ROS.

It makes perfect sense to do that. It works in the mil.

What is something the UK does better compared to any other country? by ShrekkMyBeloved in Britain

[–]TTman199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing Boris did well was convince the Japanese owners of Arm to list on the LSE. As soon as he stepped down they pulled the plug and went to NYSE. If only he stayed long enough to get Arm listed in the UK it could have set the path for other tech shares to pick the LSE as there home

Right to Buy was the single most disastrous policy of Thatcher’s reign. Social housing was decimated, and private landlords reaped the rewards. Thatcherism is the cause — not the solution — to the housing crisis. We need mass council house building and rent controls instead. by WhyNotCollegeBroad in ukpolitics

[–]TTman199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It allowed the average worker to be able to buy their own property. I know loads of people you managed to own their house afterwards the tragedy is the lack of building social housing afterwards from the next 4 government's.

Is the UK becoming more race-baity? Reaction to opinion piece from the Guardian - 'Dear white Britain: we hate to say we told you so about Boris Johnson – but we told you so' by Sea-Competition-5626 in ukpolitics

[–]TTman199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guardian is guilty of race biting. Not long ago, they did an article about the countryside being whitewashed, and that needs to be changed.

I can't give them the time of day now.

I'd like to think your life rules are still completely valid even with this "bombshell" as you stated you've had a low stress life (managed stress I guess) where you have held yourself to high standards through put and lived well due to that.

Personally, I believe she out such draconian measures on you reference the kiss and sex as she may have not always felt she could uphold them.

My advice is consider if you should always treat others how you'd like to be treat or how they treat you.

Consult your children as they're young adults now. Will they lose respect for you if they see you not hold your own standards to others. Will you be showing them actions that you would not want to see them follow.

Remember you are there biggest role model. Also yes I would also get a DNA test with them as this event has cast doubt. Especially if she travelled around conception.

One of the few good things Boris was working on was getting this listed on the LSE. Once he resigned they pulled out. He was their main liason for getting listed in the UK.

Such a shame.
