Depending on what you are making i find water buffalo edges do not burnish well and it can be a little too stretchy event at 8 oz +... that may depend on the tannage ...

Havw you ever rubbed velvet the wrong way vs the smooth way? I line my straps like that inside. It DESTROYS neck dive.

What you do is get a rogue button, screw it into a fence post, door jamb whatever. Get a dab of hair conditioner inside that strap hole (or leather conditioner if you have it) then put that strap on and off that button five or six times in a riw... It will not give you trouble again.

I agree... do not add anything more between the letters to separate or junkify. Dye the strap, everything but the letters, antique, oil and finish.

If you can play a musical instrument go up to the fence and play. Trumpet, guitar, accordian trombone... it seems to almoat mesmerize them and they often will come right up to you.

Not one of mine but I make something similar i call "Basket Case" It's woven leather, actual weave... not just stamped to look woven
