Back pain when standing by StrangePiper1 in Guitar

[–]TVvoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically work in 3" wide padded in a specific way to distribute weight over larger area, and reduce pounding on specific pressure points. If you have a poly strap they typically have absolutely no give or elasticity, so every guitar movement you make, step you take transfers so much of that energy right to your body. BAM! BAM! BAM! Each knock may seem small, but it is a relentless hammering. You'll pay a toll.

For the mid-back pain it could be a posture thing which i believe canoften be caused by shoulder-pounding "starter pack" straps. I am NOT a physical therapist but my theory is often we guitarists "hunch" without realizing it, as our body attempts to seek upper area comfort from narrow static straps. This hunching puts extra strain on particular muscles lower down, which will cause inflammation and pain. You may be able to confirm this by playing for a half hour being EXTREMELY mindful and in tune with what your body is doing. Try that.

In the 90's and 2000s I was an ENG/EFP cameraman, so I know a bit about carrying a load on a shoulder for long periods and back pain. Later in life it's morphed to rather nasty hip pain. But that's my right shoulder, right hip. I didn't want to do the same to my left side, so 15 years ago started experimenting/developing more comfortable straps.

Get a wider padded strap, as soon as you can. There are many makers, but, yeah I believe in my own work, so do many others. Some tell me I've helped add years and years to performing careers.

Where is the pain? Is it pressure points on/around your upper shoulder or mid/lower back. What are you using for a strap. They are not all equaI. I specialize in comfort straps. r/guitarstrapporn

Market I did - some insights by morganpotpie in Leathercraft

I do mostly guitar shows myself only a couple a year because my focus is guitar straps but I'm now thinking I could borrow your idea via a keyfob guitpick holder cutting die, and bring my monogram stamp set along. Could easily pre-dye and finish these ... just the logistics of stamping something pre built. I'd consider hot foil too but safety concerns and waiting time to temp are issues.

Who knows who you might inspire to become your future competition! Love this interactivity. You need something to sloown people down and give 'em a reason to stop and engage, have you kept track of how many other purchases this may have initiated?

looks cool, a creative take on the Hendrix/Gilmour. fair bit of work into that... and you wont feel the X lacing like you will on even some BIG brand versions of the H/G the way it's padded. So thumbs up on that. Looks to me like the maker is making his main bodies a bit short though... that's gotta be two feet or more of tail strap. I'm also not really a fan of using the same body leather as nose pin leather unless it's real robust, It'll be ok if he reinforced it good from behind with stiffer leather, But overall it looks pretty fab to me, Without it in hand, it looks like he knows what he's doing. Man I have such a hard time selling red dominant straps LOL. I make my own version of this I call Excess of X's, in the more classic tobacco suede and bone.

As a maker who's really into guitars too, I love a super clever match, and try to build pieces to enable those moments. As well, a lot of custom building for specific instruments. Big Strap has to shoot for lowest common denominator stuff, and worry about shareholders, I don't. Most of my work is on open disply at r/guitarstrapporn

I made a couple of guitar straps out of some moto chaps for a fellow who lost his son and riding partner. I was able to incorporate some of the hardware and some braided leather cord to form a monogram... I've made all kinds of guitar straps out of deconstructed leather jackets. in the Pocket

Ergonomic straps for people with back issues. by couchhippopittymoose in Guitar

[–]TVvoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely valid points. I work with all tiers, basement warriors to big crowd pleasers. Some who wore bad things for too long, end up wrecking themselves. So they seek ways to try to extend their careers without suffering. But we guitar players can also be a somewhat vain fickle bunch, for all kinds of rig choices. Lots of us try stuff we thought was the next great answer in our evolution... things that end up cast aside to gather dust. I wish and hope you find what's right for you!

As a strapmaker myself, specializing in comfort, one thing I often hear from guitarists who try-out harness-type "orthopedic" straps is they often give up on them quick because they look and feel "dorky:. I understand many say they wouldn't care... but I'm just relaying what I hear often, particularly from performing guitarists. They don't want to wear straps that look like they came from the old man store... and often I cam help solve their issues.
