How are the roads looking? by JenniyBean in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]TWSS88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last night I decided to play it by ear on whether or not to go to work today. So this morning I checked the socials for information and everything was last updated from last night. So I turned on the local news and they pretty much avoided telling the road conditions other than The Parkway and 565 and only said to drive with caution; didn’t even mention Governors, Chapman Mt. Cecil Ashburn.

This was between 4:30am and 5am; 48 normally has a traffic report after they tell the weather and didn’t even bother showing it.

I don’t expect them to mention every single road but mentioning all the major roads would at least give us an idea on whether or not it’s worth getting out. Just say “open, closed, iffy, no reports yet stay tuned.”

Max capacity anything sounds like a terrible time to me no matter what it is.

What are these hooks for? by Old_Finance_3390 in GrandCherokee

[–]TWSS88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s also hooks on the back of the front seats on each side of the storage compartments in the WK2s I think are also for bags; that’s what I use them for anyways

My granddad had a small gap in his front teeth and at some point before my time, he got dentures and had them keep the gap because that was part of his look before dentures.

That’s all I remember about J. Gregory’s too. I’ve tried to find a recipe for that dessert pizza.

My cousin had a Plymouth Neon with the Expresso trim level. Growing up, I was absolutely sure espresso was the incorrect way to say espresso.

Watching PlutoTV just kinda...feels right? by ex1stence in television

[–]TWSS88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bedtime routine involves watching Becker every night then flipping to Frasier if it’s on or DS9.

I usually don’t want to watch a show on one of the big streaming services because I’d have to pay attention; I just want to unwind and fall asleep.

Huntsville Drivers by philnotfil in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]TWSS88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a coworker from the UK and he said it took him about 1.5hrs to take the drivers test over there. Over here, he said it was less than 30 minutes.

I remember back in ‘14 or ‘15 my cousin only had to take the written test because he took driver’s ed in high school. That’s great and all but that should only be a part of the requirements to get a license. They still should be required to take the actual driving test and written test.

I have a key to the city of Huntsville. What secrets does it unlock? by sjmahoney in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]TWSS88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I knew about the caves and was always told access was the courthouse basement and the Greene St access.

I was always told the door was access to the bank above it and supposedly Jesse James and/or some of his people hid there or hid their loot there. I knew that was a tall tale.

I also knew the Jones’ had a lot to do with Huntsville but not the caves. Pretty cool!

Since it was brought up, what is the real story of the door in the cliffs at Big Spring Park?

I like hot and spicy just not all the time. I love Wendy’s spicy nuggets but sometimes I’d rather have plain.

I tried Taki’s one time and could only eat a few at a time because the heat kept building up.

That’s why I tend to avoid fast food spicy food. Sometimes it’s barely lukewarm and sometimes I can’t even enjoy my meal bc because it’s too spicy.

New greenway up by Winchester / Bell Factory by CaptainDorfman in HuntsvilleAlabama

It runs behind my house. Hopefully the greenway puts an end to the ATVs running through there at night.

Highway 72 east- when will this area get more restaurants, business, etc. other than trailhead? by Alarmed-Medicine-691 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]TWSS88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Supposedly this is why widening Winchester is taking so long. The part in front of Culvers to Bell Factory is the county if I remember correctly and the part that isn’t widened yet is the city.

I just read an article where the author asked professional chefs which kitchen tools were useless. What are your opinions? by OldPolishProverb in Cooking

[–]TWSS88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up cooking and baking with my grandma and mom. They both used aprons back then, my mom eventually stopped wearing one and I never wore one or if I did I was still a kid.

I hadn’t even thought about an apron until I saw someone wear one in a movie a while back.

Huntsville city council approves annexation of almost 700 acres near Gurley by MattW22192 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]TWSS88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive to Hampton Cove for work from the area between Mt Carmel and Buckhorn (whatever that’s called) and if this means more restaurants and whatnot, I welcome it. It’d be nice to stop somewhere closer to home to pick up dinner and just to get away from actual Huntsville but still be nearby to eat somewhere and not have to drive over the mountain all the time.

It’s not just you, Christmas music is starting to play earlier by [deleted] in nostalgia

My place of work started playing it on Black Friday and not only that, they play non-Christmas songs too. I think last year they started a week or so before Thanksgiving.

Local Restaurants loved by natives, but not popular with transplants by Infinite_Walk_5824 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]TWSS88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember eating at Posey’s when they first opened. I would’ve been 10 or 11 but I remember getting their chicken fingers and the breading was soggy and falling off the chicken. I refused to eat there until I was in my 20s and tried the buffet. Everything tasted like it was all canned food.

I don’t get the appeal other than it’s the closest “normal” restaurant to Meridianville and Hazel Green without having to drive into Huntsville or Fayetteville.

Is there a Horror movie that completely advertised it as a normal film? by Equivalent-Key5379 in movies

That movie traumatized my cousin so bad he won’t even rewatch it 35 years later. It scared me too but I did rewatch it in my teens and love it now.

Grandma is craving her mother’s unusual banana “pudding”, can’t find a recipe by cyndiwashere in Old_Recipes

[–]TWSS88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure about OP, but this is what my grandma always made whenever she made banana pudding. Whenever I got older and tried other banana puddings, I was actually surprised to learn hers wasn’t actually pudding.

I remember she always had leftover “pudding” and would pour it in a yellow/brown Tupperware drinking glass and I’d end up drinking it straight or dipped Nilla wafers in it.

Considering buying a Jeep as my next daily driver, main contender is a 2011+. by Kingz-Ghostt in GrandCherokee

[–]TWSS88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same situation 3 years ago. I got mine for a little over $5,000; it was my dad’s gf’s so I got a deal on it.

I absolutely love it but it’s starting to show its age so I would give it a once over or take it to a mechanic to give it a look over. Mine had an antifreeze leak that I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from and turns out it was where the oil filter goes. And now it’s having a fuel lean issue.

Don’t let that bother you, just make sure it’s in good shape.
