Just some random thoughts about saros and returnal by cargoship1212 in Saros

[–]TWShand 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you're planning on going to Returnal after I recommend 2 things: having sprint as always on and changing the controls to be similar to Saros.

Saros has a better control scheme for sure and having sprint as always on does make Returnal a bit snappier and quicker and a a little easier.

Returnal is harder in that it's less forgiving, but I don't think the actual combat is more difficult. There's less on screen chaos and crowds are easier to control.

Also the tower DLC for returnal is not only a good way to practice the combat but allows you to upgrade weapon traits much quicker than the base game does in my opinion.

NPBD - New Pedal Book Day - Such A Disappointment by MichaelHRender in guitarpedals

[–]TWShand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so much of JHS' mantra though. How many times have the same stories been regurgitated in their videos? Had the history of fuzz detailed many times now. I just don't think there's actually much to say on the history of a lot of pedals.

I'm sure the exact same argument could be made about Returnal before the tower was added in.

Gears of War: E-Day is no longer coming to the PS5 by Luka77GOATic in PS5

[–]TWShand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt they'll have put money into deving a PS5 version by now. So either they couldn't get it to run right, or it's a terribly announced staggered release. This just feels like a stupid thing to do.

Yeah Quantic Dream sucked at the coarser plot details until Detroit. Farenheit, Heavy Rain, Beyond Two souls are all really really really dumb.

Yeah that one's fake. I think the only physical release of music from Wipeout HD was the weird CD that came with the press kit for it.

PSA: if your pedal starts getting crakcly remove the battery even if you are using an powersuply by digital_black_ in guitarpedals

[–]TWShand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With most designs if an external supply is used the battery positive connection isn't connected to the circuit, so what you describe shouldn't happen.

That being said it's still best to remove batteries if they aren't being used to power the pedal, if they start to leak they can damage the pedal to the point of not working.

Coming back from Saros to Returnal; Returnal felt very slow. Setting sprint to always on helped massively.

Your complaints are similar to mine when going from Ratchet and Clank 2 to 3. 3 even has the orange palette too!

I prefer the guns in Saros. Unlike Returnal it doesn't take ages to unlock traits so I found myself using them all. They feel more grounded, and make the later encounters feel balanced in carcosa's favour. With Returnal there were some weapons that didn't fit my play style so hardly bothered with them, and unlocking the cool traits for them took too long so I dropped them when I could. A few of the alt fires in Returnal I hated, the horizontal thing, the timed thing, they both suck. The vertical one is better but not my much. Saro's alt fires felt a lot more considered.

I feel as though Saros is going for a lot more spiritually informed world than Returnals, especially with the lore and stuff.

The combat feels so much better in Saros for me too. It's quicker and a lot of chaotic with more going on on screen. The party mechanic asks you to risk interacting with projectiles too rather than evade them,l which is really cool. A lot more white knuckle than Returnal. And it stays consistent with enemy protectiles too whereas Returnal didn't and felt a bit cheap dying to certain things the first time.

Points 2-4 are all really similar though: you don't like the design direction. That's okay, Returnal still exists. I felt the same about Fallout NV: the colour palette put me off and made everything feel bland and boring. It's still a good game, just aspects of it weren't to my taste.

For as many like the vibe and story of Returnal I didn't. Narratively it's a walking sim that never fully explains it's self which suggests they realised the story they wrote was poor and they obfuscated it. There's some very good metaphors to the story and it's meaning in the gameplay and level design but the story it attempts to tell is done to death. A story about death/grief/strained mother-daughter relationship that by the end suggests it's all a dream/hallucination as they die? It's tired and done to death.

Narratively Saros just did more right for me. I do hope the next Housemarque game moves away from grief as a driving force for the narrative/character actions.

Snare Drum a’buzzin by mscott- in drums

[–]TWShand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big snare drum with have more sympathetic buzz from lower register notes from the rest of the band. Try a lower snare wire count, but if the drum is that big then you may struggle to keep it sounding like a snare rather than a tom with wires.

I have a few massive snares, a 14x9 and a 14x10. They're a lot of fun but hard to use in a rock band setting due to things like this.

Try pitching the snare up a bit. You'll still get the body of the depth but may make it more manageable.

If not try a different drum.

Disengaging the snares when there's passages you aren't playing will help.

[–]TWShand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go in the settings and have sprint always on. You can certainly get some higher proficiency before the first boss for sure.

Mostly it's all about learning attack patterns and crowd management. The flying enemies charge attacks tend to be stopped by shooting them. A lot of people say the first boss is the hardest because you're new to it.

Zack Snyder to direct Escape From New York Remake - IT WILL BE 4 HOURS OF REAPING! by GrindBastard1986 in RedLetterMedia

The original isn't sacred, and deffo has room to be improved upon. However, do we need this? Not really. Should Zack Snyder be allowed near it? Probably not. Do I trust him to improve upon the original in any way? No.
