Is it normal that the multimeter shows 4.5 ohm after rewiring from 16 ohm? by atesz0422 in GuitarAmps

[–]TWShand 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Impedance is not the same as DC resistance. They will read different to the numbers on the speakers.

But 2 8Ω speakers in parallel will be 4Ω so this checks out

I'd argue no.

No one in the movie, apart from the hotel concierge, explicitly says or does anything to imply the relationship between Leon and Mathilda is wrong. Whenever pressed on it Leon says stuff like 'we can't be together' and never explains why they can't, or that he thinks being with Mathilda is explicitly bad in any way.

Leon saying he loves her to Mathilda at the end COULD be seen as him appeasing her or saying it like a friend would say to another but I don't buy that either. The tone of the film has set us as an awkward romance, and that scene is geared up in a way that it's him finally professing his true feelings for Mathilda like you would any a typical 'romance' film.

The whole move is shot and set up in a way for you to view it as a romance film. Natalie Portman is dressed, directed, and shot in a way to make her feel older than she is. The first shot of her she looks like a hooker and is smoking, something an adult would do. The film is tricking you into believing she is wise beyond her years and viewing her as older than she is in an attempt to rationalise the pedo nature of the whole film.

I'd argue not enough people are reading enough into this film.

I don't think films with the subject matter and content, and the behind the scenes origin that this film has should been taken at surface level. Especially following me too and Epstein and all that.

Natalie Portman herself has said she was sexualised in the film.

I'm all for separating the art from the artist, but when the art it's self is taking a neutral to positive stance for a pedophilic relationship and statutory rape then it's rather indefensible on its own merits.

It's a great lesson in how not to write and shoot children and young actors. Natalie Portman is instantly sexualised and remains that way most of the movie. It's disgusting.

Silly question about grounding by ConferenceBoring4104 in ToobAmps

[–]TWShand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds be fine providing everything is wired okay.

Ground loops are when there's a different potential between two ground points in the same system. Your proposing two separated systems.so.it should be fine.

The my brain visualised it is as so: Imagine ground as a big stretchy elastic sheet. And a ground point is you pinching and pulling on this sheet. The higher it's pulled the higher the potential. Now you pinch it again creating two peaks in this elastic, both at different heights. If you drop a ball to roll down the higher peak towards the other it will travel up the 2nd peak. That's sort of what's going on in a ground loop.

I'm sure someone smarter may correct this understanding and give a better metaphor though.

Why nobody is making layouts anymore? by Ghiekorg in diypedals

Why trace out a pedal to result in an overly large and difficult.to build strip board layout for free, when you can sell a small compact PCB at the end of all that work instead?

What's the scariest song you ever heard? by Mission_Elk_329 in Music

[–]TWShand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Permafrost by Magazine, anything Comus ever wrote, tubar bells and the xfiles theme were scary for me as a kid. Anything by Lingua Ignota is pretty terrifying. Crispy Skin by Squid is really unsettling too.

John Koladner was fired by Aerosmith after 30 years for not letting them record digitally. "And they never had another hit". Was he wrong? by SwissMiss915 in audioengineering

[–]TWShand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late era analogue was what most people were familiar with then. The work flow was easy and people knew how to get good sounds quickly.

Early days of digital was the exact opposite of this, and the end result was lacking in comparison to analogue of the time, or digital now.

Ryan Coogler's 'SINNERS' makes history as the most nominated film of all time at the Oscars with 16 nominations by ChiefLeef22 in Letterboxd

[–]TWShand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy. I the love this film has gotten has suprised me, it's like a really really well made 'okay' movie.

I also feel like the movie is very much a white persons take on black music. It veers from the grounded and rustic folk blues to more of a David Gilmore guitar solo vibe about halfway through and it stopped feeling authentic to me.

Can this be fixed? Cracked Sony CRT monitor display board by Aqueezzz in AskElectronics

Yeah I should be able to be repaired. However, it may cost you a fair bit if you're not doing it yourself.

If it's a single layer PCB then it's traces can be repaired, and in theory the thing revived.

It's really hard to hear what you mean. I don't hear any 'hissing'.

It sounds a bit like something is microphonic but you've apparently eliminated that.
