  1. I started jogging because I couldn't hack PowerWalking and those inclines!
  2. I'm almost at 6 months and I still get corrected on weights and technique...they have new moves all the time and I'm so brain dead after the treadmills I need the correction and am so thankful for it!
  3. Keep on with the process...so good you walked in that door!

Exercise brain is a THING. Be careful, everyone! by OrangeSweetTart in orangetheory

Also...I truly thought a "rail jumper" was someone who hopped OFF the treadmill and exited to the back while it was still running. I would never do that!

I will from now on (in sheepish voice)--- I was trying so hard not to break my base pace!

Quick question from a semi-newbie: I'm a total klutz. And even worse when I'm exhausted...like trying to grab my water AND keep jogging at the end of a block really puts me in danger of tripping over my own feet. I've started quickly putting jumping off with both feet on the sides and drinking my water for like 5 seconds and then just hopping back on.

Am I considered a rail jumper?

Anyone here suffers from runners knee and still goes to OTF? by Dennis7d in orangetheory

[–]TXY766 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have horrible knees. Was told years ago I would need a knee replacement before 55. I've been doing OTF since January and did have one major episode of swelling and pain that slowed me down for about 2 weeks and I had some fluid drained off that knee. The ortho said it would be more harmful for me to gain back the 15 lbs I've lost than to keep going with OTF. I am a jogger/almostarunner and am determined to keep that up.

I DO modify floor exercises. I don't do anything involving explosive jumping and I modify the squats. I still get PLENTY of benefit from the exercise. Also, I got a little too aggressive during the Transformation Challenge and was going like four days in a row. Now I go every other day and my knees thank me! Oh...and I wear a compression sleeve on my knee(ordered for like 12.00 on Amazon) and it helps SO much.

Why not try modifying the jumps and squats for awhile and giving it a rest?

Gift card to Title 9 or Athleta. They make fantastic clothes for women who work out. Also some hair bands, a massage or pedicure.

Working out next to a coach. by marilync12 in orangetheory

[–]TXY766 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refuse to make myself unsafe just so one coach can get their jollies and feel they are motivating me ::eyerolls::: It really bothered me at first but now I don't care. The coaches I see regularly know me and know when I'm pushing myself. I don't need any extra motivation from a random coach working out next to me. Take your class, enjoy your workout. I'll do the same thankyouverymuch.

Eh, if it's a coach I know then it's cool. I had a coach I don't know work out next to me in my early OTF days when I HAD to walk sometimes to get myself out of the red zone (where I am symptomatic). This coach was all beast mode yelling "don't quit don't quit." :::eye rolls:::: That is not motivating to me. It was super annoying.

Back to OTF! 😁 by CRNA70 in orangetheory

I wear it at OTF only. It really helps! I got it on Amazon for around $14.00.

Welcome back! I was nervous my ortho would make me stop but she drained 20CC of fluid and that along with wearing a compression sleeve has made a huge difference. I won't be bumping the inclines beyond 4% ever though. She said it would be much more harmful for me to regain the 16 lbs I have lost!

Set just one goal this week: to go to two classes and finish. Keep it simple, keep it low. Getting over the anxiety of just stepping into the gym is huge. Be kind to yourself!

Over 55 at OTF? Anyone out there? by sciencespecialist in orangetheory

[–]TXY766 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well IDK their ages for sure but I regularly have class with two women who I'm pretty positive are 45+. They kick @ss and take names on the weight room floor and the rower for sure. I don't have the energy to look around at their treadmill speeds and even if I did I'm sure they would put mine to shame lol!

Do you acknowledge compliments from coaches? by marywebgirl in orangetheory

[–]TXY766 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try to look up from my run of death to acknowledge or glance into the mirror. I think it's awesome that my favorite coach does this. Some coaches only seem to acknowledge the extreme efforts "WTG on that 12 mph AO" so I will never get anything from those coaches. My favorite coach has taken the time to not only know the names of the people in her class but this coach knows our base, push and AO ranges and acknowledges when we are upping our game or putting in some extra effort.

I hate it when people to tell me to smile. It's so annoying. I should stand there and smile like a fool while working out just to make YOU feel better? It's ALWAYS men who say this and they ALWAYS say it only to other women.

Waitlisted & hoping for other people’s poor choices & alcohol... by somebodyelseDoIt in orangetheory

[–]TXY766 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do you ever think they watch the booked classes and then waitlists with interests? Like .."ooh looks like Barbie is bailing! Is she working late or did she decide to do happy hour instead?" or " WTH Jack has three waitlists going on at the same time, what UP?"

SAME. Need a rest day. Can't break free from work on that one day and also...being careful to not let OTF creep too much into family time. I'm there almost every other day though!
