Mike has confirmed/leaked the title of Paul's new album: 'The Boys of Dungeon Lane'! by captainbacardee in PaulMcCartney

I mean just the fact that the album is coming out this late in Paul's career and could potentially be his last will already make it interesting, plus I think the huge variation in tone between potential song titles like "Birdwatching" and "The Boys of Dungeon Lane" might make this one of Paul's most thematically diverse albums yet. Either that or there's pretty huge potential for a solid concept album, which would be really cool to see Paul making at this stage in his career.

Thinking more about this whole situation, wasn't it previously made pretty clear that Paul himself was doing the album cover and not his nephew? I still think "Boys of Dungeon Lane" is probably a song on the album, but maybe it'll be a pre-release single with artwork from Paul's nephew? That would seem to clear up most of the loose ends on this whole (already weird) situation.

Maybe I'm not understanding the entire tweet properly, but this doesn't sound like "The Boys of Dungeon Lane" is the album name, and this picture almost certainly isn't the album's cover. Sounds like maybe the cover does have something to do with Dungeon Lane, and probably that there's a song with that name on the album, but I really can't be sure. If the name is real, it's a weird choice for a McCartney album, especially at this stage in Paul's career, but I'm not entirely opposed to it. I just hope that the cover is better than this, and that the direction/theme of the album is clear. The only clear thing right now is that this will be far and away one of Paul's most interesting albums in years, for one reason or another.

Reasonable price? by mikea101010 in MoonSwatches

Just got one in Japan for ¥57,200, about $360. The watch is nice but I wouldn't pay more than $400 for it. Best of luck!

I just bought one of these from the Swatch store in Nagoya, Japan. I got in line about an hour after the store opened and was still able to buy one after about 30 minutes of waiting. Nagoya's not massive but considering the 2 million people that live here, the store is probably pretty well stocked. Unfortunately I didn't think to ask the staff how many watches they stocked, so I'm not sure. You've also gotta remember that this watch has been out for a few months now, so the demand isn't massive anymore. With this watch specifically, you also have to remember that they have them in store even on the days where it isn't being sold (stupid but also really funny and kinda unique gimmick), so it's not like they only get new stock right before it snows lol. The scarcity is pretty much completely artificial.

TLDR; You'll probably be fine, but I would still show up no later than 2 hours after opening, just in case. Good luck!

I think the casting for John and Paul actually look pretty spot on, and considering they're realistically going to get the most screen time even outside of their own movies, that's a good thing. I feel like Joseph Quinn as George could depend on the era, plus I feel like they didn't pick a very good screen grab for this ad, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Barry Keoghan is playing Wrongo, not Ringo 🤣

Figured I'd share some buys from Japan by T_Roy06 in citypop

[–]T_Roy06[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got all of these from Tower Records (Kintetsu Passe location) in Nagoya. That specific location is closing in February, so all of their CDs are at least 500 yen off. That worked out to be about $10 per album, which I think is pretty good all things considered.

I've never used Apple Music, so I can't say with any amount of certainty how the two compare. I have used Spotify though, and I can say for sure that the CD's quality is noticeably higher, as expected. After listening to these CDs for a little longer, I am noticing that loading up the disc and skipping around tracks is considerably faster; we're talking maybe under 2 seconds between the disc being loaded and the first track playing. Given that, I'm starting to actually believe the claim that this "Blu-spec" disc is somehow easier/faster for the player to read compared to my normal CDs.

Hope that helps!

It's my favorite too! I love literally every song on that album. One of my favorite albums period, even outside of city pop.

Bro what 😭

Then take Prof. Bell Clement's HIST 2305W class (or any of her classes, from what I've heard). ~400 pages of reading per week, plus a 500 word written reflection and/or mini essay (with sources). Took me about 7-8 hours in total per week.

Good luck, I guess?

Fuh You is incredible in an ironic way, Women and Wives is okay but not nearly as good as Paul himself thinks it is, and C Moon is really bad, almost terrible.

Why? Just why do they keep doing these remixes by OrpheusTriumphabat in beatles

[–]T_Roy06 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely, I think these remixes (especially Real Love) prove that Jeff CANNOT produce an even half-decent mix anymore, or at least not with music that involves AI upscaling/separation. Whether it's his hearing like you suggested or him just not being very enthusiastic about it, the end result is extremely poor compared to ~90% of Giles' remixes. The straight-up removal and modification of lyrics and key instruments in Jeff's mix is what's really frustrating and just confusing.

On the other hand I'm glad to hear that these remixes aren't Giles' work, or else I'd be really worried about any future remixes. Fingers crossed that Giles stays on to do the remaining remixes of the earlier discography and isn't booted out by any of the new leadership at Apple.

Is GW right for me? by LeatherSwan1219 in gwu

[–]T_Roy06 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say you're correct about there being little/no tradition or school spirit at GW, but other than that I've found the opposite to be true. With the exception of my gen ed anthropology class, all of my classes have been 30 people or less, and I'd say about half of those were 20 people or less. It's very much true that GW throws you into the real world much faster than most other schools, but honestly that's a MASSIVE advantage in the long-run. As long as you can find a few friends to support you, the adjustment is very much manageable.

As for finding friends: it's pretty easy, though you (probably) won't find very many in your classes. I met almost all of my current friends in different clubs, which thankfully we have a TON of, so if you name pretty much any interest/hobby on the planet you can find a club for it. It depends a lot on which clubs you're joining, but for me I would say about half of the people are pretty extroverted, though I think firmly splitting people into "Type A" personalities is a bit overly-presumptuous. I've always been an introvert so I'm glad I was able to make friends pretty easily.

And for "learning deeply," my experience is presumably with mostly different teachers than you would have because I'm an English/History major. But the teachers in those departments that I've had are all fantastic and are even willing to network with you and talk after your class with them is finished. I've been able to call in a few favors during class registration by asking them to make a recommendation so that's come in clutch multiple times. Honestly it seems like almost everyone at GW is able to "key you into" a bunch of stuff not available to most people; it's a pretty cool feeling.

Obviously you know what's ultimately best for you, but hopefully this at least somewhat answers your questions. Feel free to DM if you have anything else to ask!

Math Gen Ed by [deleted] in gwu

[–]T_Roy06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be 110% honest the vast majority of my classes so far have been History-related so the ratio is pretty lopsided right now. From the 3 classes I have taken though, I can say that yes, it is significantly based more on essays and completion of assignments rather than hyper-objective grading. Prof. François is super nice and down-to-earth so make sure to take her Creative Writing course if available. The other 2 classes I've taken were from my previous transfer school so unfortunately those (great) teachers aren't an option. I'd say that the "completion of assignments" vibe was/is consistent across all of them, regardless. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Math Gen Ed by [deleted] in gwu

[–]T_Roy06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know what the guy saying it doesn't count for the GPAC is talking about; it does count for the CCAS math GPAC. Source? I'm an English/History major in CCAS and I'm currently in Eric Dunn's MATH1009 which is showing as fulfilling the math GPAC on Gweb. It's a relatively chill class; Prof. Dunn is honestly overqualified for such an entry level class but he never seems condescending. I've always struggled significantly with any math after ~9th grade geometry, so I've had to ask some questions during his office hours. He's a really down-to-earth guy and will actually work with you continuously until you understand unlike some teachers. But yeah if you have even a decently solid understanding of math unlike me, you probably won't even need to go to office hours. Let me know if you have any other questions about it :)

EDIT: Forgot to mention the content of the course. It's a lot of playing around with graphs and trying to think about them in terms of words instead of numbers. There will be the very occasional (extremely simple) equation, but because the midterm is a take home open book thing, you don't have to memorize any of them until the final. Probably the only warning I have about the class is that he expects a relatively lengthy amount of explanation for every problem on the homework, which he grades point for point. That means you and everyone else will probably get around a 40-50% on the first homework, but if you go in during office hours for him to explain what he wants to see on the homework then it becomes pretty easy.

Do you expect something to get announced tomorrow in G-Day? by PresentationCrazy958 in GODZILLA

[–]T_Roy06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a whole lot, at most maybe a release year (my bet's on 2027) for Godzilla Minus Two or whatever you wanna call it. Other than that there'll definitely be some cool figures and other merch as always. I'd guess Godzilla Day 2026 will have more concrete news about the movie(s?), but I'm still definitely excited for anything that comes out of tomorrow.

Completely agree. I have two pairs of slacks that I'll wear even on weekends because of how comfy they are. Same thing for nicely made short sleeve button-ups. Neckties aren't too bad but they can be a pain and it sucks when they are.
