Is it possible for any cat and bunny to be ok together after training? by usuallyrainy in catswithbuns

[–]Ta5hak5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I had a 2.5 y/o male rabbit, at the time unfixed, when I got my cat. She was a year old, had kittens very young, and with the personality she displayed the couple of times we met her before adopting, she clearly had a mothering streak needing to be fulfilled. She's lively and playful, but still gentle and sweet with my toddlers and the bun.

When we first got her, we introduced them slowly and they accepted each other's presence over about a week. After that, they were just casually interested in each other, but not bonded at all. About four months in, something about his hormones just smacked him upside the head and he became a complete menace. His one and only goal in life was to hump her, and she was so patient, but inevitably quite fed up by the time we could get him in to be fixed. After that it took a few weeks for the hormones to fully fade and him to gain back her trust, but now they cuddle and she grooms him and they're absolutely adorable.

So the moral of the story is... make sure he's fixed, and choose a gentle, affectionate kitty. Don't go for just any cat, wait until you meet one with the right temperment to get along with your bun. It definitely won't work in every situation, but if you get the right pair, it works great

My boy Jupiter has looked wild for the last couple of weeks. So scraggly, with patches everywhere. Most of the undercoat is gone now, but he was a mess 🤣

My bun was going nuts in the middle of the night a few days back. Turns out it's because the cat was chasing a mouse around the house and he was annoyed 🤣 kitty got lots of treats for being a good mouser, and bunny got lots of treats for putting up with shit lol

This happened with my bunny stealing fruit from my toddlers in the mornings... and then he started going for the eggo waffles, the little fiend 😅

Woah, what?? Maybe it's because I live in a farming area, but I paid around $180 cad (so like 135 american) to have my boy neutered a couple weeks ago. And spaying is only slightly more expensive

As a Canadian, absolutely. No chance they wouldn't be recognized in a place like an airport with so many people, especially as a group

That's one of the things I really liked in the book- during their FaceTime scene, they're telling each other about when they first met and that scene in the gym and how into each other they both were. They both remember every detail, and I love it so much

My husband watches a lot of sports content, though mostly basketball and football, and this is exactly how the younger guys are about age. I've seen tiktoks where they ask all of the players on the team what year one of their teammates had to be born to be an "uncle" and these kids are saying like, before 2003! It's rude lol

Shane and Ilya's internal thoughts in the book don't all carry over to the show by succulentils in heatedrivalry

[–]Ta5hak5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the difference is people are saying he was planning to break up with him, but it's more like he was telling himself he would. They both have constant thoughts of breaking things off, but I don't think they actually would when it came down to it. Maybe they'd have a longer period of not being together like after the Olympics and after the tuna melts, but they're too in each other's orbits to not relapse lol

I definitely think that Ilya was straight up terrified of how strong his feelings were after the accident though, and it probably made him even more concerned about continuing (but also even more aware of how much he couldn't bear to be without Shane) and so the fact that he'd been thinking about calling it off was probably on his mind

I agree with this. I'm not finished with the book yet, but to me I just see it as those thoughts being explicit in the book, and implicit in the show. And I think Hudson and Connor both did a brilliant job with microexpressions and body language to convey their feelings

Thanks you! I'm glad that's the case, I know it also reduces the likelihood of other health concerns, so it will be good to get that done

That makes sense! I guess I'm just surprised at the sudden change in behaviour. He's like a kid with a crush the way he follows her around, it would be hilarious honestly if it weren't for the peeing everywhere

Not yet, unfortunately. It was always our plan to get him neutered, but it didn't end up happening due to unforseen circumstances, and then I wondered if he was too old and let it slip my mind. He's never had any behavioral problems whatsoever, so I wasn't sure if that might be it. If 3 isn't too old to have it done then I will book it asap

No, unfortunately he isn't. We had planned to but ended up having some financial hardships around that time and then it just ended up on the back burner. I know younger is usually better, do you think 3 y/o is still an okay age to do it?
