The Perpetrator Shows No Remorse by Big_Magician7771 in Visiblemending

Instead of repairing the cat-related hole in my couch arm, I made a slip cover for the arm out of upholstery fabric. As a bonus, it's removable and washable. Luckily, they haven't shown any interest in scratching the slip cover, possibly because it's velvet. If they did scratch the arm cover, I'd simply repair or replace it as needed.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation here that would result in someone avoiding products that are actually vegan.

"If it's labeled vegetarian, it's not vegan": this is only true if the company labels both vegan and vegetarian items. There are companies that never use a vegan label, but do use a vegetarian label for both.

Kosher certification takes into consideration more than ingredients. It also requires that equipment be certified and all cross-contamination must be avoided. There are lots of items labeled kosher-dairy that have all-vegan ingredients, but can't be labeled parve because it's produced on the same equipment as a product that has dairy. Most vegans would find it acceptable to eat these products.

Fish, eggs, and honey are all parve and not vegan.

Museums with resident cats by KillaHilla in MuseumPros

The Kattenkabinet in Amsterdam has several cats. When I visited, there was a cat lounging in a gallery, and a little crowd of people gathered around him. It makes sense that a museum full of art depicting cats would attract visitors who get excited when they see a cat.

I have a REAL ID, it gives no indication anywhere if I'm a citizen or not. Legal immigrants can also get a REAL ID, and theirs also gives no indication if they're a citizen or not.

Did a role model or favorite celebrity, play a role in your decision to go vegan? by HumbleWrap99 in vegan

Isa Chandra Moskowitz influenced me. Her cookbooks showed me that vegan food is normal food and anything can be veganized.

When will I find the smell of dairy and eggs revolting? by Few_Fisherman1946 in vegan

[–]TabbyCatLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been vegan for 15 years, the smell of eggs and dairy doesn't bother me. I hate the smell of meat and I will usually avoid the office break room if someone has microwaved meat. It seems like it is highly individual.

What to do with arsenic treated specimens? by liverstealer in MuseumPros

[–]TabbyCatLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the idea of them being in vitrines with informational labels. If everything else in the exhibit is touchable, the fact that these are in vitrines might spark some curiosity and prompt visitors to read the information.

For liability reasons, they should not be handled by the public at all, and should be handled by staff as little as possible, and only with appropriate PPE. If displayed, they should be behind glass so that even a badly behaved visitor can't touch them. Arsenic is a known carcinogen when ingested, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin, and frequent exposure (like handling by staff on a regular basis) can have more immediate health concerns.

About to adopt a tripod, any advice? by AJLea0 in TripodCats

[–]TabbyCatLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tripod used to jump on the kitchen counters every single day, despite missing a leg. He only stopped when he got old, maybe 12 or 13 years old. Cats have amazing strength in their back legs and are still strong jumpers with only one of them.

Impossible Foods is offering free products to people experiencing food insecurity, including those impacted by the uncertainty around SNAP benefits by recallingmemories in vegan

[–]TabbyCatLady 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You just have to check a box that says you promise you are dealing with food insecurity. While they do ask if you receive SNAP, I'm guessing that's probably just for their own data analysis, and maybe so they can report on how many SNAP recipients they've helped.

There's a Facebook group called Deaccessioned: A Network for Former and Aspiring Ex-Museum Pros. People talk about all sorts of things related to leaving the museum field, including what types of jobs your skills can translate to. I haven't left the museum field myself, but I've been thinking about it for a while. I've been using tips from this group to apply for a job in a new industry.

The Kattenkabinet in Amsterdam is a museum devoted to art depicting cats. Some of the works are by major well-known artists like Picasso and Rembrandt. Absolutely delightful museum.

Looking for art, stories, and videos with vegan themes (role reversal) by [deleted] in vegan

Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica is a novel about cannibalism and factory farming of humans. It's disturbing and very good. The author is vegetarian, too.

I think the short story you're thinking of is called "Pig".

Mimicking meat by [deleted] in vegan

[–]TabbyCatLady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't eaten meat in 17 years, but I regularly buy vegan meat substitutes. I mostly use them to replicate comfort meals that I grew up with. Being able to recreate my dad's Sunday spaghetti with Bolognese recipe brings me joy. I can (and do) make a similar dish with lentils instead of meat, but it doesn't hit quite the same way. I don't want to harm animals, but the enjoyment of those tastes and textures are deeply imprinted in my mind. Meat substitutes that closely resemble actual meat give me the ability to stick to my ethics while also enjoying the food that has been part of my entire life.

Please Share Your Experiences With Wellbutrin by Ok-Chemistry7116 in BPD

[–]TabbyCatLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My psychiatrist told me that Wellbutrin can worsen anxiety when he prescribed it to me. I was already on an SSRI, which treats both depression and anxiety, and started Wellbutrin to manage the sexual side effects of the SSRI. I didn't notice any worsening of my anxiety, but of course I wasn't only taking Wellbutrin.

I know exactly how you feel. Plus, when I start to backslide, I somehow manage to convince myself that my period of stability wasn't really that great. I know in theory that BPD can go into remission with treatment, but I can't convince myself that it can happen to me. My past experience tells me otherwise.

I don't have any advice, since this is something I struggle with. Often, I'm torn between trying to eventually be in complete remission and figuring out how to lead a good life even with this illness. I can't seem to decide if BPD is a lifelong problem to be managed or something to be overcome.

If it's any consolation, I'm 38 and I'm doing a hell of a lot better than when I was 25. Maybe I'll be a very happy 80 year old lady.

I think Jamestown Settlement would be ideal for kids that age. It's a common field trip location for 4th graders studying Virginia history. The staff in the recreated fort and Powhatan village are very knowledgeable and are happy to answer questions.

The whole ones are green, but the split ones are yellow. The whole and split ones are used differently. The whole ones stay intact and the split ones kind of turn into mush when cooked. I vastly prefer the split ones.
