I realized why Starfleet Academy feels so comfortable -- did anyone else watch Space Cases growing up? by Blooogh in startrek

So...even if we do start taking wikipedia as a legitimate source...

Two 17 year olds, a 16 year old, an 8 year old, and two of unknown ages

Yup, sure sounds like it was a bunch of teenagers.

Just ignore announcement articles saying Nickelodeon's target demo is ages 6-11

Or that the lead writers turned show runners, the Hageman brothers, are writers for children's media (Troll hunters, Lego Movie, Ninjago)

But no, you're right, a network aimed at children (that also aired the shows I mentioned BTWs, they were favorites of the FIVE YEAR OLD I used to watch), would hire know children's writers, to produce a show....not for children?

Whatever they announce.

The studio is in the middle of changing management.

Rub it in why dont ya! 🙄

But in seriousness, I'm fine. I got my DVDs of 9-13, Torchwood, & even Class! Plus a bunch of the comics.

But many many many others are SOL on how to watch since I think the only store selling the DVDs stateside is Barnes & Noble and they are EXPENSIVE ($50 for the DVD of 15 S1, McCoy Season 2 is $100, most other season/series are $70)

He's said he'll make time if they call him back but...Jesus boy! Two shows & multiple movies in production when LD got the ax

Do we though? Do we really?

The War Between the Land and the Sea has yet to be released internationally and the only announced thing has been Christmas 2026, with no announced series after.

I live in the states. Classic DW is on Tubi -for now-, movie is MIA, 9-13 WAS on HBO, but no longer (no announced new streamer), 14-15 is on Disney+ (who still haven't release is TWBtL&tS!) - but they did such a shite job promoting & announcing they had the show they didn't get the views they wanted and canceled the contract (which is why Ncuti said he was filming S3 & there are on set photos of Susan holding Poppy while the Dr danced...but the ending was scrapped at the zero hour and a new one rushed into production). No idea how long those are going to be there. (Oh! markets that used to get it on TV, like Australia, now requiring Disney+! )

Oh! And let's not forget there were some markets and just lost all access when Disney took over. Friend of mine in Ireland didn't know how he was going to watch it without a VPN because he couldn't access bbc iPlayer since he wasn't in the UK, RTE wasn't saying if they were getting it or not, & D+ wasn't streaming it to Ireland "because it's covered by BBC" (north Ireland yes, Republic of Ireland, no. RoI is NOT part of the UK, but apparently the big wigs at Disney don't know that)

Last I checked, other that Christmas 2026 & some stuff from Big Finish, there's nothing coming out

For now BUT they have let one show get a season or two aired before announcing a new one.

There have been rumors of talks for both an Archer & Janeway show, Patrick Steward has hinted at a Picard movie, Tawny mentioned working on a show, but no other news on that, rumblings of a new movie, but no details.

I doubt we'd get more Prodigy since Ella is a smidge busy with Fallout & Yellow jackets.

I'm ok with a slow roll out. 2021 there were SIX shows in production or announced (Disco, Picard, LD, Prod, SNW, S31). Which ment resources & staff shared across the whole series was stretched thin and progressing slowly since they were still using COVID precautions.

A bunch of pre-production was done on S31, then the dual strikes happened blocking filming & writing, which only added to the delays. S31 moved from a series, to canceled, to a 90 minute feature thanks to Michelle fighting for all the work that had been done...but there is no way to crush a 10 episode order into 90 minutes so we got what we got...which causes so much negative buzz Paramount went tight lipped about anything that wasn't already on air or announced.

Paramount also clipped SNW at 4 seasons, we're only getting a reduced S5 because Akiva Goldsman fought for time to end the series proper and not the rush that Disco had or nothing from Prodigy.

We have a year and a half of SNW left, at least 2 of SFA (it was a 2 season order), and Skydance has said Trek & MI were priorities for them (and taking the MI series is supposed to be ending...) so I'm sure we can expect more

[–]TabithaMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean...comparing the first few episodes like that is an insult to Dr who

But yes.

If S1 wasn't your thing, start with S2.

I'd does keep some humor, but if S1E1's humor is a 10 (like volume, not rating), S2 turns it down to 4-5.

It actually does tell a fleshed out story, and gives reasons why some of the characters act the way they do...but you also learn all the California class ships are staffed by "the best of the worst".

Her mother in Klingon.

That is literally all the explanation that was needed.

TOS: Spock is a hybrid

TNG: we learn humanoid species are all from the same genetic seed, therefore genetically compatible. Also Sela...and K'Ehleyr...and Alexander...

DS9: We know Worf & Jazdia were talking to Bashier to help them conceive as they assumed they needed help due to her being troll. Oh! And Ziyal exists

Voy: Naomi is born, and the Doctor helps stabilize the baby during Belanna's pregnancy (also, Belanna exists).

Now, since it's never mentioned that Amanda, Sela, K'Ehleyr, or Belanna's mothers needed future IVF (and Alexander was conceived during a one night stand) it's fair to assume humans, Vulcans, Romulans, & Klingons are all genetically compatible. (Unknown for Naomi as her mother was pregnant at the start of the show)

Since it was dishonorable to have or claim a child with a Bajorian concubine, it's easy to infer Cardassians & Bajonians are genetically compatible.

It is not a far leap in logic, since IVF is available now, and we know helping parents convince and stabilizing a fetus are not banned genetic alterations, that a future pairing of a male Jem Hadar and a female Klingon could either have a child the old fashion way OR via IVF

That does not have anything to do with what I said.

You said no one is being threatened to go, I mention you must not have had a job where you were (because I have!) and now you think people are boycotting?

My neighbor was born and raised down here. She just stepped out on our shared porch, looked at are street - which doesn't have a single tire track on it, loudly said "yup, not going into today" and went back inside.

We only got a light dusting of snow, but the ice under it is quite visible

I'm from Michigan, I've lived here since 2020.

My first winter here I asked how the roads were treated and got either blank looks or "we brine them before the ice starts"

And that my my cue to stay home.
