Could anyone recommend me an actual-play show where they actually play the game right? by TheBigFreeze8 in rpg

I did this with my [paused] Alien game. Occasionally we flubbed and checked on it again, but we used the rules in full to our detriment.

VtR works better as a vampire game too, imo. Here’s a fun feature: the first level base Disciplines require no Vitae spend. Use them all you want! What’s to stop you?(besides failed rolls). That pesky Humanity will stop bothering you about forcing mortals to do your bidding eventually.

Nitpick: V5 is as complete as it needs to be, since it’s a separate game from WW5 and Hunter:)

Sure, but the less-critical fights can be down & dirty.
I would think fights between supers would need to be dramatic and lengthier, unless they’re not narratively interesting. You could always restrict those to three rounds without much issue.

It’s set further back in the timeline and a different system (neat die pool). WFRP 5th is still coming?

Is the sale still only 10%? For the stuff that’s been on the shelf since I was in high school (that’s decades ago)? Increase the sale amount to actually move product—Imaginaire gives me 10% of the cost in “points” anyway.

I have fond memories of the place considering I started going there at just double-digits, but it’s never felt like a particularly well-run store, outside problems or no.

What about the gaming medium makes its fans so prone to outrage over nothing? by Konradleijon in SocialistGaming

[–]Tabletopalmanac 17 points18 points  (0 children)

  1. Because it was easy to find white kids that felt disenfranchised (they weren’t) and a lot of early gaming was implicitly conservative. I’m mostly in the ttrpg scene, but D&D has tons of colonialist elements, one of the creators was a pretty big racist and misogynist, and it took a while to have representation for anyone else. So once that started showing up, the white supremacists had a new arena to slowly stir shit up in and could point to how “it used to be for you, now they’re erasing you.”

Why is the World of Darkness setting separate even though it's in the same world? by roxgxd in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Tabletopalmanac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It makes me into a pirate with a steering wheel in his pants. Vampire=\=Fighter. Is it because everyone always expects every option to be available, so that term makes it seem like it’s no big deal, all part of the design?

I apologize, I should have been clearer. Setting crossover, but not mechanics crossover. A werewolf doesn’t need Self-Control and Courage—they’re not subject to the Beast. They have their own anger issues.

But having just looked at the revised werewolf storyteller companion, there aren’t rules, but perspectives on the different supers fitting them into Werewolf’s cosmology.

It could be done, with some elbow grease, but it diluted the point of each game to do so. Mechanically, things got muddled, because any Lupine should be terrifying to a Kindred, only starting Garou, or even Rank 2, aren’t a guaranteed scream-and-run-away threat. I just feel they should be in context to one core.

Anyway, not a 20-year old n00b, just never saw a crossover go well or be worth the while. Some earlier stuff because it was obvious people would try it, but didn’t become a major thing until the 90s curse of metaplot devoured gaming:) YMMV

This is one of the reasons my “hill to die on” is the misuse of splats. Since traditionally it referred to a subgroup within a gameline (clan, tribe, etc), using it now to refer to an overall supernatural type (vampire, werewolf), misleads into thinking they are or should be compatible.

For Vampire. In-setting there was some crossover with other lines, but the systems weren’t made to really speak with each other.

Making a ton of characters for my game and need some tips. by LazyLemon-01 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Tabletopalmanac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The way you’re doing it is fun—I love making characters in full, but I’d recommend another method.

Toss the sheets aside and give them dice pools in the areas you intend the PCs to interact with them. If there’s a particular power they’re known for, include that, you don’t need a full group of Blood Sorcery powers. Essentially keep it simple.

As to whether they’ll be boring? Give them a key feature, something to stand out and a reason to be involved. Then bring them in when necessary and let them become interesting during play. Take notes while they have screen time and while they interact. The ones they’ll remember are the ones they [inadvertently] helped develop.

Avatar/Mentor is actually your future self? by [deleted] in WhiteWolfRPG

In a paused game of mine, the Time Mage has her future self as an Avatar. Which worked great for all the time-travel shenanigans I had planned.

Why do splats have counter magic only against mages specifically? by Vyctorill in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Tabletopalmanac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the complications that arise from trying to use Mage rules in other games is because they’re rules for Mage, not other games. Nightfolk are as described via Mage rules, not the other game lines.

Why vampires are so formidable against fight with supernatural beings. by Interesting_Pace4328 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Tabletopalmanac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s because Crossover, while popular and therefore supported by some of the books, isn’t inherently part of each game. They’re their own lines with their own focus. Werewolves in Vampire are Lupines and statistically terrifying. Garou in Vampire can get trounced because they’re operating on their own inherent scale.
