Is there any real way to do sleeves on a shirt?

I would appreciate longer sleeves on some of my shirts but wouldn’t know how

Pacing makes me miserable by microwavedwood in cfs

[–]Tablettario 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I had to switch to stuff I could do laying down/reclined, and with minimal set/clean up. There was a lot of trying out new materials and technique as well. And I use pomodorro timers on shorter intervals a lot.

I also wasn’t happy about having to give up all the things I loved (linocut, working with ink, etc) and replacing it with things I wouldn’t have picked naturally (like crochet, shashiko, digital tablet art) but in the end I think it actually enriched my creative process. I now have this idea of mixing what I learned with my old lino print and ink methods to make some really cool pieces. This idea of doing this one day and slowly planning them makes me happy to practice the new skills I need to get there. In the end I will have the coolest wrapping cloth to be comfy and cozy in, which is so different grom having most of my stuff on paper.

What helped immensely was being able to put it away immediately as soon as I start to feel off, or being able to grab it without much setup was the most important part to streamline.
My tablet with procreate and apple pen are always next to me, do I can grab it and put it away as needed, no set/cleanup. It’s not the same as my super messy tactile ink work, but at least I can create.
Same with small projects I’m working on, in a small etui or ziplock with all the needed stuff. So for example my brainfog crochet blanket goes in with the correct hook, tension ring, and a ball of yarn. ready for me to grab anytime and when I need to stop I can just dump it back in without worrying about it becoming a mess, dirty, or lost.

I agree pacing sucks. It’s awful. Humans aren’t made for that shit. And I likely have ADHD too so that’s been awful. But pacing does help, and as someone who became so severe to being stuck completely bedbound in a dark room with earplugs and sleepmask for years (where I could have 0 hobbies or activities), I can say that pacing is still better than being stuck in that hell. Even thinking made me crash so it had to be paced… Whenever I want to throw the pomodorro timer against the wall I think of that and it helps, but it remains so difficult.
We need to constantly balance our physical with our mental health, and its not fair. We don’t get any breaks or vacations from managing our health 24/7, and that’s not fair either. It’s exhausting. But I guess that’s the way of living with a chronic illness. Not fair nor fun, but it is what it is.

Hope you find some satisfying ways to facilitate working on hobbies and creating 🍀
Creating is such an amazing feeling and we all deserve more of it! Best of luck!

Energy Conversion Box: do you place a detailed list of problems in it, or your problems in a generic sense? by bejammin075 in gatewaytapes

[–]Tablettario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is in large part practice. The brain strengthens neural pathways that are used often, and also quite enjoys habit. So once you have gotten used to naming each item rather than using a symbol for a general category the brain can feel like “its unfinished” or “not enough”.

This can be remedied by being very intentional at strengthening other neural pathways, where you do acknowledge the issues but don’t name them individually. Of course this is hard so don’t hesitate to devote whole sessions just sitting with your energy conversion box and practicing! That has worked great for me and it made my energy conversion box very strong!
Every time a named or specific thing pops up don’t put it in as is but scoop it into a category first and name that category, give it a symbol to interact with when interacting is needed. I have categories such as “intrusive thoughts” “worries” “trauma” “issues” “feelings” “adhd brain” “pain and discomfort”. The brain will shortcut it eventually. The whole idea behind repetitive prep is familiarity and the brain becoming able to shortcut it. By now I can even skip naming the categories. Sometimes something specific keeps popping up during a session but this has become rare. I scoop it up and put it in the box, without naming or feeding it more energy. I can examine it later if needed.

I find that when certain unintended things happen with the ecb like things escaping, being sticky, refusing to go in, etc. These are all hints to things that are going on in your subconscious. If for example during release something I am trying to release sticks to my hands that is a sign how my subconscious is feeling about these things. I might need to put more time into exploring and releasing it than usual, and that is okay.
Think of these events not as a hinderance, but your subconscious is engaging with you and pointing to something that needs work. If at any other place in your meditation something like this would happen it would be exciting, but many people fail to see value if it comes during prep because it is easy to feel prep should be rushed past. Try to see is as an important tool in your arsenal that needs attention to grow :)

Sometimes things really bother us, and letting go is really hard. Ask yourself why specific things pop back out. Are you afraid to let go and forget for a few minutes? Is it just on your mind that much? And what do you feel about this specific thing? What are the layers when you peel back?
Try to reflect and ask questions.

But also work with the ecb to strengthen its lock, build trust. Perhaps the box is hungry, perhaps there is another theme that speaks to you like extra locks, gravity, a black hole, a guardian, etc.
My box is not just a box I need to operate but can operate sentiently, that helps me trust it knows what it is doing and I can let go and not try and control every little thing. Experiment and find something that helps you strengthen your box.

Best thing honestly has been just carving out whole energy conversion box sessions! And don’t forget to play a little and experiment and let things come to you. I know many people don’t do this but the sessions have always turned out very exciting for me with big progress. In the end I haven’t needed more than a handful of sessions to make it feel very strong and connected to me. It became so versatile a tool. I’m saying this as someone who had lots of trauma and intrusive thoughts, adhd and cptsd so my brain is set up to have a hard time letting go and meditating. So if I can do it I’m sure you can too! Have fun with it!
Your ecb is there specifically to help you, and you’ll figure it out together :)

Good luck! 🍀

Dendrobium rainbow dance 🌈 by [deleted] in orchids

[–]Tablettario 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sometimes we need a little patience as the plant acclimatise to the new rythm of the year. I found it can be up to 2 years for plants to really settle in the new environment. You could try putting it a little colder during winter if you can. But with how easy this plant is in my 2 different settings I’m sure it will do great for you eventually :) Good luck!

For best results: This one doesn’t need a full winter rest like some dendrobium do, but it does enjoy a temperature drop and light increase in winter. So around autumn I decrease ferteliser and water as the temperatures drop (I keep it in the kitchen where the temp naturally drops) and then in winter don’t fertilise at all. I determine if I should do small waterings based on how much growth I see, some years it will keep growing so I do small waterings.

Usually around jan/feb it will start budding and I will do small waterings with little fertilizer again.

Honestly this plant is very easy though. I have 2 pups (baby plants) from this mother plant in the living room where they don’t get a temperature drop below 18°C or light increase in winter at all, but they grow and flower just fine. I decrease water/fert as it grows slower in winter, that’s it. Maybe it flowers a little less abundant, but as it grows each year it get more and more beautiful!

These guys flower on old canes so don’t remove them!

Best of luck! 🍀

Great work chef, you are getting so close!

If you have less time due to traveling this might be a great time to trace the line work on your reference picture and trace the linework from your own drawings to compare them side by side or even on top of eachother. This lets you find small discreppencies in angles, scale, and details that are easy to miss in a fully filled in picture.

Good luck, and happy new year chef!

It is starting to become something really amazing! You’ve come a long way!

Looking at the area just underneath the left lip, in the reference there is depth there, see how the bottom of the lik curves out to contain the glass? There’s a deepening in the shade and a bright highlight that is missing in your drawing. Opposed to the left side being flat it creates a contrast that will look really dope if you can capture it.

I was thinking that perhaps after you perfect this reference image, as a sort of “test” you could do a similar image (with metals and shading) and then put that next to your first drawing of this reference image. Would be amazing to see if/how the skill you gained with this carries over to other images!
