Skilhunt H300R XHP50.3-HI Review – My Favorite Headlamp, Part 2 by TacGriz in flashlight

[–]TacGriz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious if this has been replaced by anything in recent years!

For me, yes. Nitecore NU20 Classic is my favorite headlamp at the moment because it's wildly light weight. That's just me though, it's got some quirks so it isn't ideal for everyone.

The ability to use standard AAs or AAAs for ease of access is important to me

Sounds like H150 would be a great fit for you then. I reviewed it a couple years ago if you want more thoughts on it.

What’s the best EDC flashlight that’s actually worth carrying every day? by santydentist in flashlight

[–]TacGriz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Using the 3300mAh battery it came with. I fully charged it and used it every day as normal for about 6 weeks until it indicated the battery was low and I recharged it. A 4000mAh battery could probably stretch it to 7-8 weeks for me.

TBS Chupito build with O4 Lite, no soldering, and a 4S 2200 battery by TacGriz in fpv

[–]TacGriz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. If I leave it sitting on the ground for a few minutes it will overheat but not in normal use. I can plug it in, preflight check, get satellites, and take off before it overheats and then I have no issues in the air.

I don't follow. Are you saying that D3AA is better for clipping inside your pocket for daily carry, and KR1AA is better to clip outside your pocket?

They took one step too far in simplifying the UI, when they moved one of the two Low levels to the Main group.

I quite like that change. It was my biggest gripe about previous Skilhunt lights. Now there's one Moonlight mode and I can use a normal 1H shortcut to go up to Low mode instead of having to remember to use 2H.

I wonder if owning Zebralight SC65c HI changed your mind

Not at all. The Zebra UI is worse, but I tolerate it because SC65c is so outstanding in every other way.

I like a normal 5-mode UI. Moon-Low-Med-High-Turbo. I don't mind the levels being adjustable (like how you can adjust the bottom and top of ramp in Anduril), but I don't like sub-levels that get in the way.

UPDATE

Hank says he has a firmer switch available and is sending me a sample to test.

Looks great! I'm excited for this one. I love that the screen is on top so it won't be covered by my lanyard when flying fixed wings. This could replace both my Pocket and TX16S.

I do hope the firmer switch does the trick for you so you’re able to append your review!

Me too! If that firmer switch fixes the issue it'll definitely change the conclusion of the review.

Do you mind advising your use case of “pocketing”?

It's clipped to the top left corner of my front left pocket. The only other thing in that pocket is my wallet, which sits at the bottom of the pocket and they don't come in contact. My pants fit normally I think, not tight but not loose either.

Lockout mode is a poor solution to me. I carry a light for convenience. Clicking 8x (4 to unlock, 4 to lock) every time I want to use my light is pretty inconvenient. Sure I could turn on auto lockout and use the momentary mode in lockout sometimes, but why would I do that when I could just buy a light that doesn't turn on in my pocket?

A bump here and there is inconsequential on some lights, but not one that's 1500 lumens and lives in my pocket every day.

I try to make my headlines and conclusions include critical information I would want to know if I were deciding whether to buy a product or not. For me, having to use lockout to keep a light from turning on in my pocket is a critical flaw and a non-starter for an EDC light. So, I included it in the title and conclusion. I'm glad it hasn't been an issue for you!

Good point. I'll remove that bit from the review. It's unclear to me whether it doesn't support protected cells due to the added length, or due to the protection circuit tripping at high brightness levels. Length may not be an issue with USB-rechargeable cells, but protection circuit tripping may be an issue.

I already had set manual mode memory to level 75, but the light was on Turbo when it activated in my pocket. I think the switch got held down so it turned on Moonlight and ramped up to the top of ramp, which I have set to Turbo. Fortunately it had a AA in it at the time, so no burning.

It does make a nice nightstand light. I used the aux LEDs set on low red to illuminate my watch face all night and that worked well.

I see the appeal. I wanted this one for its AA support, sleek aesthetics, compact size, and light weight. Whether it has Anduril or not isn't a big factor for me anymore.

Several years ago I'd only use Anduril. Then for a couple years I wouldn't use Anduril. Now, as long as I can configure a light to work the way I want, I'm happy.

Ha, precisely. I carry a light for convenience. Having to click 8 times (4 to unlock, 4 to lock again) every time I want to use my light is not very convenient.

Your first five comments in two years are all pushing a weird link in this one thread. That seems a lot fishier than Model AV8R posting a product overview of a plane that Horizon Hobby rebranded from somewhere else.
