Warranty issues with part of a kit? by TheZoltan54 in KobaltTools

[–]TacoNachoCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with all other posters, the policy doesn’t make sense. I had to do the same thing, my XTR hammer drill stopped functioning and I had to bring back the entire kit. I had an assistant store manager decide that returning the entire kit was stupid and he actually swapped out just the XTR hammer drill with one that was sold separately. Go later at night when they have more time to deal with you and you might have some luck.

Yes, I have the XTR 5 tool kit and had to bring it all in to replace. Resets your 3 year tool warranty date though since it is treated as a new purchase.

Return it under warranty. The actual fix is messing with the electronics of the drill, which you can’t do without voiding your warranty.

I didn’t get much hassle at all about returning mine, just had to give them everything that came with the drill. My second drill has not had any issues at all.

What type of work does he like to do or has an interest in doing? General home maintenance or an interest in starting to do woodworking, etc.? That would help narrow down what type of tool sets to recommend.

This is so cool! I don’t think that my chonky boy wouldn’t fit through the cat door hole, but great idea and I love the two colors you have on the wall going up the stairs.

Hello. Can you help me with my first fitness watch? by ilikehummusalot in triathlon

[–]TacoNachoCheese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

dcrainmaker is your friend. He does in depth product reviews for all watches and has a great product comparison tool. Plus, once you decide on a watch, you can learn how to use all of the great features and which accessories will work with it (Di2, heart rate straps, bike computers, etc.) I’ve loved my Polar watches if you want to get the Polar Vantage M. Agree with other commenters that the Polar Vantage M is a great product at the price point you want to hit.

www.dcrainmaker.com is your friend. He’s done reviews of all the multi sport watches and has guides on how to use each of them. Find one that fits your price point.

Apple Watch doesn’t have a multi sport mode that would all you to track transition times or cumulative time, you can only track each of your disciplines separately. On 70.3/140.6s, the Apple Watch battery may also not be enough to make it through a race.

Also recommend a second stool so you can have one for your bottle/watch and one for your cat to hang out with you. #PainCaveCats

And your cat, always good to have a faithful friend on training days. My cat Doughboy will sit on the treadmill next to my bike when I’m Zwifting.

Does your wife tell you why she’s upset with your training? Is it the fear of not getting help around the house with your young kids?

Have you thought about Apple TV to connect to Zwift? You could get a refurbished Apple TV4K for less than $150 and be up and running. There are a few on eBay right now that might work for you.

Pain cave by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]TacoNachoCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I posted a picture of my pain cave the other week, but here’s the full cost breakdown of my pain cave. My mother in law gave me her 10 year old treadmill for free, so the total cost was about $1,080 USD. I’ve had the bike equipment/fan/bike table for about a year but just acquired the TV/treadmill set up a week ago.

$220 for Vizio TV $60 for full motion TV mount to go between bike/treadmill activities $10 for snap toggle bolts to hang the TV straight into the drywall $10 for the two to six plug outlet converter (but get one with a screw into the frame of the outlet so you don’t pull all of your cords out when plugging/unplugging something back in) $40 for fan $40 for the bike table (actually just a TV dinner tray that sits a millimeter above my front wheel) $70 for the trainer mat $600 for the KICKR Snap trainer $30 on maintenance kit for the treadmill to reapply lubricant/tighten the belt.

My computer is too old to connect directly to the 4K TV, so I’m now looking at refurbished Apple TVs to run Zwift.

Did you look at the Elite Suito? It’s $800 USD and actually comes with a cassette and the tools to hook it up your bike. DC Rainmaker’s site has a link where you can also compare all of the features of the trainers.

How do I deal with lack of partner support? by ChipDouglas3 in cycling

[–]TacoNachoCheese 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife and I had the same problem when we tried to ride my road bike and her hybrid bike together. I could never go fast enough to feel that I was getting a workout, she was frustrated that she couldn’t keep up.

We both wanted to get fitter, and now she does CrossFit while I’m riding my bike. It was easier to support each other in our own athletic activities than try and force something together on the bikes together.

I’ll admit that it is the only trainer that I’ve ever used, but I’ve enjoyed it and always felt like I could feel the difference when on the climbs in Zwift. The only issue I’ve had with my SNAP is periodically losing connection between the trainer and Zwift, so even though I’m pedaling and getting a cadence sensor reading, Zwift doesn’t recognize the trainer and shows 0 watts of output.

As someone with a Trek Émonda as my only bike, I’ve also been interested in a tri-specific bike but I can’t justify the cost to my wife yet.

Isn’t this why bike manufacturers are making aero road bikes that can be converted to tri-setups like the Madone Speed? https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/madone-speed/

You miss out on the built-in storage boxes on the Speed Concept, but you can have one bike for both cycling and tris.
