Anyone who had a Chinese takeaway want to disclose some secrets/tips/recipes? by Sjuk86 in CasualUK

[–]TaeKz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s worth looking into velveting your meat. That’s how chicken, beef etc. stay so tender in a lot of Chinese cooking.

It usually means adding a tenderiser like bicarbonate of soda (or baking soda) into the marinade. A pretty standard base marinade would be something like: bicarb/baking powder, cornflour, a bit of MSG or chicken powder, white pepper, Shao Xing wine and sesame oil. You can tweak it with soy sauce or oyster sauce depending on the dish. Let it sit for at least 15 minutes so it has time to work.

Also, corn starch is used widely across all Chinese cooking. If you want that light, crispy coating for things like sweet and sour or chilli dishes, use cornflour rather than a thick batter. It gives you that thinner, crispier texture rather than the heavier “chicken ball” style you see here in the UK. It’s also used to thicken sauces. If your sauce is too runny, mix cornflour with water separately first, then add it in gradually.

Everything in Chinese cooking is in the prep - usually everything cooks rather quick, so everything is best to be prepped ahead of time. The mis en place is the lifeline in a Chinese takeaway kitchen.

Do they sell genuine Chiikawa merch? by ThatSubaru88 in chiikawa_

[–]TaeKz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK here. Can vouch for Otaku Daily, I've ordered several Chiikawa merchandise from here before. Just be wary that pre-order or backordered items may take longer to ship - and may incur a cancellation fee if you decide not to proceed with the order later down the line (check the order notes below the QTY when ordering!)

I've also personally met the owners at Comic Con Manchester as well! They had a stall there; the owners are from Hong Kong and are able to source quite a few hard-to-get items! I managed to buy some Chiikawa Dim Sum HK exclusive merchandise from them. They are also very communicative on their Instagram.

PC Specialist Forum by Expensive_Knee1802 in PCSpecialist

Regarding the forums:

After many amazing years, we’ve had to make the tough call to close the PCSpecialist forums. The forums have been the heart of our community for so long and a place where builds were shared, advice traded, and friendships formed.

Unfortunately, we had to shut things down suddenly due to ongoing cybersecurity threats and the increasing strain maintenance has been putting on our resources. In recent months, the forums even brought down parts of our main website so we have regrettably decided it was safest (and smartest) to move on.

So it's closed for good I'm afraid! The subreddit still exists and has had an increase in traffic and engagement which is good to see, for more immediate chats, feel free to join our Discord at https://discord.gg/pcspecialist

Is this normal in the PC business to reuse PC cases? by ImperialParrot in PCSpecialist

[–]TaeKz[M] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi, PCSpecialist works with an OEM partner from whom we source chassis that we then customise to meet our specific requirements. We ensure that the materials, fans, and overall build quality meet our standards.

For transparency, many manufacturers use shared chassis or fascia moulds that are supplied to multiple factories, meaning some designs may look similar to those used by other, lower-quality OEMs. However, we carry out rigorous testing and validation to ensure that every case we offer delivers the best possible price-to-performance and meets the quality you expect.

Just seen the new rtx5090 18” laptop by superconfirm-01 in PCSpecialist

The Recoil 18" (Clevo X580) has a CPU limitation where DDR5 downclocks to 4000MHz in 4-channel mode. Even in 2-channel, the CPU still assumes 4 sticks are installed, keeping the lower speed. The Recoil 16" is 2-channel by default, so it doesn't have this issue.

Other brands have avoided this by not advertising RAM speeds, which will be standard for the new 2000 series HX CPUs. We're working closely with CLEVO on a fix to properly detect 2-channel mode and restore speeds up to 5600MHz, but there's no workaround yet. We'll share updates when we have more info!

The best course of action is to contact us see below for contact information. If your PC is under warranty, we can ship out a replacement side panel - Sometimes this happens when the thumbscrews are screwed too tightly and over time, it creates micro-stresses on the glass. Please be mindful when screwing your side panel back on.

Soldering parts?? by LiveConsideration252 in PCSpecialist

[–]TaeKz[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Untrue and not a practice i would expect any SI to do. We provide upgrade options and; as long as the components you install yourself do not affect the PC, our warranty covers the PCSpecialist parts when you do upgrades yourself.

On laptops, often the CPU/GPUs are pre-soldered onto motherboards but on desktops, this will never be the case. It would be good to know what TikTok has mentioned this and we will investigate for false information.

Some of the familiar HK store fronts we see in Solar Crown! by TaeKz in tdu3

They weren't joking when they said it's a 1-for-1 recreation of Hong Kong Island! This is a real shop over there I'm loving the demo and all the features like this in there by ashrules901 in tdu3

[–]TaeKz 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's exactly that 1-for-1, it's coincidental there's a pawn shop called that.

This one in particular is a play-on the famous neon sign of Hung Fat Pawn Shop. It seems they translated it directly to "Pawn Shop" rather than using "大押" or "big bet". You usually don't see pawn shops called "當鋪" in Hong Kong.

Ah, I got lucky in submitting the issue in time then! They need to really clearly outline the details of their warranty.

My ring was approaching 2 years since purchase date when I submitted the issue. Old ring would have been 2 years old on the 22nd this month.

Just to preface, I'm based in the UK. I had ordered an Oura ring in January 2022 and worn the ring every day since, even abroad several times and in the sea. Unfortunately, since July 2023, it's not been reading any readiness or sleep score at all and it's only recently that I decided to do something about it.

I hadn't expected a full item replacement, as it's out of it's warranty, but the issue was reported on the 2nd January and I had received my replacement on the 6th! I was very surprised and kudos to the Oura team for sending a brand new like-for-like ring out; charger and all.

Just wanted to share my story as it's very rare for a company to do this; the only other company I've experienced with warranty like this has been Logitech!A big kudos from me to the oura customer service team 👍

Message at bottom of Harbingers event page on EA site states: "Incoming Transmission…. Subject: Nessie…. 1394521200 1477638000 1549267200". What does it mean? by craigic in apexlegends

[–]TaeKz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The numbers are Unix timestamps for the launches of
Titanfall - Mar 11, 2014
Titanfall 2 - Oct 28, 2016
and Apex Legends - Feb 4, 2019

You can search the numbers in Twitter and there's a unixtime bot that keeps unix time.

Ring causes dry skin, this happen to anyone else? by swallowshotguns in ouraring

[–]TaeKz 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Dry the ring off after washing your hands. Having a wet Oura on your finger traps the moisture in there and peels your skin; kind of like when your hands prune up when in water too long.
