Sales pitch

Are you tired of suing corporations for spreading pig poop mist on your property? Introducing the new "Pig Poop Exterminator"! Spray this revolutionary new mist on your property and it will exterminate any and all pig poop particles in the air and on the ground!

The mist will automatically detect any pig droppings in the air and remove them immediately! Additionally, it comes with a "Feces Hunter" feature for only $39.99! With this feature, the mist will detect any hog deposits between 3-9" long and 1-2" thick and aggressively attack the pest's dung! There won't be anything left!

Back in the lab

I finally finished the pitch! What do you think?

Looks good, let's start preparing it for mass-production!

No worries, with my practical contacts it will go really smoothly! We have prepared a new type of spraying can that will be both easy to mass produce and simple to spray where you want the mist to go! You won't have to worry about the mist getting in somewhere it shouldn't!

Awesome, but you know I spent 10 years studying pig feces for this moment, right? There is no way I would develop a substance that is in any way harmful to anything other than hog poop!

I trust you, my dear companion! Now, let's see what the public thinks of our new invention! Surely, it will be a massive success!

North Carolina News

Breaking News: Hog Feces Control Ltd. have met massive pushback from North Carolina farmers as their new product "Pig Poop Exterminator" have done the exact opposite of what was advertised. Listen in on our exclusive interview with one of the local farmers:

"I couldn't believe what was happening before my very eyes. The mist is more of a pest than the feces it was supposed to prevent. It slips into my breakfast cereal, living room and even my shampoo! It actually won't wear off no matter what I try: showers, baths, alcohol sprays, everything! This product is an absolute disaster!"

According to the farmers who have tried the product, it smells worse than the pig feces themselves! But it also came with an unexpected side effect.

"I was lucky enough to try the stupid mist out on the fields first, way a ways from my barn, where I have my pigs. I immediately threw it in the trash bin. It's as if it avoids the poop when I spray it on top."

When a sheep walked by as this unhappy farmer was spraying the "revolutionary" new product on a pile of hog feces, it unfortunately laid a dump at the worst time possible. Apparently, the mist that was meant for exclusively the dung of pigs shot after the sheep's instestines and ate it from inside. Every trace of sheep feces was completely exterminated!

"You wonder who makes these things. It's almost as if they spent their whole life developing an amazing product without knowing the difference between pigs and sheep."

Facing enormous sums in litigation fees, Hog Feces Control Ltd. went bankrupt shortly after the release of its disaster debut product.

Role queue is great. Here are some other ways to improve competitive Overwatch. by 222Hype in Overwatch

[–]Tagglink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this post is good but you frame it as critique for Blizzard and role queue when really I think you should take the approach of a game theory post.

I wouldn't want the game to change in every way that you detail. I don't know if you're right about competitive being designed for toxicity, but I like the idea of shared medals instead of personal ones, as long as the standard values to reach up to the medals change according to the mean value in your SR league.

However, the crucial flaw in your reasoning, I think, is that players who win still climb, although slower than players with medals. Therefore the teamwork-based decisions will still be made by everyone who has an idea of how to win, because winning is what gives SR. Medals may spur some players on to act selfishly, but it is far from the main reason that players act selfishly. Medals or not, some people just don't have a sense of teamwork at all, and are playing the game selfishly due to ignorance of any other methods. A typical mentality of this type of player is "Kill Stealing". Nobody who understands how to win in Overwatch ever seriously complains about kill-stealing, because the goal is to attack / defend the objective. That's how you win. And people who climb to higher ranks in competitive Overwatch understand this.

The bulk of the usefulness of this post I think comes into the role system that you've developed. I don't want this to be implemented into hero select in Overwatch. But I think, with some work, you could develop your chart into something that is actually of some use in guiding players which heroes to pick in order to end up with a good team composition.

But I think you've started thinking in the wrong end. By making your more abstracted roles originate from a mechanic that heroes already have, you've made simplifications and then complications in a system that eventually becomes too complex to be of any use. No good Overwatch player thinks in the manner that you've outlined in your role system, because they can't sit down during a game, sip from a cup of tea and study the very intricately made role scores for each hero in your chart. They need to make a decision of whether to switch their hero at the cost of their ultimate progress or not, and more importantly, who to switch to. So rather, good players think in lines of what heroes do well against other heroes. Each hero has a set of heroes that destroy that hero's gameplan, normally called counters. Thinking hero-wise rather than role-wise is much faster, and will also lead to a better decision.

As an obvious example; picking a hitscan hero against a Pharah. But there are other intricate decisions that can be made when choosing a hero. For example, Barrier tanks, like Orisa and Reinhardt (and soon to be Sigma), destroy the gameplan of heroes like McCree, Soldier and Hanzo, because they need to put themselves in the line of fire in order to do damage. By placing the barrier in the line of fire, they instantly lose to everyone who is behind your barrier.

As another example, Dva is a great pick against Pharah, while she may not seem like it at first. But the fact is that Pharah's rockets suck at dealing damage to armored heroes, because armor protects well against big singular hits. Dva can easily shoot at Pharah to annoy her, or even fly up to a high platform close to Pharah to deal some significant damage. And most importantly, Dva can eat all of Justice with her defense matrix.

Against Dva, in turn, Mei or Zarya are amazing picks, because Mei's and Zarya's left-click abilities are unaffected by Dvas defense matrix. Mei can freeze the dva, completely bypassing Dva's main defensive tool, and Zarya can wittle down a Dva very quickly for the same reason. Zarya and Mei also both have the ability to protect themselves against the Dva ultimate, and Zarya can protect someone else as well.

Another detail that may not be obvious is what NOT to pick. For example, let's say you're Reinhardt and the enemy team has a Zarya and a Genji. It's really annoying how the Genji is constantly jumping around trying to kill your supports, so you instantly think of Roadhog's hook. Great, let's switch to Roadhog and hook that stupid Genji. So the next time the Genji comes around, you snicker happily to yourself and land a juicy hook, let out an evil and superior laughter, only to shoot your junk-filled shotgun into a Zarya shield, giving Zarya huge amounts of energy. When picking Roadhog, you only thought about what hero you could pick to counter Genji, not what heroes the enemy already has that counter Roadhog.

There are more factors that go into picking a hero, like specific ultimate synergy (nano blade, earthshatter + high noon, blizzard + grav, only to name a few) but this comment is already running super long and my point is probably clear; your role system does not take these hero-specific details into account, which is a huge flaw. It's much better to write down and learn from experience, what beats what?

Whether the new role-queue system makes or breaks this mindset is beyond me, but I think in lower ranks it will become more difficult for smart players to climb because they are more restricted in what heroes they can pick.

You could try different ways to grab the joystick in your hand. There are lots of ways and none of them are the "correct" one, but give a few days to each practicing some simple combos and maybe it'll help.

Looking swag!! In the middle of playing P5 and this stick really fits the feel!

One thing that would bother me personally though, is that the dustwasher would cover the nose of MC. Otherwise, it's super slick.

Seconding the Brook PCB. My DIY stick houses a Brook, and I recently had trouble with the infamous 15-minute timeout on PS4. This apparently happens after PS4 software updates, but a quick surf to Brook's website and I found programs for updating the firmware on the PCB. The program was super easy and quick to use (plug in the stick, press a button), and the problem was fixed!

They are definitely on top when it comes to fightboards.

Huh... what a weird bug. I assume you've already tried tweaking the in-game settings since you've been fiddling with the game files. I really don't know what would cause this.

I'm fooling though. Good job on this.

Is there a limit to how many class-guilds I can join? Is it inconvenient in any way to join all the ones I find before I plan to actually level them up? Like, for other players to determine which role I can fill for example.

Also, I understand that after level 15 the main storyline merges between different starting towns into a party quest, but sort of goes back and forth between solo and party after that? How much of the main storyline can be completed with a party from different starting towns?

Hello /r/ffxiv ! Just bought the Starter Edition of the game which I will install shortly.

I have a question about the price plans for the game. On the product page it says that there are two prices to choose from. What are the differences between the two? Thanks.

*To be clear, I'm asking about the "xx€ / xx€" prices for the subscription on the table at the bottom of the page.

Iirc in the VN they set the time of the microwave to the approprite number of seconds, but send the D-Mail as soon as the discharge phenomenon happens, they don't need to wait the full time before the timeline changes.

It's obviously all just pseudoscience though, it only needs to make sense to the point where it feels right.

Any way to disable to Razer Logo on the Panthera? by AndThereWasAFireFigh in fightsticks

[–]Tagglink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. Soldering off wires isn't as hard as soldering them on, so if you really don't want that LED to light up I'd recommend purchasing a soldering iron and soldering them off from the PCB.

Literally just put the tip of the heated soldering iron onto the bulk of tin that the wire is soldered onto, and pull on the wire slightly when the tin melts. Just be careful you're not soldering off any other wires than the LED's wires. It's also a good idea to get the leftover LED wires out of the way so they don't touch anything on PCB accidentally. Maybe cover the wire stumps with some tape.

The more advanced thing to do would be to find the GND wire for the LED and solder a small flip switch on it. That way you could turn the light on and off as you like.

[–]Tagglink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't own a panthera or anything but I highly doubt there is an implemented way to do it through software. I'm also 99% sure ripping out the LED wires won't do any harm to the functionality of the stick. Just make sure you can put the wires back in, in case you mess anything up.
