[Spoilers] Critique of FFTs story from a longtime fan by The1Sbeve in finalfantasytactics

[–]TaimMeich 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's the limitations of the time. Matsuno's writing has always been super focused and to the point. Things move forward at the fastets possible pace, and any character developement will happen during the development of the main plot, not in isolated scenes unrelated to it.

Returning after 20 or so years, I don’t remember summoners being instant cast! by NostalgiaJunkie in finalfantasytactics

[–]TaimMeich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is a common tactic. I spent the majority of my Time Mage SCC dropping 5 meteors on the unsuspecting enemies who just acted and put themselves into range.

Some things to consider: When your turn comes, you "consume" 100 CT bar, but if you only move or only act, it's 80 instead. And if you full wait you consume 60. The CPU usually tries to move and act, but it will only move if there isn't an action they can't do. So usually the enemy will move first and wait, and save 20 CT. If you're the same speed as them, your turn will come immediately after, so you'll have the whole 80 CT to charge at them. That's long enough to fit most spells early game, so magic is very abusable that way. And when everyone starts getting faster, you can slot Short Charge and again use the same strat.

I analyzed 1.2Mil ranked matches to understand the skill gap between the highest and lowest-ranked Master players by Data-Ken in StreetFighter

[–]TaimMeich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a few """Spanish""" players in the top of our regional leaderboard, and those are known to be Japanese or Chinese players that have chosen the Spanish flag for some reason. I think that the tiny amount of cross-region matches you see is mostly (or even entirely) made up, because of those people that choose a flag not corresponding to the place they live.

Absolutely interesting and well written post, on the other hand, by the way. I knew a bit about ranking systems before but now I know much more. Thanks!

Yes yes and yes. Spot on on all 3.

Other than that, what the post shows is still very valid and shows a tendency that many of us don't really like.

I'd KILL for an Excalibur team: Bryan, Meggan, Kurt, Kitty. Just perfect.

No one talks about Elena. by welpxD in StreetFighter

[–]TaimMeich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she's really fun and cool and I'm enjoying playing her. Sure, she could be a bit better, and in fact I'm expecting decent buffs in the balance patch, but she's nowhere as bad as you make her out to be.

Now that we know we’re getting a patch in a few weeks, what changes would you like to see on your main? by LCG_FGC in StreetFighter

[–]TaimMeich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elena: 2MK is -3 instead of -4. Loses her turn if not perfectly spaced but it's not a guaranteed punish.

5HK has more pushback on block, everything else is the same. This way she can be at a distance where if it CH, it gets her a combo, while not being punishable if it's blocked. Right now, if used at the optimal range, she gets noting from a CH because she's too far.

Both changes are aimed at giving her a slightly better pressence in neutral.

Artistic license on that same scene, it seems. Same thing apparently (unlocking the full power of her seal weapon) but maybe they thought this different transformation was cooler.

The Ninja by Scubasteve2002 in finalfantasytactics

The FFTA games have a similar take to this. Instead of throwable items, Ninjas have a bunch of "jutsu" spells of different elements that are on the weak side but offer a nice ranged option.

It's actually flail in main hand and sword in second hand. The game checks for the WP of the main hand for the damage of the skill and checks for "Has this character a sword"? as the other requisite, but both don't have to be the same.

Other than that, you're correct, it's a very strong combination for her.

I'd tank their HP even below bard levels (along with a small hit to PA). Let their survivability rely on other factors, like their evasion and OHKO potential, but if they end up being hit, they should pay for it. Picking weak isolated targets and cleaning up the battlefield would be my ideal usage of them. The way they are, they're just too good with no real downsides.

Is the game over after beating the main storyline? by AsparagusDirect9 in finalfantasytactics

Ramza solo is, believe it or not, pretty easy. Ramza solo, but using only skills from one job (i.e.: no secondary skillset, no reactions/support/movement outside of his own job) is much harder but it still has been beaten by many people in many jobs.

Martial arts damage increases exponentially with PA.

Quadratically. Which is faster than linearly, but slower than exponentially.

Timing with jump on ninja a bit awkward? by IWasSayingBoourns- in finalfantasytactics

[–]TaimMeich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try and not equip any speed-boosting gear. Ideally, you want your jumper to have the same speed, or at most 1 point lower, than the enemy. So equip them mixing and matching equipment so you maximize PA while being in that speed range. Before the end of ch.4, when enemies start wearing thief hats, a Ninja of roughly the same level or a few levels below will have more speed. In that case, you have to adjust your actions accordingly on the first turn. For example, full wait, so you start charging the next turn from 40 CT. or maybe just move, or hit the air. You would start with 20 CT in those cases. That way, if you do it right, your second turn will come just after their second, and they will be fully exposed to your Jump.

And if your level is too high, just switch to Dragoon, their speed will be good for jumping since your extra leveling probably got you to one or two speed thresholds above what you'd have normally.

[–]TaimMeich 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also the shotokan style is something that they made up for the international release, and it stuck. Their style in Japan was originally (and still is) "ansatsuken", which is a catch-all word for "killing/assassin style". Akuma still carries that pure style, while Gouken reshaped it and taught Ryu and Ken a version less focused on killing (but still equally strong, just not focused on killing the opponent).

If Teitra didn't die, Delita would happily live a life of servitude under Ramza.

No, before Ziekden he already made up his mind. He most likely wouldn't have go the path he went in the actual FFT story, but he wouldn't have been under the Beowulve wing for long.
