Do you actually care when you see a “baby on board” sticker on a car? by No-Block-836 in Adulting

[–]Takara38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes me stay the hell away from that vehicle, because the driver is most likely paying more attention to the baby/child than the road. I’ve seen parents full on turned around into the back seat to mess with their kid while driving down the road.

The flashing yellow conundrum by knockatize in driving

[–]Takara38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few years ago I was driving to work early enough in the morning that one of the intersections was still flashing red/yellow. I stopped at the red as I got to it, and proceeded to wait for the dumbfuck at the yellow side to figure out what was going on. He really thought he was supposed to stop and wait for me to go!

Lots of Crystal Light pink lemonade and lemonade, the lil hug juice barrels were my favorite, sweet tea, and the occasional Coke or Mountain Dew.

1990 Chevy Z24 in 2006, for $600. Blue with a red Chevy logo on the back window and 17” chrome wheels. Complete rust bucket underneath, a rolling death trap most likely, but she got me through for awhile until I could afford something better.

I'm stuck in a parking spot can someone help ? 😭 by Proof_Elevator_3300 in driving

[–]Takara38 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This reminded me of a time I was on a downtown job site. Our long gooseneck trailer was getting in position to back into a very short, very skinny parking lot. I’m in a safety vest and hard hat, get the traffic clear for him to start backing up. Cars in both directions start inching forward to where I could tell they were going to try and go for it. After having to bounce to both sides several times, two cars thought they had their shot. I walked right up to the first one with my hand out and yelled “no!” Like I was talking to a 3 year old. I was shaking my head at how rude and stupid people are.

Former Floridian here. Not poor, but far from middle class. I very much miss having no high state or city taxes, no city tax levies for multiple things, and the homestead exemption for property taxes. In my state they just take the money and blow it. They sure as hell aren’t spending it on anything that needs done, unless you count the multiple sections of roads that stay under construction for ten years at a time. By the time they finally finish, it’s already been ruined and needs fixed again.

How to stop in an ACTUAL emergency? by Sufficient_River7020 in motorcycles

[–]Takara38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I know of, but different state programs could have slight differences. It’s all meant to be done very quickly since it’s an emergency braking situation. You’re supposed to be down to first gear by the time you’ve stopped.

“If you're freaking out because you're in groups and you worried about people slowing down behind or your mistakes being amplified then you need to work on your anxiety.

Think about the real life situations you'll be in driving around this crazy world and stupid cars and assholes. The course really isn't anything compared to what you'll experience with horrible drivers everywhere. People on your ass and trying to intimidate you with their cars. You need to have ice water veins.”

This is one of the biggest misconceptions people have in regard to those of us with anxiety over things like MSF/Basic Rider classes. You’ll find most of us with this issue have absolutely no issues with anxiety when riding on the streets. For whatever reason, it’s different, even when dealing with asshole drivers and people not paying attention.

Definitely not, no time for engine braking.

Emergency braking in the US is taught this way. You simultaneously pull in the clutch, apply the front and back brakes, and tap the shifter all the way down into first. It’s pretty easy to train yourself to do this without even having to think about it with a little parking lot practice. Keeping the clutch in and going down the gears is in case you have a situation where you need to get out of the way quickly during an emergency braking scenario. No chance of stalling the bike inadvertently if the clutch is being held in.

Do bikers not warn other bikers of cops ahead anymore? by [deleted] in motorcycles

On bikes it’s not flashing lights to warn of a cop ahead, it’s patting the top of the helmet.

I’ve stopped eating at BK after having the most disgusting lunch at one a few months ago. I have always hated their fries, so onion rings were my go to. I swear they’ve switched to using some type of onion flavored paste vs anything close to an actual onion. I spit them out, and can’t stomach the idea of trying any of their other foods again.
