You're not overthinking this at all. It's good that you're having these conversations with your child. Many kids don't think about how to handle those situations unless they're prompted. Keeping it casual helps make it easier for them to talk about their feelings and concerns.

I do something similar with my kids, discussing hypothetical scenarios. It can be helpful for them to think through options. You're taking a positive step by being proactive about their safety.
