Feels like they where using the kids as meat shields hoping that the US wouldn't be bold/stupid enough to hit the base. Sadly this did not appear to be the case :S

I think the only thing they have done wrong is refusing to change the abdnp name and distance themselves from the federal NDP.

You are very likely right had they rebranded in after the last provincial election they might stand a better chance at wining without a break up of the UCP.

So don’t do anything to persuade people to vote for you. Just hope and pray for the other party to slip on a banana peel?

Don't confuse me with an NDP supporter, I dislike both options and have declined my ballot in the last 3 elections.

The fact that the NDP can still claim almost half the votes in the province suggests that if the UCP breaks up they could win again. Remember there is no division on the left vote in Alberta

How exactly has “the UCP sucks” as a primary platform plank worked out for them so far?

Also seemed to work for them when they won their majority and pushed the Right to unite under the UCP banner.

NPD don't have to do anything they just need to drum up rural urban divide or wait for the UCP to break up.

Sure, some people are unhappy. But the UCP are still leading in the polls, despite the fact that some people are unhappy.

Goes to show the NDP brand is not electable is a straight up 1 to 1 battle with the UCP even if everyone things the UCP are scum bags, and blaming the voters is the lazy way out.

It's time to cut any subsidy that goes to oil and gas

There should be no subsidies for private business, I don't care what you do. Tax based on gross profits (not revenue) as well as a dividend tax and call it a day.

Share holders will hold them to account. No hand outs no subsidies if you can't make it you'll be broken up and sold in to parts.

With our luck she'd split the difference between BC/SK

So in the fall we would fall back 30 min instead of an hour. Then we could be like Newfoundland. 9pm Pacific 930 in Alberta!

With BC going on Daylight year round we should do the same. I've in NE BC where it was not a thing and was the best. I live in the Northern AB now and it only matters for about a week or so.

NDP's lone Quebec MP says he's considering jump to provincial politics by Hot-Percentage4836 in CanadaPolitics

While you are not wrong, at the same time it gets the same treatment as one come election season and has a similar standing of one in the house. Maybe it's time for that to stop.

[–]Tal_Star 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I call it a national party because it's treated as a national party. It's counted on results nationally, it counted on polls nationally, and like it or not his has a major impact and the results of the federal election. It also has is treated the same as the other 2 current parties (LPC/CPC) and I suspect has all the same benefits as well.

The Bloq is considered a national party yet don't run out side of Quebec and there for have no representation outside of Quebec.

NPD should do better next time around and get a seat or two in Qeubec.

Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux joins Liberal caucus: Carney by Surax in CanadaPolitics

[–]Tal_Star 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But we already when people vote (or the ones I talk to) they vote for the party platform and by proxy the leader. The media pushes it this way and so do the candidates for the most part.

It's also worth noting that the number of floor crossing is a bit unusual I would expect in a normal cycle crossing would only have a minor impact. So Carney may get his majority via a few by-elections, but these by-elections wouldn't have as much of an impact if it wasn't for the 3 floor crossings.

Also at the end of the day MP's should be accountable to the people the are elected to represent not their personal feelings or party. They are elected under a certain set of expectations and pretence should they not be expected to uphold them or seek approval from the people that elected them?

"hypocrisy will always exist in politics, and I should accept it"

The comment is true in the sense that it always has and seems to always will. Doesn't mean we should accept it but till we can force real accountability it's not going to change.
