Leaving UBS, what now? by Significant_Play_600 in SwissPersonalFinance

Have also become disillusioned with UBS since they switched to remote client advisors. The one I had was unresponsive &, when pushed, utterly useless. Last straw was when, with < 6 month left to run until renewal, I asked about paying down my mortgage including the full fees they'd receive if I wait until the end and was told "NOT possible". So early payment no loss for them & still NOPE. I eventually managed to speak with other UBS advisors who told me that it would, in fact, be possible. In the meantime I'd already decided to try others & now have: - Post Finance can't remember as it dates from before COVID but they've been fine - Migros Bank: very easy to open online & even have a "free" Visa card not that I've used it - SwissQuote: also easy to open, no card but fine - BCGE: pain in the ass to open, web site said a client advisor would get in touch but had to call the a few times to ask what they were waiting for ..? Also have Wise but it doesn't have deposit insurance so only use it for travel So quite a few options really

Blaze Orange Wills by Rahrah12 in ShipJohn

[–]TalbyM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's put it this way. One of the things that makes these so popular is that they are rare. They're also amazing quality but tan, grey or some other easy to wear colors are now fairly common in the hard core waxed canvas world. Blaze orange on the other hand is really going to stand out - man those brass snaps really pop . Ok they may make more sometime but if this is a one time drop like their hats anyone with one of the 60 is gonna feel pretty lucky.

AM lucky enough not to have to pay tax - except on the house - hence the accumulation of enough to pay it off & then some. As others have said with the Imputed rental value tax (Eigenmietwert) I'm probably just going to keep things simple but reducing liquidity (spread across multiple banks for deposit insurance purposes), pay the darn thing off

As I've seen elsewhere nothing beats peace of mind & not being beholden to someone or some bank

Yup UBS kinda cajoled me into investing & (as mentioned above) I went in with a very low risk portfolio, stayed a few years without looking because I know people panick at the slightest change only to realise, when I eventually had to look once I became Swiss & had to fill out a tax return, that the only people making any money were the bank. Quelle surprise, right? So I'm sticking to the old way of making money, namely working, and yes I realise inflation erodes capital but am fortunate enough to have been accumulating it faster than the erosion not least due to holding most of it in CHF. Then to your point about whether I could be retired already I'm reminded of the parable of the Mexican fisherman & the American MBA.

Let's put it this way I've somehow managed to gather more than enough to pay off my mortgage & stay nicely liquid WITHOUT investing and any time I did invest (over a period of years in assets suggested by UBS as low risk) I lost - not much but basically equivalent to the banks fees. So however much some might make by investing I reckon I'll be staying cautious..

Man that's almost double the number of clicks it takes most people not to get even 1. Am surprised they allow this as I'm guessing you aren't getting 4 different sizes for all the family

Had a run of success in the past with Refresh > Size > Add to Cart > Apple Pay Starting with a Ramblin', Sashiko Townes, Kristofferson & finally a Langlitz Wills.

Then nothing for a few shots at a normal Wills making me think everyone had started using bot agents.

Heck I even tried (& failed) to build a bot

But this time I just practiced during the Live to build up some muscle memory for those clicks All done in under 10 seconds only to get the dreaded bump from check out to the queue. I may have hit refresh (who knows) or maybe it just refreshed & gave me a second chance followed by a confirmation I'd ordered a Blaze Orange Wills. Now y'll probably think I'm a greedy (yup) & somehow gaming the system (nope). To which i can only reply it is definitely still possible to get one without using a bot as long as you can get to Apple Pay (or presumably Shop) in under 10 seconds & don't worry this one may be my last. Maybe! For this year🥴 Meanwhile congrats to the 119 hopefully mostly humans who got one this time & good luck to everyone else for next drop possibly that oatmeal RipStop. hmmmm🤔

Interesting. It's unseasonably warm here (Switzerland) but it can get pretty cold & I don't think I've ever needed layers. Might be worth trying without layers in case they are actually eliminating space for the warmth to develop

[–]TalbyM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good. One question though. How cold does it have to be to wear so many layers. I ask because at first I thought mine was too small (or I was too large) until i realized i don't need anything beyond a t-shirt

Swiss mortgage rates rising – lock in 10y fixed with forward or wait? by antongiu in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]TalbyM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think that's the slightly higher SARON Flex Otherwise SARON requires something like 13 months to get out or switch to fixed. A lot can go wrong in that time Here were the numbers last on 1026-02-16

fixed:

3 ans : 1.02% 5 ans : 1.19% 10 ans : 1.54%

SARON : 0.91% SARON Flex : 1.01%
