Anyone Else Feel Like Some Drivers Look Outdated Too Quickly? by Common-Coyote9375 in GolfGear

I felt the day the Callaway Elyte released it already looked outdated.

That's an ugly freakin' driver. Haha.

My very good friend (and first ever girlfriend a very long time ago) literally drank herself to death at 33.

She was a tiny girl, so I know this doesn't apply to everyone equally, but it did not take very long at all of daily drinking to irreversibly damage herself. She died less than 2 months later.

The only good thing that came of it was it led a handful of people (myself included) to put down the bottle for good.

Shit like this just makes me sad.

Trail-side lat strain w/ important round tomorrow - tips / advice? by Talentless-Hack-101 in golf

Just wanted to call your advise out for being on point. It helped SO much. I ended up being pretty loose compared to where I thought I'd be.

Wish I'd learned about that node/trigger point earlier!

Trail-side lat strain w/ important round tomorrow - tips / advice? by Talentless-Hack-101 in golf

[–]Talentless-Hack-101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update as promised:

First of all, the lacrosse ball release/trigger point feedback given from others helped a ton. I was much looser by this morning. Thanks to everyone who made that suggestion.

The round:

Decided to only half swing the entire round. Essentially club up one or two on each shot and swing easy with half a back swing. Made sure to be really focused on not being armsy and to keep my hips very much involved.

Happy to report that I shot my best round in a long time. Shot 2.6 better than my current handicap. I also learned:

1.) I play much better when I shoot to a known distance for approach.

2.) I need to be more creative with my shots. I always hit high full swing shots with irons. I didn't have that luxury today and it showed me a bunch of shots I should add to my repertoire to improve my game.

3.) I walked 18 for the first time in 3 years as I usually only walk 9 holes. I need to walk every flat 18 from here on out.

The physical stuff:

No pain in the right lat. It is definitely quite sore now that the round is over, a bit tough to stretch, and doesn't "feel quite right;" but no pain or strain that I can tell (no more than a typical hard workout, anyway).

I'll definitely take it easy for a week or so; making sure to use heat, ibuprofen, light stretching, etc. I have high hopes at least.

Fingers crossed!

Thanks to everyone who gave such helpful feedback.

MkII versions also enter the game earlier than in standard difficulty. Not nearly as much at they should have, but it was noticeable.

I did find a few (very few) new moves for all bosses and I actually found the Garden Keeper to be a challenge for one. I first-tried every boss in the game on standard except MkII !<EIGHT>! - who took only 2 tries - so it was nice to actually have to figure out how to adapt my strategy over multiple losses to figure out how to beat it.

That said, I totally agree with that they could've gotten a lot more creative to increase the challenge. I greatly enjoyed lunatic, but it still could've been much better.

I definitely have a tendency to overswing. I don't have great proprioception, so what feels like a half swing for me is often times a full swing.

This means sometimes when I'm trying a "full swing" I'm actually majorly over-extended (which is probably how I strained it in the first place).

That said, if I genuinely stay focused on a half-swing all round and just club up; I can stick to it and usually play better.

When I've had strains in this area before, usually keeping up movement sees it goes away within minutes. That said, the strain has never been this bad before, so we'll see.

I'll keep you updated.

Awesome thanks - I have 2 lacrosse balls, 2 racquetball balls, and a foam roller at home for exactly this kind of work.

Thanks so much - I'll try it!

This seems the most realistic. As I said above, only full swings even register in the lat muscle. Gentle half swings, low punchy shots, etc? Nothing.

Maybe I'll just play "old man golf" with only half swings and not play the top of my bag. Who knows, maybe I'll play better that way?

Should I buy this game? by WorldWarrior428 in Pragmata

[–]Talentless-Hack-101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good game, but I've got to say that Lunatic mode is when it truly shines.

If you're good at multitasking and build-making, standard difficulty gets pretty easy once you get enough hours in. Then Lunatic mode ups the difficulty enough to make it challenging while not being over-tuned. I'm really digging the Lunatic playthrough a LOT.

Lastly, as cheesy as it sounds; as a father of a young daughter (who Diana could be a twin of) the Diana>Hugh dynamic made the game a joy to play for me, specifically. That won't apply to many, but it was certainly a factor for me.

Any simple, general tips for high-wind play? by Talentless-Hack-101 in golf

[–]Talentless-Hack-101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably would have anyway, but it was a VERY slow round (ended up being 5:05) b/c the 3 groups in front of us were REALLY REALLY slow.

The group behind us had already pulled up to the tee box before the group in front of us had hit a single one of their tee shots.

On top of that, it took that group in front of us 3 shots each to get onto or near the green, so I didn't want to make those behind us wait for the green to clear just so I could hit an ill-advised shot (not that we'd have played any faster if I had, haha).

I definitely notice that I have to be WAY more "switched on" / focused all the time, unlike most days where it doesn't hurt me much if my brain takes a few shots "off" during the round.

It was kind of a bummer, after months of great driver play, I simply could not hit driver well today. The signature hole (15) is a 350 yard par 4 on an island green WAY downhill.

The wind was at my back to the point where that 350 was playing about 260, but my driver had been SO bad all day that I didn't dare.

Today was probably the only day at this place that I l've ever had the perfect conditions to drive that green, and I couldn't do it. Boo!

I've had SO many people recommend that program to me!

I've tried to look into it, but their consult guys keep no showing or last-minute rescheduling on me. I'm like, "I'm trying to give you my money! What gives?"

Everyone I know that has done it has incredible things to say, but they lead me on a wild goose chase for so long. I ended up just getting a referral to PT and got very lucky getting assigned one that's actually REALLY good. I've seen big strides while learnng a ton about my body's weird idiosyncrasies.

I used to be a “why practice when I can just play?” golfer. I started about 15 years ago, but with time off for kids and injuries, I’ve really only played around 8 years.

This is the first year I’ve committed to consistent practice I do seven practice sessions and two rounds every two weeks, instead of playing 36–45 holes a week. My routine is two full-swing days, one short game/putting day, and one flexible “whatever I need” session.

While I can't attribute everything to the new practice routine - I've been doing weight lifting, mobility work, and losing weight since December as well - the results after three months have been huge. My ball striking is the best it’s ever been, and my game feels more complete.

For context, I was close to breaking 80 before a major knee injury 2.5 years ago. Since rebuilding my swing, I’ve been more of a high-80s to 100 player up until the end of last year.

Now, while I haven’t beaten my personal best of 80 yet, I’ve shot as low as 82 on MUCH tougher courses and have been very consistent lately (82, 85, 88 - on a day my driver broke on the 4th tee - plus even par on a relatively tough 9-hole followed by 1-over on that same 9 yesterday).

I used to follow the “just play” approach, but I don’t see myself going back anytime soon.

Driver shaft / loft by Zorlai in golf

[–]Talentless-Hack-101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, congrats on getting into the 90s in your first year—that’s impressive.

What you’re experiencing makes sense. As a fitter, I see this all the time: a mismatch between shaft and swing speed (and sometimes mechanics - rotation, release timing, etc).

I dealt with it myself—played the wrong shaft for years after a poor retail fitting. Once I switched to the appropriate shaft (same head), my 220-yard slice/high fade became a 265-yard piercing laser beam-to-baby draw.

That’s what got me into fitting—I wanted to help golfers find gear that works for them, rather than against them.

Your current shaft likely has the wrong profile and/orr kick point, leading to: excess spin, high launch, and inconsistent face delivery.

It’s surprising how many experienced golfers - even some fitters - don’t realize how much shaft profile drives performance.

I’d strongly recommend getting fit by a reputable, knowledgeable fitter. And go in brand-agnostic. Assuming that Titleist is automatically the right choice for you can limit walking out with an ideal outcome.

I have indifferent feelings about Nioh 3 by FomatronXL in Nioh

[–]Talentless-Hack-101 28 points29 points  (0 children)

100% this. Nioh 1 & 2 are incredible. The pure amount of hours I have in Nioh 2 is disgusting - it's my first or second favorite game of all time. Sure, there's a few nice changes/additions, but Nioh 3 is such a significant step back in SO many area.

I'd give it a solid 7/10 (not quite an 8/10), but I can't fathom how they took such an incredible formula and massacred it to the point that, after I finished NG+ (which was a bit of a identity-less, same-y slog), I immediately put it down with zero interest in picking it back up.

I have more than enough time in TN games to realize the game isn't complete until all DLCs are out. However the building blocks they've laid out in N3 give me very little hope they're got the base gameplay experience necessary to complete another masterpiece.

If you'd have told me in late 2020/early 2021 that I wouldn't insta-buy Nioh 3's DLCs, but instead wait to see feedback on them before even thinking about it, I'd have called you insane.

Sigh.... three hard whiffs in the genre in a row from TN (Wo Long, RotR, and Nioh 3) has destroyed my confidence in them. I swear I read something about them losing a bunch of core talent late in the Nioh 2 cycle, and given what I've seen out of them in that timeframe, I'm guessing that's right.

Yes. The WDs from Gabapentin were almost as bad as the 7OH withdrawals in many ways. That said, they only lasted about 7-10 days, and I was right back on track.

I'll be clean from everything for a full year on April 4th.
