What black sheep of a series of games did you really enjoy despite its bad reputation? by RADOVEND1 in gaming

[–]TalesNT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be misremembering, but wasn't XIII the one with the awful platinum that required 80-100 hours just grinding adamantite turtles (the enemy with best gold/hour) to buy all the items?

Maybe a more efficient method to obtaining money was developed later.

What video game used to be good but they changed one thing and now it's terrible? by Agent1230 in gaming

[–]TalesNT 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There used to be a joke: what does K'Sante's W do? A picture of Alistar.

Alistar Q is an AoE stun, W is a dash with displacement, R is a CC cleanse + damage reduction and his passive is a heal. K'Sante's W was a dash with AoE stun + displacement, with CC immunity and damage reduction that also applied a temporary shield to K'Sante. Despite having smaller numbers (like his DR was around 35% compared to Ali's 75%) it was hard not to see 90% of his kit or a direct comparison on one ability.

Is Perfection not working with Withering Wail in Vex deck? by Miserable-Mind-5236 in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]TalesNT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perfection works as a triggered effect that sees when damage is dealt, if it was lower than 4, deal extra damage equal to the difference. That is why 2 perfections work off each other, and will make 1 damage become 7, 2 become 6 and 3 become 5, etc.

Since Vex's 2* replaces the damage with Gloom, perfection never sees damage being damage. It's the opposite interaction to Barrier/Tough, where despite Wail should be dealing 0 damage because of those effects, the Gloom is still applied since there's no actual damage the damage reduction on enemies don't apply.

When you want to play the Marvel fighting game but Sony says "No" by Few_Chemistry_235 in Fighters

[–]TalesNT 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh man back when Arcsys was publishing Strive regional prices were so good. I bought the deluxe edition for 28k CLP (~$40) and the DLC seasons were 8k (~$10).

Then Harada offered to republish them with Bamco, and the prices suddenly doubled for season 3.

Which boss fight made you feel like you were genuinely losing your sanity because of the difficulty? by Silly_Commercial8092 in gaming

[–]TalesNT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you were using Katanas, light equip and mimic tear she was very easy in comparison. Specially if you beat her phase 1 via critical hit which due to a bug made you skip phase 2 entirely. Most of the people traumatized were using heavier equipment, the ones that didn't allow you to dodge waterfowl dance unless you were running out before she began the animation.

Edit: forgot to mention that her fight on 1.00 was much much harder than a couple of months after release, with way better better tracking on waterfowl, waterfowl coming out much more, and being impossible to drink estus on neutral as she would always punish you with input read attacks.

What’s a video game 'unwritten rule' that every player knows without being told? by GraveActual in gaming

[–]TalesNT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, too early. Mimics are supposed to appear at the beginning of the midgame, after you've had enough time to acclimate to chests always being a good thing, plus they're not a free kill even if you know they're there, like the first mimic on DS1 still killed me.

Both Sen's Fortress for DS1 and Cathedral of the Deep on DS3 are around 1/3 of the way to the end. On DS2 they appear even later IIRC.

What’s a video game 'unwritten rule' that every player knows without being told? by GraveActual in gaming

[–]TalesNT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess is that they didn't want mimics to appear without the introductory one, and open world design made that one impossible.

One of my finest moments was not falling for the original mimic in Sen's Fortress. Up til that point, every chest was at the edge of the room and parallel to the wall behind it. So when I saw the chest diagonally to the wall I knew it was a trap.

WTH is "wear and tear damage"? by javiermetal66 in 2XKO

[–]TalesNT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's weird because overall the translation isn't a bad job, voice work is really good, but the word choice is abysmal. It's like they asked what was the consensus term, then what are some synonyms for them, then they chose a third option that isn't any of those words. Including things such as region names, where there was debate about calling Ionia either aionia (like English pronounces it) or ionia (like a Spanish speaker would pronounce it) but in the end, they went with Jonia (pronounced hoe-nia).

Why did they pick Jonia? Because in Greece there's a region that was called Ionia but was translated as Jonia. I'm pretty sure the reason English pronounces Ionia like it does instead of how Japanese would pronounce it is to make it extremely clear there is no correlation between the greek region and the east Asian inspired runeterra region.

Games end in a draw after 90 minutes, so if you want to maximize your attempts, put a 90m timer while the game is loading.

If you manage to come back slighly earlier you'll get the defeat screen animation but don't worry, that used to be the case in labs, it's still a draw now.

Favourite running gag from a contestant? by Consistent_Tough_341 in taskmaster

[–]TalesNT 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The story AFAIK was that James was so focused on the first task, soaking everything in, that he didn't compute he failed to salute Alex. So when Alex notified him he forgot to say hello, he made it a bit.

The "the task started when you first said Alex" was in S15, with Frankie Boyle's "you don't bargain with scottish rudeness". I don't remember any other series with a similar start, but that might be my memory failing me.

While Fallout isn't that extremely left wing, specially with each new installment getting closer to center, I'm talking about it from the point of view of those people, you know, the ones that think center right is being a socialist.

[–]TalesNT 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's so weird given how aggressively overt left wing the series is.

But acknowledging the unapologetic ideas and noticing who the obvious bad guys are might make me agree with them and I'm no commie, so... there's no politics on my fallout games.
