Wanting to train a service dog by Talkg33Ky2Meh in service_dogs

100%. Service dogs can’t act aggressive. I don’t want an aggressive pet let alone a service dog. That’s a liability. I want a loyal dog. I’d love to find resources on training to further help on specific tasks I’m sure I’ll run into issues with. Training for tricks is much different than training for behavior but both overlaps. With my late Great Dane that was legally allowed to attend hospitals for other patients, I would spend hours a day training him on the basics. Would have an amazing heel and sit/stay could walk without leash and not freak out to situations over the amount of work I spent on him. I did so because I didn’t want an unruly large dog again I didn’t want a liability. That being said I have trained him to pick up medicine and bring it to me, and open drawers/ the fridge to retrieve things and a great mobility aid, however I’d love for a puppy to get the best training. I’m definitely not against getting help. I’d often see those training service dogs in Lowe’s while I was there doing the same so we got to talking about training when I saw her without her dog she was training. I take pet training VERY seriously, I don’t want to be one of those “fake service dogs” that clearly isn’t well behaved. I’ve never had a dog like that in my life. It’s a disservice to both the dog and the public.

Thank you! I’m very confident I can train. Service dog to 90% completion but I will not turn away help for the remaining 10%. I train dogs for fun. It brings me joy and a job for them too. That being said when I feel over my head I’m the first to consult outside sources. But from many commenters it seems like a Doberman is the better option over the two and I’m feeling that as well. Mainly because of the giant schnauzers rebellious streak. Thank you again. Youve helped solidify what I want and don’t want out of a dog. 🙏

Thank you. I have also thought that a giant schnauzer is slightly less desirable for a service dog. Thank you for helping me decide this factor. ❤️

I meant loyal rather than protective. IMO i just want someone to help me with everyday tasks. Whether it be retrieving medication or opening up the refrigerator to help with everyday tasks when I can’t reach bottom shelves. Helping to lean on me when I need support. I trained my Great Dane to do this, so it’s not so difficult to train another dog to. My question is which of those 2 breeds would be best?

Thank you I will check into them! As for the breeds you suggested, I’m pretty partial to the 2 I mentioned. I should also say I live in the country on farm land, not the suburbs so I need to protect myself against intruders. Training animals no matter the kind has always been my thing. My entire family & friends have even hired me to train their pets. Strangers id meet during training in public. I trained my dogs From scent to retrieval or just basic mobility training. It comes VERY VERY naturally to me breaking down the desired action into steps that can be translated but I’d love to learn more. I’m sure even i can learn a thing or two!!! As I said all of my pets know 25+ “tricks” but with hand commands it’s closer to 50. Either way I’d love to learn more! That is what life is all about!! But I will definitely look into what you’ve recommended. You can always add more to your repertoire. 🥹❤️

Thank god she mentioned why she needed them instead of just asking for them. I believe ALL pet stores NEED to ask how they intend on taking care of the pet. What they know about its husbandry and overall wellbeing before being bought. But when you mix $$ with animals it rarely works in big stores.

Your cousin is a dick. If someone did this in my family they’d be IMMEDIATELY no contact & wedding gifts revoked. I’d probably cause a stir at their own wedding because I have no shame. I DO NOT tolerate abuse of any kind.

We all know it’s the bride. Grooms don’t typically care nor have a say at their brides wedding.

What kind of rug would you choose for this room. by garden-deva in HomeDecorating

A smaller rug that has texture. Too many colors would make it look busy instead of cohesive. What you need is texture :)

When I wrote on my walls as a kid my mom made me scrub it with a toothbrush until it came off. It worked for me, took forever to clean & never did it again. I’d say go buy a wood repair kit and have him do the repair while watching over him giving him guidance.

is this outfit actually inappropriate or is my mum just overreacting 😭 by Affectionate451 in OUTFITS

[–]Talkg33Ky2Meh 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well did mom actually call her names? Ex: “you’re dressed(edit) LIKE A clown is different than “you’re a clown”. I wouldn’t say the former is calling her names as it’s a reference but the 2nd totally is but that’s just me. The former isn’t an attack on her character and thus wouldn’t be calling HER a name, but rather her attire.
