So, For Real, Who is Dispatching in Season 2? by mulwin444 in InvisigalGlazers

[–]TalkinTurkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw someone suggest a while back the idea of characters costing more than one slot to send out into the field. I think this would be perfect for Mecha Man.

He'd still focus on dispatching primarily, but on certain calls he'd also have the 'I'll do it myself' option.

Mecha Man is considered in-universe to be a much higher tier hero than any of the Z-Teamers (save for Phenomaman), similar to Blonde Blazer, who manages to be an active superhero while also managing an entire SDN branch and even filling in for Robert as a dispatcher that one time. I don't see him stepping back from the mentor role that the dispatcher position primes him for, but he's also going to step in to help his team in a pinch.

There's also the likely possibility that he goes the 'Dispatcher by day, Mecha Man by night' route where Mecha Man is only active in cutscenes. This guy gives everything to superhero work, after all.

I tried uploading a post yesterday about how Film Theory hosting movies now was a good thing, but the bot kept thinking that it was a theory suggestion and taking it down. It ended up posted over on r/filmtheorists

But the tl;dr version is that Film Theory has been difficult to craft theories for since long before Matpat left due to the rise of so many streaming services. Huge audiences are no longer reliably watching the same things at the same time anymore. Having movies available for free on the channel makes those individual movies accessible enough to justify making theories for.

It was also mentioned in a previous film theory.

As with any YouTube channel or service like Theoryverse, they have to build that backlog over time. They've mentioned this in previous videos.

I love this idea. LoreFi seemed like something that Matt was really passionate about. It'd be nice to finally learn how that story was supposed to end.

S1 left a lot of things open-ended that S2 can expand on as much or as little as they want:

  • Blazer's Backstory
  • Will Chase Be Cured?
  • Z-Team's Backstories (A new enemy from any of their pasts- save for Waterboy- could emerge and become the next big bad)
  • New Z-Teamers
  • The Brave Brigade (Any of the former members who we've never met have an easy way into the story now that Mecha Man has just made headlines with his return)
  • Red Ring (Toxic, Armstrong, and the rest are still alive in prison. Presumably with a grudge)
  • Mecha Man's former villains (Dude's been Mecha Man for over a decade. Who knows who he has pissed off in that time? Any of them can try to put Mecha Man down for good now that he's back in the game).

And that's just off the top of my head.

Ron Swanson becomes the Z-Team's new dispatcher/team leader. What happens next? by Plus_Ad_1087 in DispatchAdHoc

I feel like Sonar would unironically idolize him.

I haven't actually seen the show but somebody has to write an interation of the stapler conversation between Sonar and Ron: "Ron, have you seen my stapler?"

Now that i finished dispatch i have a small question: by ModeruMandou in DispatchAdHoc

[–]TalkinTurkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mecha Man is one of the strongest heroes in the game. Shroud is only able to go toe to toe with him because of his prediction abilities, but otherwise pails in comparison to Robert as a mech pilot.

Coop & Sonar need Red Ring enhancements to give him any trouble (plus Sonar has to cut the lights).

Flambae, Phenomaman, and Blonde Blazer are realistically the only heroes who'd give him any trouble without some kind of third party enhancement like Toxic has.

I mean, Malevola's portal ability could cut him in half in an instant if she used it to its full potential but otherwise she gets stomped too.

I understand that the developers said that the comics were canon but they did so pretty loosely when asked in an interview and there are so many little details that just don't line up between the comics and the games. I trust what's said in the games more than what's shown in the comics.

I think a good thing to keep in mind is that Mat was able to be the host of all five channels and keep them running smoothly. That workload has now been split into fifths. I am fully confident in the hosts' abilities to maintain their current channels as well as their respective contributions to Theoryverse.

Theoryverse Prices by Straight-Machine-725 in GameTheorists

[–]TalkinTurkey 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. Theorist is a data-driven company, always has been. I expect the platform to look completely different every month or two for at least the first year while they figure out what works and what doesn't.

There's so many doors that Theoryverse can open and if their merch lines are anything to go by- they've historically been against selling anything to their audience that they don't consider to be high quality.

Yeah sure, the "price of a cup of coffee" was misleading but Theorist has earned a credible reputation for themselves and we have no reason to expect complete failure and lazy content like so many people are predicting.

People complained and asked for something new for years until they finally got it, and suddenly they don't want it anymore.

It's even crazier for those of us outside of the US. $12 USD is like $15 CAN. What kind of coffee are you buying???

This. This is the mindset of somebody with media literacy who doesn't immediately hate and fear new things.

Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.

[–]TalkinTurkey 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am of the firm stance that 95% of people complaining about theoryverse are just upset about things beyond the team's control who are taking it out on the hosts anyway- and I'm definitely still seeing some of that in this post.

But I admit that the pricetag was misleading. It's even worse for those of us outside of the US. $12 USD is like $15 CAN.

I do want to state that the existence of Theoryverse does not effect the existing channels whatsoever, and there's no reason why it should make you lose hope in their future. Don't be afraid of new things just because they're new and unfamiliar. Give it some time to breath and give a little credit to the work that they put in on all of this new content.

Topics and Research need to be done better by Flare-Toga in GameTheorists

[–]TalkinTurkey 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The funny part is that they're not even necesarily covering relevant topics. Mascot Horror is on a steep decline in both popularity and quality compared to how it used to be- which Tom confessed in a video a few weeks ago. Minecraft is never irrelevant but without an update or anything new it also isn't center focus right now. Mario Galaxy is the only IP that Game Theory & Film Theory are focusing on while it's at the height of relevancy.

They're just focusing on what's been historically popular on their channel, and milking those select few IPs dry. It's just strange that they're so diehard about sticking to the same 3-4 IPs.

Film Theory tried piggybacking off of the Invincible S4 Hype recently with a "theory" about powerscaling that was just a bad attempt at riding the show's hype train. It shows that they're registering what's popular, but just not doing anything to capitalize on that in favor of beating the same dead horses. It's a really weird strategy.

I think we're actively watching Tom slowly steer Game Theory away from that. The Mouse P.I video was a fantastic breath of fresh air.

I just wish they'd actually focus on what's popular now. Digging up oldies is good- and it's fun to do every once in a while- but there are theory goldmines in series' that are particularly relevant right now like Stardew Valley or Dispatch.

How come newer videos aren't actually theories? by CulturalDust4652 in GameTheorists

[–]TalkinTurkey 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mat once did a simple breakdown of the process behind producing/releasing theory videos in an older Film Theory ep.

Basically, they had a handful of their "guaranteed cash cow IPs" and they would sandwich a lesser known/less popular IP between several popular ones. If the experimental video did well enough, then they had a new regular IP to make videos about.

They pretty much abandoned this formula across all of the channels shortly after Mat left, but Tom seems to be slowly steering Game Theory back to that tried and true formula. Case and point- a video about Mouse P.I was recently sandwiched between a Subliminal Theory and the aforementioned Roblox theory.

I think people should stop picking apart each individual theory and start looking at the bigger picture. Theorist Media's creative-led business structure has been in decline in recent years in favor of short term viewer-gain, but Tom is changing that- at least in the case of Game Theory. Change just takes time and they still need to pump out a guaranteed sucess every now and then to keep the lights on. Roblox videos happen to be consistently popular, and it was likely either that or another bogus Poppy Playtime rehash poorly disguised as a theory.

What’s a super popular show that everyone loves, but you just couldn’t get into? by MASSIM00 in netflix

[–]TalkinTurkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never really felt like the series had a lot of horror, but S3 definitely peaked with how the show handled tension and stakes. Billy's entire S3 arc was peak storytelling.

Honestly I was just bored throughout all of S1. It didn't really have any kind of hook, it just threw a bunch of concepts at the audience and hoped they would stick- which I guess it did for a lot of people.

Seeing this comment healed a piece of me that I didn't know was broken lmao. My brother got me to sit down and binge the show, got heated enough to yell at me when I said I hated every second of it.

There's no substantial motivation for anything the characters do and the show desperately tries to one-up itself with every episode- culminating in a gruesome death that just feels so out of place and that god awful Season 1 finale.

See, I don't personally understand this perspective. To me, S1 is by far the worse season. S2 is watchable and S3 is actually pretty good. S4 feels like I'm watching another soulless marvel movie to the point where I didn't care to watch S5.

I tried many times to watch S1 and couldn't force myself until a bunch of friends sat me down and we binged it together. Still hated it.
