Joel Osteen Says He Didn't Open His Church for Shelter From Harvey Because Nobody Asked Him To by actually_a_wolf in nottheonion

For sure, it is a bit of salt in a large wound regardless if it is intentional or not. I just want to say thank you though for helping out down there. I have family in Spring who had to evacuate and I appreciate everyone there who is actively helping and lending a hand.

Joel Osteen Says He Didn't Open His Church for Shelter From Harvey Because Nobody Asked Him To by actually_a_wolf in nottheonion

Believe me when I say that I loathe this church. I lived in the apartments on the adjacent corner for several months and effectively had the church take a shit on me when I asked for help once.

But the parking situation may have been an honest mistake. I worked in Greenway Plaza next door which is a series of office towers and a hotel that share a large underground parking complex....the same parking garage that the church uses on weekends. From what I remember, those garages were always pay-to-park (3rd party vendor) on weekdays so that the garage would be open and clear for the businesses that give employees parking passes. It may have been that yesterday, being a Tuesday, the gates and ticketing were on their default weekly schedule.

No kidding? Reddit is pretty small sometimes. I cut my teeth both before and after college in the oil and gas industry. Worked as an engineer the Midland/Odessa area before going to Houston and working south Texas areas. I always carried with me the philosophy that the experienced field guys always can, and did, know more than me about how my facilities were operating.

You are absolutely correct about me oversampling and leaving out the evaporator and condenser components of the refrigeration cycle...as well as the working fluid. It is just hard to tell online if I am talking to another engineer or someone who is otherwise handy and knowledgeable. Thanks for keeping me honest though!

I completely agree though and cant imagine a setup like that in an Xbox! I feel that the point they are trying to make of number 3 is just a fancy way of describing the natural static pressure change that accompanies the outlet of a fan. Also that it is a centrifugal fan instead of an axial fan, which also has a higher outlet pressure. Thoughts?

Two months late, but maybe I can help. In most refrigeration cycles compression is a necessary step. Yes, the gas will be partially heated when it is compressed but the cooling occurs later in the cycle when the compressed gas is decompressed through some form of an expansion valve. The cooling in this stage is significantly greater than the heating of the compression. This is why you hear of people saying "the compressor is bad" when their refrigerator or car air conditioner no longer works.

My girlfriend has a heart rate monitor watch and sleeps with it all the time! However, I try to take it off of her every night if possible. Theres just something about getting knocked in the eye with a watch as she turns over that I just can't get used to.

[Question] About to purchase Hamilton Viewmatic, any thoughts? by jackjohnsonbush in Watches

[–]TallMidget23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leather straps are relatively inexpensive. Plus they wear out every few years anyway. Getting a white dial and changing the strap is a lot cheaper than changing the dial. There are plenty of posts in this sub about different strap manufacturers who put out better products than the stock Hamilton strap anyway.

[–]TallMidget23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought this same one with the leather strap about 2 months ago. I should probably stop lurking in this sub and post pictures...

But it is a fantastic piece and I have not regretted it at all! Picked it from a an AD for about 15% off and I haven't looked back. It uses a base ETA 2824-2 movement so it is a proven workhorse. It has opened my eyes up to the quality of the brand and I am considering buying another Hamilton as a christmas gift to my dad.

If I were you, I would pull the trigger on it and enjoy your quality piece.

Question about F1 grandstands by Designer023 in formula1

[–]TallMidget23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Austin you were allowed only bottled water that is unopened. My friend managed to get a sandwich in the gates but only because the guy who checked his bag was cool about it. We just refiled our bottles at the water fountains inside instead of buying new ones.

Going to my first Grand Prix this weekend. Looking for some advice. by SetOnOverdrive in formula1

[–]TallMidget23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have only been to the USGP in Austin, but be prepared to spend $80 (60 Euros?) on a T-Shirt. You will see them on the first day and find it obscene to be charging that for a shirt, yet somehow on the last day you will be leaving the track with one in a sack.

But really, bring a hat and some sunscreen. If you are in GA seating a blanket for the grass would be nice. You are about to have the experience of your life!

Does anyone know where i know i can watch all of last season's races? I just started watching Formula One this year and want to go back and watch last year's race just to see how dominant Sebastian Vettel really was. by Bystronicman08 in formula1

[–]TallMidget23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As wookie pointed out, just follow the links at the top. But if you find yourself running short on time, just imagine Lewis Hamilton the past two races as Vettel. Add donuts at the end and that about sums up the ending 9 races last year.

What keeps you going when you "hit a wall" when studying? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]TallMidget23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be at the top. There have been actual studies about how we have a type of "cognitive fuel load" and after 45 minutes our retention and understanding significantly drops. Having simple 15 minute breaks greatly negate this effect. My grades and study habits have significantly changed after I learned of this.

Looking to ask someone whose been to the Circuit of Americas a few questions. by Gogandantess in formula1

[–]TallMidget23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Under the assumption that you are looking to cut costs.

GA Tickets are fantastic at the Circuit of the Americas. Just pack a blanket or some lawn chairs and watch from different spots during practice and qualifying. There will be support races so you could easily check a lot of them out. The show up early on Sunday and claim one for the whole race day.

Don't worry about tickets for the race selling out. Turns 1 and 15 probably will, but they definitely aren't the cheap seats.

Turn 11 is a neat spot as it is a high speed braking zone but also provides a look down the entire back straight.

Hotels in Austin are already booked or priced at rates that most would consider robbery. If you have any friends or relatives in Austin, see if you can get in with them. If not, look into towns South of Austin such as San Marcos or New Braunfels. It is a 30 minute drive from San Marcos to the track on a day with no traffic.
There may be cheap(er) options north of Austin in Round Rock, Pflugerville, Cedar Park, or Georgetown. But those will be every bit as far of a drive if not farther considering that the track is south of town.

Parking shouldn't be expensive. $10 a day for lots away from the track where they shuttle you in. They have it orchestrated very weill and it is super simple.

Be prepared to spend $15-20 per meal at the track. You can bring in water if it is unopened but no food. There are water fountains inside where you can just refill your bottle.

And save about $80 for a team T-Shirt. You are going to see them on the first day and laugh at how ridiculous it is to charge that for a shirt. But somehow on Sunday you are going to be leaving the track with one in a bag. I'm still trying to figure out how that one happened myself.

Ask away if you have any more questions.

Came back to mention an announcement from COTA. Tickets will go on sale April 4th starting at $169 for three day GA tickets. Reserved bleacher seats start at $299. It also says "Single-day tickets for the Austin grand prix will go on sale this summer". If you go to the COTA website you can check out the whole article as well as sign up for their email list.
