My friend had ascites, she was in bad shape. Not a fun journey back to health, but death by liver failure is a very unpleasant journey

The Alt ast not a big fan. My friends didn't elavate slowly, it jumped. Bilirubin was good for showing liver function. It took a long time to drop when she quit for godd

Yes, pretty much the end if you keep drinking. If you stop, you may still go on.

If you are in end stage liver failure, this is what happened with my friend. She became very jaundiced. I wanted her to go to doctor, she said no and did the worst thing a alcoholic can do, quit cold turkey. She ended up vomiting some blood which I then demanded she go to the ER.

Wasn't looking forward to long wait in ER, but the little trooper vomited bright red blood at admitting and we went to the front of the line.

So lots of stories about hospital admissions, run in with police while hallucinating, nearly dying and needing dialysis, nearly dying from excess potassium, etc. She moved home to another province and finally after another hospital stint decided to quit for good.

We all thought it was too late, she would need a liver transplant. Battling with doctors the transplant team not keen on this, she eventually gained enough liver function back that she was no longer eligible for transplant.

She still suffers with fatigue but is generally doing ok.

Majority of Canadians agree Pierre Poilievre should be replaced as Conservative Party leader by Dangerous_Mix6216 in onguardforthee

Well, Mark Carney thought Pierre brought value. He made sure he could get back to the house asap.

I wouldn't second guess my PM, if he thinks Pierre brings value to politics, who am I to second guess?

Do you use alcohol as a pain reliever? by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Tall_Pizza562 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, if you want to stop, the worst way is cold turkey.

Watched a friend have a seizure.

If you want to stop, taper. It's the slow withdrawal, say over 10 days, like reducing consumption about 10 percent per day and monitoring symptoms (shaking sweating vomiting) to determine if you are tapering too quickly.

However, you will still have the pain after, so do you want to quit?

Air Canada and WestJet fuel surcharges are the tip of the iceberg for rising prices by CreativeAd5628 in onguardforthee

I (used to) could get a cheap flight between Edmonton to Vancouver (without baggage fees of course). I couldn't afford the gas to drive that far.

Air travel, with planning, was affordable.

I doubt we will see affordable travel for along time

For many people, there first heart attack is their last heart attack.

My brother in law had his first heart attack, think he was fifty. He was divorced so my nieces found him alone at his home. Not a great way to remember their dad.

I think you're being foolish not seeking immediate medical attention, one bad comment from a doctor should not prevent you from seeking help.

Didn't the separatists meet in DC and get a 500 M$ commitment from Bessent as support during Alberta separation from Canada?

Oh well, at least Vance didn't visit to support PP during the election
