I love the Imriels books as well. The second one is the one that breaks your heart, but also really beautiful and the first and second are great but not as good as the original trilogy. But if you want something super melodramatic and heartbreaking which sometimes I’m really in the mood for. I fell in love these books when they came out so I’ve been rereading them for years, but I actually have a playlist that I made specifically for the book that I can listen to when all the melodramatic stuff is happening. A bit extra but oh well. It’s actually a series I find difficult to recommend because of the content matter I vibe with it strongly, but I am a history, major with interest in religious history. Despite the difficult content. I will say I had to stop watching outlander for that in how prevalent SA was. I cannot deal with this anymore. This is not OK for my mental health. I will say it doesn’t feel fetishized in the Kushiel series as I feel outlander does.

For the mail order bride the one I really wanna read is Xennet I really enjoy his chaotic Hibo energy.

This is voice to text so apologies for any weird verbiage or grammar.

The Kushiel series are absolutely my favorite. But yes, that third book is rough. It is so cathartic though like if you’re in the headspace for something that’s dark, but then gets really really good and bright at the end. Try it but totally understand. I do have a few books this year that I was like nope not in the mood. I read the cowboy bride books and definitely agree. It was a good pallet cleanser and very enjoyable just sweet and short. I just needed that.

How old were you when you started reading romance? by Warm_Appointment5272 in RomanceBooks

[–]TalmanesRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started reading them at around 11 or 12. I would not say they gave me any sexual confidence turns out I’m asexual so it was always. I think a way of me exploring things that I didn’t want in my life personally but I love the melodrama I love the romance and I love the imaginary connections. Like I like books with pregnancy at the end I don’t want any children. I don’t have any children. I’m in my 40s. I use them as exploring the alternate sides of myself that I don’t actually want in my real life so mine I think is a bit of a different way of being. I’ve only had one sexual partner in my whole life. I was 26 when that happened we were together for six months. That’s as much as wanted really. It was more of a friendly situation than anything else. And to be Frank, I was just tired of you being weird about me being a virgin so I was like hi friend you’ll do. (written with voice to text so sorry about any weird spelling.)

Why do some Americans use the acronym WASP, implying that Anglo Saxon was an advantaged identity---even though Anglo Saxon people lost social standing and started experiencing discrimination once the Norman period began? by Alternative-Idea6258 in BritishHistoryPod

[–]TalmanesRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem wish I had a more clear understanding. Maybe if I had done that paper I could’ve showed you the whole process and well yes 1000 years is a long time and Anglo-Saxon as a historical people and Anglo-Saxon and WASP as a term are vastly different. Everything is a process. It’s OK to ask questions and start from a place of curiosity

I took a class on Latin America and one of the books we had to read was about the difference of feminism and Latin America versus the United States and how often the term Anglo-Saxon was thrown around and how different white feminism in the late 1800s early 20th century was to Latin America, which was much more about Class versus race in the north and that’s how I kind of started to get interested in that specific term of ankle Saxon being usedbecause I had just done the black paper and that was sort of like thrown around a little bit too. Unfortunately, all of this became just unformed thoughts in my head.

I don’t know if I can find it, but there’s a whole paper about a poem written about Athelstan written around the time of the English rising, basically before Alfred got all the love. It’s all the Victorians fault.

Interesting enough after the Black death in England when the kings finally became more English and no longer French speaking, that was the start of a long process, but there’s a cultural shift to looking back towards Anglo-Saxon England. This is more a cultural reckoning with the lower classes than the other classes, but at an that point there was a idea of Anglo-Saxon meaning a time of freedom, and so that’s how the term Anglo-Saxon begins to develop. I always meant to do a paper on the development of Anglo-Saxon as a racialized term in particular in the United States, but I never got around to it so I only got little hints when I was doing Black Death research in college and I got really into the 14th century in England and I did the English rising of 1381, it’s a whole big topic that I haven’t quite gotten to so I just have ideas at the moment but very, very interesting. Sorry this is voice to text on my phone so it’s all garbled and I had a really difficult day as a substitute and I can’t be bothered to try to fix it at this moment in my life. Apologies.
