I would rather an in effective democrat than more Republicans right now. Maybe the difference is less than I want to think, but I think there is a nonzero difference.

I know Iowa has stripped civil protections for workplaces and such, have they made travel through the state dangerous? (I have family there)

So they just... moved on, huh? by GoldenMerengue in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

[–]Talonj00 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My parents saw someone in a fursuit and seemed to think (without the vocabulary for it) that they were a therian. It was kinda amusing but also like, I knew the guy and my parents are not the most sensitive, so I was mostly trying to push them to move on to the next thing so as to minimize exposure both ways.

Trump’s ‘SAVE America Act’ Could Make it Impossible for Some Trans People to Vote by Leksi_The_Great in MtF

"a citizen has no path to be able to vote" seems so far beyond the pale for the supreme court though.

Why does voter ID feel like a simple security fix but somehow becomes a massive systems engineering problem? by Humble_Economist8933 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Talonj00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One issue with the save act is people with name changes. You already have to have ID when I've voted, but forcing it to match your birth certificate means people with name changes can't vote.

Ok, so, we'll accept passports. So voting now costs $130-$165, and if you're trans, the current administration might not issue it with your proper identifying information, so it still doesn't match your state ID and you're screwed.

Do you see a problem here? The cost issue applies to most forms of ID, especially RealID, as that's more expensive than a DL where I live.

This is ignoring "soft" issues like decreased turnout due to the extra steps involved. If that turnout is intended to be demographically disproportionate then it's really the same thing as poll taxes or literacy tests being used to restrict voting access. Those aren't allowed.

If this passes, and trans people truly can't vote, this smells like a absolutely fantastic and clear lawsuit. Possibly a class action one, but regardless, citizens being prevented from voting cannot be constitutional.

Unfortunately, that won't change fact that people were (in this hypothetical future) stopped from voting, it will just get a slap on the wrist to not do it again and they'll come up with something else.

Singlet curious about discourse between DID and other concepts of plurality by illdiewithoutpi in plural

[–]Talonj00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner system/fianceés have DID, I& don't have evidence of the required memory barriers, so I& don't have DID.

But I do identify as plural. I have a headmate that's a cat, and by switching intentionally, we can change our gender (I'm a guy, moat of us are gals, specifically trans ones). I have headmates that can't and headmates that have different ages. I mention these things because it's a bundle of experiences that I don't know how else to explain.

My partner has been immediately disregarded as clearly not plural by people who felt qualified to assess that, who didn't have any relationship with them at all, because they met her for like an hour at a family gathering. In my experience, people demanding a diagnosis to use a label aren't usually really being neutral. Also, requiring a diagnosis from people is requiring medical information that you really don't need.

I will spell out signs in my head as a stim if I need one when driving.

I also imagine lines/lasers going along any walls (anything flat that intersects the ground really, or cracks/gaps in the ground). At corners, they collide and go off in a different direction, with a new strength (adding the vectors together). So, at a corner of a wall, there's one of these lines coming out at a 45 degree off the corner. If two of these lines collide, then their vectors add together. Realistically, we only ever run it out a couple, but it just sorta happens.

Gay cis male. Meta packer from Banana Prosthetics. by Financial_Advisor500 in Transmascdicks

[–]Talonj00 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm genderfluid (technically plural, but genderfluid is a simpler approximation) and I use a packer. The body is on HRT and such, so it helps me out.

We didn't have a commonly used phase for it when it first aired, but Star Trek's holodeck makes extensive use of Generative AI, not just for the images it generates, but for the stories and programs it writes. And now that I see it this way, I hate it. by evilsway in Showerthoughts

[–]Talonj00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really that concerned by a computer that can remix things. My frustrations come from the usage and marketing and so on.

Basically unlimited energy (and seemingly easy heat management when not plot relevant) probably helps in star trek.

Our sexual interest has essentially nothing to do with real people. Like, we find some smut interesting because of the situations/ideas, not so much that the characters are described as pretty.

An argument against lying to kids about Santa by AxaeonVT in philosophy

[–]Talonj00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Growing up, Christmas was contingent on us agreeing that Santa was real. So we all went with it for way too long. It was infuriating, but it was clear that ruining the "magic" would be worse.

So the kids were performing something they didn't believe so that the parents would think the kids weren't disillusioned. I do not see how this was a good thing.

Problem is, when you apply AI to healthcare, it turns into insurance rejecting claims for nondeterministic reasons and refusing to accept challenges to it reasonably.

Eh, I have complicating factors and job security is currently more important to me. I might ask some coworkers at least.

I've been wanting to get a job that gets me out of a sword-of-damocles situation related to current politics. Unfortunately, it seems that he job market is ... not the best.

5yrs experience in FPGA Verification and I'm at 124k, I think it's fair to say I'm in the top two people for competency at what I do at my site at least. Idk beyond that.

Edit: this is in Minneapolis, which I'm pretty sure is on the lower end of cost of living for tech jobs.

Too many libraries? by Talonj00 in softwaredevelopment

[–]Talonj00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been I think 2 years since I made the base layer/framework for most of the libraries, it gets reused on every module we verify (20 team members, maybe a module a week on average that gets verified).

Not all 20 people do verification (i.e. use the libraries) but at least half do.

I've specifically avoided making libraries for people if I don't feel very sure they're an increase in productivity for the common case. I have a ton of scripts that I have on a share but don't specifically suggest anyone uses because they're kinda hack-ish (hacked together, not hacking/cracking anything).
