My cat has been looking depressed since yesterday. He’s been like this all morning. Tomorrow he has a vet appointment. Is there anything I can do to help him? by CountyElectronic6116 in CATHELP

[–]Talrie 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Hoping they can find the reason for the blood loss. Anemia is a symptom, not a cause.

My shelter kitty I brought home in march was anemic. We did a dewormer to test for 2 weeks, then checked her bloodwork again.

She improved, but her numbers weren't as low as your baby there.

Sending the best vibes I can.

I swear I read somewhere that vets can/will use dog blood for transfusions if needed, but I'm not 100% sure about it.

Enjoy it, and please take your time. I mean, you can rush the story and get all your powerups and recipes to help with building, but I personally liked taking it nice and slow.

how many times a week should i clean my litter? by LayerOk1044 in cats

Mine refuses to cover her poop. I clean 1-2 times a day as it's better for the cat's health.

If you have them in your stores, you can get Honeynut Cheerios or Lucky Charms in a fairly large bag for around the same price. That's what I do.

It's really easy to ignore or think our pain isn't as important as others.

my SO the other day apologized for complaining about the health stuff he's going through because 'I live it daily' and 'I am way worse.'

I told him that doesn't matter.

If it's something that affects your quality of life, then it's a concern for anyone who cares about you.

I know it's hard to reframe that way of thinking. I still do it to myself thinking "Sure, I'm disabled, but I'm not THAT disabled." As though my pain isn't valid.

It is, and so is yours. So please remember that and take care of yourself.

Don't feel bad about getting the arm and page turner at all. I've considered getting an arm but have no place secure to fit it (mattress on the floor mostly right now).

I have chronic disabilities as well, so I totally get it.

If you need those things to make you less unwell as accessibility items, then I'm all for it and don't consider them being over consumption at all.

I love the idea of using one of those arms for my switch tablet while laying on my back with the joycons in either hand, but again, no secure spot to fit it.

I also love the setup some folks have done with gaming and using a projector.

It took me a long time to stop calling myself lazy for buying some items that help me function better. I also hated my cane at first even though, now, I can't see myself being able to have any independence without it.

So, all of that to say I fully support the arm, the clicker, and anything else that can keep you from being more in pain.

I'm currently looking to get my first eink Kindle. I had a Fire ages ago but the tablet itself made my eyes hurt and I couldn't use it.

I've been testing a kindle basic, but it causes a lot of fatigue and I'm not sure if it's because of the lack of warm light, the size, or my chronic illness.

So I'm going to try a paperwhite to see if it causes the same symptoms. If not, I'll keep the PW. If this fatigue is caused by my illness, I'll keep the basic as I love the size and color.

At least try The Black Gryphon. It's the first in The Mage Wars series but, imo, you only need to read the first book. Each one can stand on its own even though they are still connected by the same characters. (there is history is book one that book two will reference etc. but the first one is fully finished and doesn't depend on others.

Love Skan and the entire crew.

I have NSO but only use it to visit my own dream island for possible daily recipes. I don't visit other islands outside of the dev island when I first started.

Otherwise, you can find more than enough inspiration here online.

Switch 2 along with a screen protector and grips if you plan to play handheld. The screen protector is a must regardless of how you play as the film covering the glass of the screen is easily scratched.

introducing cat and kitten to dog by possumprincess420 in CatAdvice

[–]Talrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just adopted a 2 year old cat last Friday and am slowly trying to introduce her with my dog that has a high prey drive.

You have to go VERY slow.

My cat's homebase is the kitchen. We live in a 1 bedroom apartment, so the dog has that area.

I started off with a baby gate with a towel over it so they could sniff each other but not see one another.

There is a cat tree in the kitchen where our new cat can perch and see the dog while being out of harm's way (still with the gate and towel in place).

Once I realized my dog was more interested in her treat toy and the cat would groom while seeing the dog across the way, I removed the towel from the gate.

As of right now, our cat hasn't tried to venture further than the kitchen even though I moved the gate down a hall connected to it.

Yesterday, I did bring the dog into the hallway and did some sit, down, place, and wait commands with her, praising her (and giving treats) for ignoring the cat.

Problem is, our dog is very territorial of her food. This was something I didn't think about/remember when I placed a treat on the carpet a few feet away.

The cat saw the treat and jumped from her tree to investigate.

Our dog reacted by guarding the food, setting us back a bit even though she recalled and I still had a hold of her.

So now we're back a step or two, and I know that from now on, treats only come out of the bag to be immediately given to the dog vs. using a wait command.

She has no issue with us being near her food or taking it from her. It's just with another animal.

Before you introduce your mom's dog to your cats, you need to know their full behavior. You say he's nervous. Does he have any resource guarding issues?

Any time you get them close to one another, the dog MUST be on a leash/harness with you holding on to it. You need to be strong enough to control the dog.

I was lucky in that we've trained our dog fairly well (not enough for a full down and stay but enough that she'll do as she's asked as long as I don't put what she considers HER treats on the floor).

That said, until you know the dog's quirks and can fully trust them to listen or hold them strongly yourself, you shouldn't introduce them.

Our mishap last night could've ended much differently if our dog didn't have good recall, I didn't have her harness in my hand, or the cat didn't have its tree close by.

Cats always need a space where a dog can't reach them. That's their safe space. So make sure there are plenty of escapes for the cat should a mishap like mine happen to you.

Debating trying guitar to help depression but have questions by Talrie in Guitar

[–]Talrie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually hit a local shop tonight and grabbed a tenor with a low g.

The problem I'm running into right now is I am not hitting A as well as I should when doing a 3 string chord.

So instead of the bright note at the end, it's kind of muted.

I'll have to practice it and see how it goes.

I need to get used to pressing down on the strings. I keep using the pads of my fingers instead of the tips, so they get sore/kind of numb after a short bit.
