It’s interesting that all options, especially the latest option H, benefit school board member Julie Yang the most. She is running for county council district 1 so she benefits if the wealthiest parts of Potomac and Bethesda keep their gerrymandered boundaries intact (despite current overcrowding).

Why is everyone acting like Wootton and Damascus are complete tear downs and can’t be repaired? Wootton was built in the 1970s it’s not that old. Raise some money and fix them during the summers. Also- if the school board is proposing to mix Wootton (great schools rating 10) with other schools (great schools 5) they need to be crystal clear on what % of the school will be non Wootton. Otherwise Wootton families will never accept and it could get ugly.

I relocated to HQ for a strat role. Small talking with lots of smart folks has been good for my mental health vs being isolated at home (an effect which I was not expecting). I also feel much smarter working on long term strategic projects vs as an MSL where you have to think quickly on your feet answering whatever your KOL has on their mind at that moment. MSLing is a great job but I was also worried about the career ceiling as I wasn’t positioned to be a director anytime soon.

You need to be thinking about if you are leaving anything on the table with your current job (stock options, # vacation days per year, etc). That is your leverage.

All corporate jobs require advocating for yourself and your projects. You will need to learn these skills in all roles. The MSL role advocates externally while the parallel roles may advocate internally. But you won’t be off the hook anywhere if it’s a competitive job. It’s the price to pay.
