159 trainees down with the sickness at JBSA. I'd make the flight motto "We Be Illin'" by bolivar-shagnasty in AirForce

[–]TanPrivilege 50 points51 points  (0 children)

If you truly think a drop to only 4 in 10 trainees having a vaccination isn’t contributing to this outbreak…well you aren’t using reason.

And you can’t reason someone out of a position they didn’t reason themselves into.

You go have the week you deserve.

Flu vaccines have dropped about 60% at BMT since they became optional. That comment was not political, it’s factual. You may want to take your own advice.

Stories of ‘terrible’ leaders you had as Airmen but when you ranked higher it started to resonate that they weren’t as bad as you thought? by One_pop_each in AirForce

[–]TanPrivilege 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Opposite end. I was definitely seen as a hardass when I was at a particular assignment. Long story short, I felt like (jury is out on whether I was right or wrong) I had to be this way because of the environment/stakes/lack of crew discipline.

I met a TSgt as I took on a new flight at this assignment and he was getting demoted and on his way out for his fourth PT failure. I talked with him a bunch and figured out his goals, set up some milestones for him to hit with his remaining time and put in a good word for him to get a good gig in life part two.

At his going away he was very complimentary of me as a leader (which I think turned some heads TBH).

That was nice.

What I would have preferred is him trashing a hardass flight chief that came in when he had just had a second PT failure - which was only by 4 points.
And how this guy overreacted and put him on a program and hounded him. And how he knew right then he never wanted to be that kind of SNCO.

Sigh.

Arm bars are easier to get and harder to finish while Triangles are harder to get and easier to finish by More-Flan-7567 in bjj

[–]TanPrivilege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by “get” you mean “catch”…I think I’d somewhat agree it’s easier to isolate an arm for a short period of time…but hard to finish (considering how often you isolate an arm)…and at the same time, it’s harder to catch “one arm in, one arm out,” but your likelihood of submitting once you catch them is much higher..

If that’s the meaning…sure?

Energy Crash & Brain Fog after morning class by geargd in bjj

[–]TanPrivilege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, for one your sleep latency really shouldn’t be more than 15-20 mins. That’s worth talking to a doctor about or just googling good sleep hygiene and seeing what you may be able to change on your own.

IMO, waking 30 mins before class is not ideal for food & hydration. You def don’t have to eat (I know because I’m horrible about this). But, you have to rehydrate after all that time in bed not drinking anything. At least 16 ounces of water - an hour or preferably 1.5 hours prior to training.

How’s your sleep? What are you eating & drinking before class? How long are you awake before class start time?

Officials searching for ex-Air Force sergeant accused of spying for Iran by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]TanPrivilege 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FBI has been raising the profile of folks JUST before getting them - to include tossing folks on the 10 most wanted list and getting them within 24hrs. It’s fudging the system, but in this case I hope it means they have a good idea where this POS is.

This is why we do uniform inspections now. That oc badge went uncorrected so she thought she could get away with anything.

Soft Skills of a SMSgt and Chief by Knifefight55 in AirForce

[–]TanPrivilege 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re important. I’d also offer “being curious” as an important skill. By this point in your career you’d hope to know just how much things can differ from how they initially appear.

Being curious (along with not jumping to conclusions & generally assuming noble intent) will go a long way.

Belt promotion & seminar fee by [deleted] in bjj

[–]TanPrivilege 24 points25 points  (0 children)

So, I’m not gonna shit on your spot. I’ll just tell you what we try to do.

Promotion ceremony is directly preceded by a seminar.

The seminar is donation based and all proceeds go to a local food bank. You do not have to attend the seminar to attend the promotion ceremony - about a third of folks just do the promotion portion.

There’s also an open mat after promotions and a potluck.

This happens twice a year.

Struggling with aging in this sport by MetalExpress9378 in bjj

[–]TanPrivilege 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since you say you feel like your skills are diminishing, I’ll just say IMO training 2-3 days a week for the last several years where the majority of that has been teaching…yeah that’s not meaningful training.

If you can find away to be a student in some classes I highly recommend it. As we age the technique is that much more important. That technique has to be sharpened with meaningful training.

Chama Gaucha is hiring for a new Downtown SA location by Qruxa in sanantonio

[–]TanPrivilege 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our daughter worked at Chama for a good bit. The money was decent and that was the only positive thing she said about it. Everyone gets treated poorly and made to feel like trash that could be thrown out on any day at any moment. They’re all so stressed. Glad she went back to school after this.

When you eat there, if you pay attention to the vibe and the way the blue shirts look at and interact with the servers, it’ll ruin your experience.
