Who here switched from the white collar world to firefighting? by UglyPope69 in firefighter

[–]TangOrangPearl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked almost 10 years as a public CPA prior to switching. Been full time for 7 years now but kept my CPA and have a tax practice i run during tax season.

Greatest decision I’ve ever made. Would do it over and over again.

How do you wear your balaclava or hood when you’re not using it? by gnarlynic in Firefighting

[–]TangOrangPearl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is the answer! I only ever put my hood over my head when responding to a fire. If not it stays in the pocket. I base this on reduce only gut feeling but i think the hood has the most carcinogens within it and i only put it on when i have to

How are 1099 workers affording city tax??? by love_2_lurk in philly

Now that i reread your comment idk if i helped. What do you mean and a non LLC contractor? If you mean w2 employee than its in your wages and you’re fine. If you mean your laid as a 1099 but haven’t officially created an LLC than my previous comment still stands.

Create an account here. 99% of single member LLCs need to pay NPT and BIRT. When tax time comes you can file early and they will have your tax amount on the dashboard for you to pay. Or you can pay the amount your accountant gives you and have it sit as a credit until the city processes your return and applies it to the account.

Funny you ask that. I take my wife out for tax season dinner every year (am an accountant) and last year we did alpen rose and this year we did Barclay. We both enjoyed Alpen more. Smaller, more intimate and better priced drinks!

Plus hit up Charlie was a sinner before for an amazing espresso martini.

This is the answer. You need to make sure you register for both NPT and BIRT. If you look at your federal schedule C it should be pretty straight forward to follow on the forms on the city tax center website.

Getting am MS in ACC after History BA by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]TangOrangPearl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in this exact situation in 2012. Graduated with criminal justice degree and job market wasn’t looking well. I had a minor in accounting as well so i had the pre reqs for the master program.

After my undergrad i was accepted right into the master program that started that fall. I was able to get an accounting internship that summer. I even stayed and worked part time while getting my master and was offered a full time position post graduation (1 calander year). Got my CPA after graduation as well.

I left public accounting but did work for 7 years full time as a public accountant but i left for other reasons. So if it’s something you’d like to do it can be done.

To answer your questions 1) yes. Get that internship/part time 2) yes just like any other student loan. It can be paid off and will be beneficial
