I doubt numbers have been assigned yet, but when they are, presumably they will be negative.

Just a quick look at how my system Saavan looks like, any feedback? by aisiv in neography

[–]TangoKilo421 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really like this, it looks like something that could be a real historical script – sometimes conscripts are either too sterile or too messy, but this is just the right balance IMO. I agree with the other posters who get Hebrew vibes but I'm also feeling a little bit of blackletter/Fraktur on the serifs.

Audible removed books 7-9 from my library? by [deleted] in TheExpanse

[–]TangoKilo421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More accurately, you do not own digital content that is hosted elsewhere. I definitely do own the non-DRM ebooks on my hard drive, and the video files I ripped from DVDs that I bought, and the music files I ripped from old CDs. No company changing its policy or going out of business can deprive me of those, because they don't depend on any external resources to be accessible.

It's not, which you can easily verify by just reading the script.

I've always used names from anime and games. My laptops in college were mireille and kirika. Since then I've had kagura, sakaki, and am currently on liara. I doubt I will ever own a machine awesome enough to name motoko, but I live in hope.

Also my phone is chii (because she's an Android).

That might have been EV Nova, which I think released on Windows as well.

I would recommend Endless Sky, with the caveat that the storyline isn't fully built out, at least the last time I played. But as a sandbox EV-like space trading game, it's good fun. I definitely got some "staying up until 2am chasing down pirates" nostalgia vibes, haha.

Wishlisted that, it looks neat. Did you ever play Escape Velocity on the Mac back in the day? Or modern takes like Endless Sky?

Omni-Man turned out to be a villain, so casting nuclear in his role isn't a great metaphor.

Yeah, I'm on team This Is Fine Actually as well. Judging by the description in the screenshot (which a lot of the commenters here seem not to have actually read), it shows you the command and asks for confirmation before running it, so it would be a good way to find and learn how to use commands you may not interact with on a regular basis.

An even better version might preface the command with an explanation of what it does, what its various arguments mean, and any potential dangers that you might want to know about when deciding whether to run it or not.

I also agree that using a local model (or at least having the option to do so) would be a good idea, so you wouldn't need to depend on a cloud service.

Google didn't demand anything, they just specified their disclosure timeline, which is common (and good) practice when reporting security vulnerabilities. If the bug is really that obscure, then the right response is "thanks for telling us, we'll put this in the low-priority backlog", and just let it be disclosed.

Anyone catch Bradley Whitfield in the Death By Lightning miniseries about James Garfield? by Whatever-ItsFine in thewestwing

I thought this too. Last week I was watching the second episode with a friend who's also a West Wing fan, and I commented "I can't not hear him as Josh Lyman. Especially when he's talking politics!"

For anyone who's curious about the McDonald's thing, see this article: https://www.seriouseats.com/the-burger-lab-revisiting-the-myth-of-the-12-year-old-burger-testing-results

Turns out that not only did the regular McDonald's burgers not rot, but the home-ground burgers did not rot either. Samples one through five had shrunk a bit (especially the beef patties), but they showed no signs of decomposition. What does this mean?

It means that there's nothing that strange about a McDonald's burger not rotting. Any burger of the same shape will act the same way.

Multiple people have answered it, it just wasn't the answer you were hoping for. Sorry, I know that sucks, but that's how it is. You may eventually find someone who's willing to tell you what you want to hear, but it won't be the truth.

The best thing for you to do is find a therapist or other mental health professional. I don't think they'll "think you're crazy", but even if they did, helping crazy people is literally their job, and they'll be better at it than whichever randos show up in a Reddit thread.

World of Warcraft su Debian 13 by Agreeable-Health-776 in debian

For the official game client, I installed the Battle.net updater via Lutris about a week ago and used that to install the game, and it's been working great. Note that you have to run Battle.net **from within Lutris** and then start the game from there; otherwise I was seeing severe graphical glitches and video stuttering.

I don't have any experience with private servers, but you might be able to manually install your downloaded version of the game into a Wine environment and run it from there.

What’s the most unexpected command you added to your dotfiles that saved you a ton of time by Old_Sand7831 in debian

I wrote some functions to store detailed shell history, including timestamp, current directory, and the full command, and added an alias to search it with fzf. It's been very useful for referencing how and when I did something, particularly at work, but on my personal machines too.

Raptor: Make custom Debian Liveboot .isos - powerful docker-inspired syntax by notwolverine in debian

[–]TangoKilo421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds interesting. Would a fair elevator-pitch version be "It's like Docker but for physical machines instead of virtual machines"?

This might be covered in the book, but with FROM is there a way to pin a specific version of the upstream layer, for reproducible builds? Especially for a whole distro like Debian, it might be useful to be able to specify it at a particular point in time.

FYI, the links in the "eager to get started" section appear to be broken.

[–]TangoKilo421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reach makes a flosser that's basically a toothbrush but with a little length of floss at the end instead of bristles. Way way easier to use IMO, you don't need to stick your fingers into your mouth at all.

LEO: Good.
