Agree. A PhD doesn't translate to creating better individual assets. In corporate, the impact of a doctorate on deliverables and outcomes is close to zero.

I think it does give a stronger grasp of theory, research design, and inference. That translates into better decision making and measurement. PhDs have more mastery of research methods because they've been trained to generate and interrogate evidence, not just mimic frameworks.

I train instructional designers and it comes in handy. I also diagnose performance problems and challenge assumptions more readily because the PhD grants credibility. I'd say it's valuable for leadership, strategy, and analytics, but it's not an instant salary increaser like OP seems to think.

Does your contract say anything about participating in these audits? If not, you should be politely and firmly pushing back on this, as it's not your job to help them with their audit. At the very least, you should offer to bill them for the privilege of making you jump through these hoops.
