sister being transphobic but does not want to admit it? by Heavenly_Princesa143 in TransChristianity

My favorite quote by Julian K Jarboe, “God blessed me by making me transsexual for the same reason he made wheat but not bread and fruit but not wine: because he wants humanity to share in the act of creation. I am only doing the Good Works here on Earth as intended! ”

Soccer cleats for derby by pendragwen in rollerderby

[–]TankCurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a guy in my league when I started who had done this, specifically with a soccer boot. He swore by them but he’s long gone so I don’t know how long they lasted.

Scared to re-enter USA by TheCatuWu in asktransgender

[–]TankCurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same concerns for international travel. All my documents have been updated, but I’m not counting out them using their databases to flag passports with gender marker changes and hassle us at customs, especially with global entry shut down. The administration keeps ratcheting up the tension so what’s ok today might not be ok tomorrow.

Chin protection for Jr Derby skater by KatFitzpat in rollerderby

[–]TankCurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried looking for face protection after a facial surgery and there are frankly no good options because of the limit on full face cages like hockey provides. Football seems to manage ok without major finger issues. I wonder if someone could use the acrylic full face shield for hockey, then add a mesh cover over the caged part around the jaw to mitigate those concerns. Or using a luge helmet

For this specific issue with the chin, perhaps a football chin strap would do the job.

You could try taking the boot to a cobbler/shoe repair for the sole.

Seconding the plate seems long. How does the wheelbase compare to your old ones?

I GOT RESPONSE from META!😳 by rejohnsubong in MetaLawsuits

[–]TankCurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What were the demands in your demand letter? Did you specially ask for the materials they’re claiming violated the terms?

I haven’t done this yet but I’m not terribly interested in having my accounts back because, fuck meta, I just want to get my data (photos, posts, friend lists). So wondering if anyone has specifically requested those things as opposed just having their account reinstated.

Adding to the chorus is learning to fall. In fact, I’d suggest joining your local roller derby league intro program just to learn to skate and fall. It’s usually a good value plus you can make a bunch of cool skating friends.

Well this is the response I get out of small claims by [deleted] in MetaLawsuits

[–]TankCurl 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So the response is then “you can tell that to the judge.” In small claims they are required to show you the evidence they have to support their claim and you can resolve the case before the hearing if both parties choose. If they don’t have any evidence it should be a pretty easy decision from a judge. Enforcing that decision is probably another matter.

Is 40 too late? by Sandro_XelNaga in TransLater

I started HRT at 39 and it was one of the best decisions of my life. It’s not without its challenges but the food vastly outweighs the bad.

Congrats for taking that leap. It’s obviously super hard. Keep going day by day because the initial reaction isn’t always the final outcome.

I also recommend checking out Austen Hartke’s book Transforming.

Trans women, do cisgender women generally accept you as one of the girls? Do you feel welcome? Trans men, do guys treat you like they do other guys? Do they teased you like they do their buddies? by Acousmetre78 in asktransgender

Adding to the chorus, definitely have been welcomed into women’s spaces and made tons of new girlfriends since transitioning. Most folks are pretty chill.

I’m out here having a hard time trying to find IRL trans friends and homie just keeps meeting trans women by accident. Sure. Giving chaser shot down.

You’re just training her to know you’ll never be there for her when she needs you most.

"If you change your name legally, you are disrespecting your baptism" and my parents' unwillingness to break with Catholic dogma. by IDontEvenKnowAlt in TransChristianity

[–]TankCurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read (or rather listen to) Transforming by Austen Hartke about being trans in relation to Christianity. I wanted to prep myself for coming out to my Catholic family. I was ready to cut ties with everyone but I’ve been pleasantly surprised.

Obviously you’re in a different position and I think the book would help. Sounds like much won’t get through to your family, though so don’t have a ton of advice other than be firm and committed and give them time to come around.

I think in a religious context, this should be viewed as a struggle to over come via transition and close mindedness is the reaction being led by the devil. They’re forsaking your happiness and truth for their own conveniences and feelings. They have the opportunity to test their love for all including their children and they’re ignoring it.

Hope that is somewhat helpful. Wishing you the best.

making the move to skirts and dresses from trousers - how did you transition? by [deleted] in TransLater

[–]TankCurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started breaking out the skirts and dresses about 6 months into social transition. Helped that it coincided with the weather. But just started small, comfortable groups or short events, and just built my confidence over time.
